Who's in Charge?

It's the first thing we all want to know when we start volunteering! The Board of Directors makes sure that this organization keeps to it's mission and operates and grows in ways that are beneficial to the dogs, public, and to the rescue community at large.  No area of rescue works alone, each area is connected to one another. For example, we cannot agree to intake a dog without making certain there is an appropriate foster home, a transport, and at least a fair chance that the dog will be adopted out. So those areas affected must work together to make it happen.

Every volunteer works to accomplish a necessary piece of the whole process, and all those pieces make up a very efficient machine. Generally speaking, a volunteer is assigned to do one or two jobs only. Too many jobs will cause "burn-out"! Often when new volunteers come on board they wish to change things, do too much too soon, or step into a position of authority right away.  That cannot happen. Without a clear understanding of the way SCBR operates, and why, a new volunteer can do more harm than good ...not to mention step on a lot of toes! New volunteers are often surprised when they learn how many volunteers are actually involved with every part of rescue. We strongly encourage all new volunteers to ask questions, attend events and meetings, meet
other volunteers, and try one volunteer job at a time. It's the best way to learn.

Most of the administration are long-time volunteers who are very familiar with SCBR's policies and procedures, but opportunities continually arise for new people as the amount of time we can each devote to volunteering can change over time! Administrative jobs include all the coordinators for the various areas of rescue, website and yahoo groups work, records, correspondence, phone response, and BRAD and Event scheduling. Some areas of work are "under construction", that is, we are still developing procedures for them before they are turned over to someone else to run.

Below is a general outline of  SCBR. While some volunteers are listed by name, others such as our many foster homes are not in order to protect their privacy and safety.
