Intake

We hear of a Boxer that may need to enter rescue. This maybe a dog in a shelter, or a person who can no longer keep the dog.
Shelter dogs are very often owner surrenders to the shelter, as opposed to strays or dogs confiscated by an Animal Control Officer.

Many shelters, both inside and outside our geographical coverage area, contact us directly. We have a regular working relationship
with some shelters. Volunteers (and the public in general) will often contact us if they hear of a dog in a shelter or see a Boxer on a
shelter's PetFinder page. Our shelter liaison will contact the shelter to see if the dog is available to enter rescue. Many shelters still
do not work with rescues or prefer to place purebred dogs themselves. We do refuse dogs with bite histories and we generally do
not accept mixes, as it is much harder for us to place them. Most of our applicants have come to us for a Boxer, not a mix or other
breed. If we cannot take a dog for any reason, we tell the shelter as soon as we can so they can try to make other arrangements for
it. We  never commit to a dog unless we can arrange a transport and place it directly into foster care. We do not board or kennel
dogs.

People surrendering their dogs may contact us by phone, or via the internet through our owner surrender form. We only accept
dogs from our coverage area. We ask for all the dogs medical records, and ask that dogs be brought up to date or neutered prior
to intake if possible. We also are now requiring a mandatory intake fee. Dogs are are added to our wait list for intake. There is
normally a wait of several weeks before there is an opening and the dog can come in. Generally speaking, shelter dogs take
precedence over other dogs.
