WHAT DO I LOOK FOR ON A DOG'S WEB PAGE?
As a foster home gets to know and lives with the rescue dog, they send in updates giving potential adopters a picture of what kind of dog he is. The newest are at the top, so if you want the dog's whole story from the beginning, read from the bottom up. But, there is a summary box we call the "top box" at the top right side of each page which has the following info: STATE: Maine (State where dog is being fostered. We have foster homes in NY west to Niagara, MA, NH, CT, VT, RI and ME. As the adoptee, you must drive to the foster home and pick up your dog. If you are not willing to drive to another state, you will need to look for a dog that is fostered near you, possibly waiting until one comes in. SCBR does not transport dogs to their new homes.) AGE: 4 years old (May be actual or estimated from shelter or vet) DOB: (records that show date of birth if we get one.) WEIGHT: 65 lbs. (Usually actual weight but may be estimated upon first arrival) SEX: Male or Female... only two options NEUT/UTD: Is the dog spayed or neutered? Is the dog up to date on all shots? When a dog first comes in, more than likely they will not be neutered or up to date. While in rescue you will see these values change. All dogs over 6 months old leave spayed and neutered and up to date. COAT/COLOR: (We're talking about the predominant color) DOCKED TAIL: (If their tail was surgically altered/shortened) CROPPED EARS: (If their ears were surgically altered to stand according to the breed standard. Some boxer mixes come in with naturally pointed ears that we won't consider "cropped".) CHILDREN (under 4): If a dog is good with children under 4, we will put a yes here. If the dog is excitable or jumpy, we will probably put no as the dog will need training to be around young children. REMEMBER, no child left alone near an unsupervised dog is ever safe. CHILDREN OVER 4: Same as above, but with regard to older children. REMEMBER, no child left alone near an unsupervised dog is ever safe. SEPARATION ANXIETY: We are talking extreme cases here where the dog will break out of a crate or window and hurt themselves if left alone. Mild cases will be noted, such as those who chew or bark, but what this means is that the dog does not do well at all when left alone. OTHER DOG: Is this dog good with other dogs? If no, there will be a description as to why in the dog's description. Some dogs do well with one dog and not another, but for your safety and to make sure the dog doesn't get in a home where he's destined to fail, we will explain the situation. This kind of dog will likely only go to a family who has experience with dogs and the boxer breed. CATS: Same as above CRATE TRAINED: If a dog does not come in crate trained, by the time he or she leaves, they often will be! Watch their progress here! HOUSE TRAINED: Puppies especially may not be completely house trained, but watch how quickly they learn. LEASH TRAINED: As boxers are famous for pulling on lead, being leash trained means that they understand that they are on a leash and can walk with you although it does not mean they walk without pulling. That is what our adoptive families will need to work on once the dog is placed. OBEDIENCE TRAINED: If a dog knows most basic commands, we will put a yes here. We try to have the dogs at least master "sit" before they leave. If YES is listed here, this does not mean you are exempt from attending obedience training outside the home. MIRCOCHIPPED: If the dog is microchipped this will say "YES" and the cost to the adoptive family is $20.00 for the microchip. This fee is not optional. Your dog may be microchipped, but we don't have them checked, so a "no" answer is the best of our knowledge. ADOPTION FEE: The adoption FEE is a range specific to the dog's age. Please remember that the adoption fee is not for purchase of a dog, but rather to cover the medical cost of all of the dogs in our care. The adoption donations are as follows: Puppies under 6 months $350.00 (see explanation below *) Puppies to Dogs up to 6 years: $300 Dogs 7 years and over: $150.00 (FEE WAIVED FOR SENIOR DOG IF YOU ADOPTED FROM SCBR IN THE PAST!) * Any puppy that is adopted prior to the age of six months that is unable to be spayed or neutered before adoption will have an adoption fee of $350.00. At the time of spay or neuter, the owner will provide a copy of the spay/neuter certificate and will be reimbursed $50.00. For those dogs with medical issues that cannot be spayed or neutered prior to adoption (this is rare, but we felt we should include this just in case), the dog will be released not on an adoption contract, but on a foster contract until the spay/neuter can be performed. Once completed, an adoption contract will be completed between the new owner and SCBR.

8. PLACEMENTS: Once a dog is placed in a new home, the new family is required to send proof of registration for obedience training outside the home within the first month of adoption (classes are not expected to be completed in the 1st month). The new family signs an adoption contract which includes among other things, required follow up contact on scheduled dates: Week one, Month one, two, three, six, twelve and each adoption anniversary. Why do we do this? So we have regular contact with the family to make sure the dog is safe and happy and also to help answer questions or concerns. The adoptive family can participate in our private adoption list online which is not open to the public to have questions answered by other adoptive families who have gone through the same process.
If you have reached this point, wow! Now, after reading the above, if you can truthfully say to yourself: "I am (We are) the right person (people) to adopt a Rescued Boxer!" Congratulations! -- Please complete an application
