UPDATE 6/27/08 - Hi Everyone, Zoey here again...I kinda got the hang of this report thing now so
here I go again.
Now lets see...Have been with my forever home for five human months and Carol and David are really
taking care of me. Ryan still likes the occasional wrestle and I enjoy that. Kyle is still doing that Marine
Training stuff but Guess what? I hear he comes home in three human weeks....Wow!! what a day that
will be huh? I will have another wrestling partner. Sounds like there will be a big party too...sooooo Hot
dogs and burgers beware Ha! Ha! We went for a walk in some woods last weekend which was fun
even though it was a bit hot. David took along some water so that was good. And he always has a
pocket full of treats Ha! Ha!
I am still trying to behave myself and for the most part I am pretty good (Or so they tell me.)I am really
happy here and I know that Carol and David are happy with me also. So that's about it for now....Will
work on my next report if the humans let me write it again. (Will let you know all about that party and
how many hotdogs I can get with my Boxerish good looks.)Bye for now.
UPDATE 5/28/08 -Hi everyone, Zoey here again...Just can't get me off this computer now...
Well have been with Carol, David and the boys for errrrm let me see..It's been four months now and
loving every minute of it I can tell you. Much better now the sun gets out for me...I like to lay in the sun
for a while then I have to retreat to a nice shady patch I have in the garden. David learned something
new from Cesar Milan (That Dog Whisperer guy on TV) When I am hot, he sprays the garden hose on
my chest and belly...I love it and he knows that I don't like it on my back and head so it works out just
fine...
They bought me a small kiddie pool last week which they keep filling for me but I haven't tried it yet.
Don't like my feet wet at all.
We are all missing Kyle who is down south somewhere learning to be a Marine Corp thing. I hear he
should be home soon...Can't wait for a wrestle with him. Ryan brought me up to the beach a few days
ago where we had a cookout...Now THAT was fun...Lots of running and playing with hotdogs and
chicken thrown in. What more can a boxer ask? All in all, life here is pretty good and I know how
much I am loved by my new family. I think I will hang around here for a while.
Bye for now and will write again next month...If they let me :o)
Zoey..
UPDATE 4/29/08 - Hi all, Zoey here again...Carol said that since I made such a great job of my last
update, I can do this one as well. .Just makes sense to me to get it straight from the dogs mouth.
Lots been happening since my last report. Shortly after I submitted it, David took off to the UK (He is
from there apparently and wanted to visit with his family..)Then about two weeks later Carol followed
him for a vacation. Now correct me if I am wrong but aren't us pets supposed to go on vacation with
you human people?
So I was left with the two boys to take care of...They are easy really and often give me treats and play
wrestling games. Then as if I hadn't enough to get used to, Kyle goes and joins the Marine Corpse and
shipped out.
That left just me and Ryan to share the whole house for a few days....
It was fun and Carol and David returned just a few days later...(Been so long since I saw David I
almost didn't recognize him....)
I am told that next vacation (somewhere in the White Mountains) I can go along too. Can't wait.
So how have I been? Well I have been just fine thanks...Like I said, lots and coming and going but
generally I am really well taken care of. I still have that water problem I told you about...(If I drink too
much I throw up), but they are keeping it all under control.
I still love where I am and I know that the family are still really glad to have me around too.
Waiting now for some sunshine and some lazy days out in the garden. (I have prime spot on the swing
out there) and I am told that David and Carol love to sit and have coffee by the fish pond. Am sure they
will enjoy a little extra company this summer.
OK gotta go now...David is putting all sorts of ornaments and fountains out there and I think he needs
my help. (Well he is getting it whether he needs it or not LOL)
Till next time.
Bye for now
Zoey
UPDATE 3/24/08 - Hi everyone..Zoey Here. I thought that I might write this update myself this
time....(David went on and on last month) So Let's see, I have been with David and Carol and the boys
now for two months and I have to say that I'm having a ball. They feed me a nice healthy diet (well I'm
not putting any weight on so they must be huh?) and I get treats when I do something good (and a treat
now and again when I just smile at them in that 'Boxerish' way!)They keep me well exercised and I
even get to wrestle with the boys...(I have to take it easy with them though..Try not to tire them too
much. And of course, let them win occasionally!) Oh! and guess what? I Graduated Obedience class
last week..They gave me a certificate and took my picture and all that stuff...I have to say that at 2 1/2
years old it was pretty easy for me...I knew most of it already. There were another two there with me,
both young pups so I sort of kept them in check and showed them how it was done.. David and Carol
had a ball and I got lots of treats. Will miss Stacey and the other dogs at PetCo Thanks guys.
I am really having a good time with my new for ever family and life is a bit of a breeze right now. We
are all looking forward to a bit of sunshine and time out in the garden. (The garden swing is the only
furniture they let me sit on so that is a nice treat.)I like to get out in the car and I love weekends when
Carol is not working...We usually go somewhere special at weekends too. David and Carol have done
a few home checks for this Boxer Rescue thing and they take me with them. Nice to meet new people
and they tell me how pretty and cute I am. They tell me that I am the "Model Boxer" He! He!
I am learning new stuff all the time (Can't understand this "Roll Over" trick though) and I try to keep
well behaved for the most part . I still have my water problem where I drink too much and it makes me
sick. Not sure what all that is about but Carol and David have it in check thank goodness, I would
drink for America if they let me... .
So all in all Life here is pretty good...I am a very happy Boxer and I know that Carol David and the
boys are really happy to have me around. So that's about it for now...Will write again next month
(unless I let one of the humans write the next one He! He!) Bye for now.
Zoey
UPDATE 2/18/08 - She has been with us for a month??....Wow! where do we start? Well we were
going through the adoption process when we learned that Zoey had gone to another family. (We
know!! SCBR told us not to set our hearts on a dog before qualification....But it is difficult not to isn't
it?) ....So of course following the disappointment, we started procedures to adopt another dog. Then
out of the blue we learned that due to some problems at her new home, she had been returned to her
foster family.
Now David is not a big believer in fate, so it took some deep thinking and heavy family deliberation
before deciding to try again for Zoey (Sorry Skittles) And what a decision that turned out to be. From
the moment we saw her at Jaye's home we fell in love with this dog. We had read and reread all her
reports from her foster family and Jaye...Thank You! You were so right...Everything you said was
accurate and more. She is quite an amazing dog.
Having not had a dog for many years Carol and I were slightly anxious about taking on a 2 1/2 year old
Boxer...(Carol, having had a Boxer years ago, tells me that the breed is a little head strong).
However, this anxiety was short lived when we placed her in the car and she took to us as if she had
been with us for years. Within a few days it was difficult to imagine the house without her around. She
fitted right in there with both Carol and I as well as with Carol's boys who, even at 19 and 21, love a
good wrestle. (I think that Zoey even lets them win occasionally) :o)
From day one with us, Zoey has been, what I can only describe, as a "model dog" .. Ok! She is not
perfect and of course she has her moments, but she seems to be so easy to train. A little patience, some
guidance from "Cesar Milan" (The Dog Whisperer) and I am convinced she can learn to do anything
we want of her. Carol is right, she is a head strong dog, but she knows when we "Mean it" and when
there may JUST be a little room for some play time....(You Boxer owners knows exactly what I mean.)
She knows all her basic commands and is learning more each day. She is not overly 'crazy' when we
open her crate in the morning, she sits to have her leash put on and she does her thing outside within a
few minutes. She's a healthy, powerful 70+ pound girl but we are now using a Gentle Leader face
harness which our obedience instructor advised us to try. She didn't have any problems adjusting to it
and now walks very well by our side (still a bit of over-anxiousness when passing by other dogs!)
without straining. A marvelous invention!
Zoey barks at people she sees outside and at people/dogs she hasn't met. However, once she's been
introduced to them and is more confident that they are no longer suspicious, she's fine. She has learned
not to go up or down stairs before we ask her to and she loves to have her belly rubbed and to be
brushed.
She goes on many excursions both with David during the week and both of us on week-ends. She's
been to Lake Massabesic a couple of times for walks in the woods as well as to the beach. There are
a couple of parks in town that allow dog walking and as soon as the large puddles and slushy walkways
dry up (she doesn't like to walk through water!), we'll all be getting more exercise on a regular basis.
Her only health problem (If you can call it a problem) is that she can only have water in small quantities
or she is sick. So we give her little and often and this keeps the "problem" in check. (Does anyone else
have this problem?)
Zoey loves to be out back playing fetch and generally acting "Boxerish". She's an intelligent dog and
loves being around us, but when it's time for bed, she heads for her crate (by herself) in the corner of
the kitchen and she's down for the night. It is amazing that in just 4 short weeks, she has learned so
much from us and we have learned so much about her....
We are delighted to say that Zoey has accepted us as her forever family just as easily as we have
accepted her as our forever pet.
More Next Month!!
1/21/08 - Zoey was adopted again!
1/18/08 - Zoey has come back into foster care after a short 13 day stay with her new family. She was
taken very good care of, a vet visit, and toys, bed and food came back with her. She arrived back
here curious. After getting acclimated, she jumped and kissed, kissed and kissed some more. This girl
is Teflon ...she is terrific and we'll get her placed in her forever home shortly.
1/5/08 - Zoey was adopted!
1/3/08 - Back from our Christmas holiday. While we were away, I asked someone to come and
housesit Zoey and our other dog. I am happy to report that Zoey was a great girl. Once she got the
hang of Zoey's quirks, all went well (by quirks, I mean she gave her a huge bowl of water and Zoey
threw up). Our housesitter entertained some guests and Zoey was very friendly to all that she met. We
don't have a fenced in yard and Zoey ran out the front door on her and had to chase her around the
yard because Zoey thinks its fun. Zoey is a lovebug though. My daughter tells her everyday, "You are
just adorable!"
12/19/07 - Zoey has remained a fabulous temporary addition to our house. She has definitely settled
into a routine here. All the dogs are getting along better and smooching and playing with one another.
She has graduated to sleeping on our bed. She sleeps great and wakes up wanting to kiss, kiss, kiss
and play. She likes to go under the blankets and wrestle with you. Also, we've limited the amount of
water she can consume - she was drinking so much and so fast that she was throwing up - it's under
control now with this regimen. She's hopped in a few more showers with different family members. She
hops in to visit and then jumps out. She is a smart girl, knows some basic commands - sit, come, stay,
and is loaded with personality. She has been a very good houseguest and is so loved. This is your
forever dog looking for her forever home. She is going to return so much love back to the family that
gets her that you will be most fortunate.
12/11/07 - We truly love this girl. She makes us laugh so often, I can't believe it. The other morning, I
was taking a shower, and just like kids, the boxers have to walk in and see what is going on. Well,
Zoey is sticking her large head into the shower curtain and suddenly I feel something against the back of
my legs and Zoey has jumped into the shower with me! Laughing so hard, I scream and everyone
comes running to see her latest feat. I have to tell you, other than the spats she has had with my boxers,
she has been a dream. She arrived with a great appetite, crate trained, crying when she wanted to go
out, and accepting of all the people she meets. She doesn't know her own strength though - when she
plays, she plays hard and rough (she is still very young). She might be a little too rough for very young
kids - my youngest is 8 and Zoey is good for her. She pulls on her leash and she is very strong. After
we had the ice storm, my yard was a sheet of ice and I had her on the leash when she went to run for
the house and my feet went out from under me and I was on my @#*%! I could go on and on about
her, she's a gem.
12/5/07 - Zoey has been with us now 3 days. She is near perfect. She cries when she wants to go out
and has only had one accident in the house - my fault - she had wanted to go out but I was too slow
putting on my boots and she peed on the floor. She is also a great watchdog, she's protective both
inside and outside of the house and barks at any noise she hears. Despite her size, I think she is a little
bit of a scaredy-dog. She loves children. Today, she met my 5 year old nephew and kissed him all
over his face - the more he giggled, the more she kissed. LOL. She is crate trained and loves her crate.
I tried to let her sleep on our bed last night but she just couldn't get herself comfortable so I got up and
put her in her crate and she didn't make a sound until morning. She doesn't counter surf and is not
destructive
I think Zoey will best be suited as an only dog in a house. It had been recommended to feed her
separately from my other dogs - which I did. Her bowl was in another room and I was at the dog food
bag to feed the others and she came out and fought with Duke. A few moments ago, there was just
another fight. Zoey is a dog that likes companionship of people, not necessarily of dogs. She does get
along with my dogs, but these blips just make me think she is better being "the big cheese."
Zoey here. I am so happy living with this family. I love the girls and like to visit them in their rooms and
kiss them while they are sleeping. I like the dogs, but sometimes we get our wires crossed and fight. I
actually like to play with Duke and we spend lots of time muzzling each other and I am always gentle to
the old boxer. I would so like to find my own family for Christmas. Slap a big, red bow on me and I
am the perfect present.
12/2/07 - Zoey has arrived. She is an owner surrender back to rescue almost a year later as her last
owner's living situation changed and she could not keep her any longer. What a lovebug she is! She
lavishes kisses on you and wags her stub tail and bottom at warp speed.. I'll tell you now that she
LOVES kids and can't seem to get enough of my girls. She is so sweet, friendly, energetic and playful -
she seems to be fitting right in with my boxers. She has not displayed any aggression toward my dogs.
She does jump up to greet people so we will be working on that with her. Also, she wants to jump on
furniture - we are giving her a firm "NO" and will also be trying to break this habit.
As for her looks, she is stunning - a BIG, stunning girl. Zoey has a dark mask with black eyes and the
cutest ridges on her nose. I don't have a scale so I am guessing her weight to be in the low 70's. This
girl will not be around long - you will fall in love with her! I'll update when I have a chance to observe
her more. Updated pictures following in the next day or two.
12-2006 - Zoey was adopted!
12/18/06 - Just wanted to let everyone know that Zoey continues to do well. She is such a sweet dog
that just loves people. We have encountered that she does not like our senior female dog at all, so we
are keeping them separated. She has no problem with our male dog they play just fine with each other,
she tends to want to make sure she is the boss, but nothing like she is with our senior, so a house with a
male dog or a only dog is probably what she is looking for. All in all she is a great dog that would love
a new home for Christmas. She has shown no issues that she had prior with the urinary tract problems
and she is completely house broken....take this gem home for the holidays!!!!!!
12/1/06 - I just wanted to let everyone know that i have settled in just fine at my foster home, but my
foster mom keeps telling me that i will get to go to my forever home soon enough. She also tells me i
do just fine with the kids, sometimes she tells me i get too excited but i never knock them over or hurt
them. I have meet a few dogs and i just want to play with them all. Well i have to get back to my
bone, oh ya i get one of those at night and i just love them! I am a good girl though i never chew
anything that i am not suppose to and i don't have any accidents in the house. I will let you know how i
am doing again soon!
11/27/06 - Zoey had a very good thanksgiving, she was a very well behaved girl while company was
here. She did fine with a large group of people in the house, did not make her nervous at all. She still
tends to bark at men that talk to her when they walk into a room, but is doing better with it. If the men
just ignore her she is fine, but we are still working on it. She has enjoyed playing in the yard the past
couple of days. She has adjusted very well! She pulls a little on a leash, but if you tell her easy she
takes it easy. She knows the basic commands (sit, down, stay and come) and does very well with
them. She is very much a people person, she has to be where ever you are. (She has to come in the
bathroom with me when i Shower) or she sits outside the door and whimpers....(which i have to say is
so cute) she is just a great girl. She has had no accidents since the second day here, she will let you
know when she needs to go out. Well i could keep going on and on she is just a great dog. If you are
looking for a dog that will be very much a part of your family's everyday routine Zoey could be the dog
for you!!!!!
11/24/06 - Zoey's prior home said she had frequent urinary tract infections and was on medicine each
time to clear them up. They recently took her to the vets again for x-rays and more testing to see if she
had stones. They found a stricture (narrowing of the passageway) and the vet dilated her and said it
needs to be redone in a month. Her new home needs to be aware of this & to keep up with their vet
on it.
11/21/06 - I just dont know where to start, she is such an excellant dog. I have been sick, (had to have
3 wisdom teeth pulled) and she has been right by my side the entire time. She will make someone and
excellant companion. She just loves to be with people. I was unsure at first how she would do with my
kids, becasue she had never been around kids, let alone litttle ones. She is excellant with them, i make
sure i am always there to watch just in case, but she just loves to wake my daughter up in the morning
with kisses. She is very active, but settles right down. She listens great, you tell her no once and that is
all that is needed. She has loved running out in the fence, but i am hoping to be feeling better today to
get her out and see how she does on a leash. If you are looking for a dog that will follow you
everywhere and love you with boxer kisses and wiggles she could be the dog for you, she has a great
personality. Still a little timid of men but as
long as they just let her go to them she does fine. I just cant say enough good about this little love bug !
Will update again later.
11/19/06 - Zoey has arrived. She is doing great, she is a beautiful active girl, but she settled right down
for the two hour car ride home. She so far has loved running in the fenced in yard. She was very timid
of the kids at first but already has warmed up to them and has been plaing very well with them. Men
she seems a bit timid of but i am sure she will warm up just fine. We will update again when she has a
chance to settle in and we get to know her.
