7/23/08 - We finally had all the paperwork come through and Willa is most definitely upd on shots. She saw
Dr. Matt yesterday for a quick check-up and he was quite surprised at the very long scar on her abdomen.
He did say that someone spent quite a bit of money for either a repair or a mastectomy.
Most likely a mastectomy as she only has 3 nipples on the other side. She also has a fairly pronounced
shorter scar, but he stopped short of saying she was spayed. He figures time will tell, but she probably is. I
have to tell you, this young lady is a very quick study. She conquered the dog door in about 12 hours from
the time she arrived! She does know her hand signals, but sometimes will just plain turn away. If she cannot
see you they don't count?! Willa does NOT jump on people! She has very good manners. She will jump up
if invited. She is well crate trained, but will remind you to open the door if you take too long. After supper
one night I left her a bit longer than I should have and she fussed! I would too! She seems to be fine around
the cats, loves all the other dogs, is great with everyone she meets and is just a nice all around young lady.
She does have a small amount of separation anxiety: if she cannot see you, she searches! I don't know how
she would be if left uncrated, but suspect she would be fine. She did try the first couple of nights to join me
in bed, but now just picks out a dog bed in the bedroom.Willa likes to sit and watch out the window. When
she sees either a squirrel or Mourning Dove around the bird feeder, she is out through the dog-door like a
shot! She will sit at the base of a tree watching a squirrel! She likes to ride, is pretty good on leash and will
watch you to see what you want her to do. She also has very soft fur. She is gaining some needed weight
and looks very good, now. When she first came she was a tad thin. Running at large and shelters will have
that effect. I think this girl would fit in very nicely in just about any home that has another dog to play with.
7/12/08 - There is a new girl in town! She has come to us without a name, so because the Boxer can claim
German ancestry, I found a Germanic name for her: Willa.Willa is probably about 2 years old and is most
definitely deaf. Like Rose she has one blue eye and one brown. She does have a brown spot on her face.
She is a tall girl and was found as a stray. I am not yet sure if she know any hand signals, but will keep
checking, etc. She is an excellent playmate for Sam as she can keep up with that long legged gentleman. The
had a grand time running the yard. I will post more as I get better acquainted with her.
