TYSON
5/26/08 - Tyson continues to be a happy addition to our household.  I marvel at how well adjusted he is.  And, how he and Abby are so funny sometimes.  They have a new gig -- we feed them separately, and usually Abby is done before Tyson.  She waits at the top of the stairs until he has finished and then they both swap areas to lick each other's bowls.  We would love to know what goes on in their minds -- because neither one of them leaves a crumb!

Tyson is ready for his forever home.  We talk about another fur friend and a lot of exercise and play for him because his energy level is so puppy.  He does try to jump on people when they are new to him, and that is something we work on each and every day.

I know I repeat some things, but this boy needs lots and lots of exercise.  Even when he is done playing with the neighbors dogs, he will sometimes just keep going until he collapses from tired.

But when this boy is done for the day, and I'm home after a hard day's work (sometimes it has to be about me!), he and I sit together on the couch, and he is so close it is funny to try to get up.  He just adores being close to someone who can love him back.

He's a great dog, and if you can devote time, energy, and give lots of love you will have one wondeful pooch.

Here's an updated picture of he and Abby playing their favorite tug of war game.

Hello Everyone:  I am TYSON and much has been written about me.  Now I would like to give you the real skinny.    I have been in my foster home for about two weeks, and although I am being treated very well, they said I would get a permanent home, and I am really looking forward to that.  I am a great dog with lots of great qualities.  I am young so I need lots of exercise, and if you have another four-legged pooch in your household that likes to play, or you have time to play and give me long walks, I am absolutely the dog for you.

My foster family has had me around children younger than 4, but I still get so excited to see them, even I am concerned I will forget myself and by mistake knock them over.  But, I have had the opportunity to play with older children and do real well with them especially when we are playing. I am now crate trained – not a bad thing as I have lots of toys to entertain me.  I do pretty well on a leash, and getting better all the time.  I hate to admit it, but I do need some obedience training (especially when it comes to my exuberance!).  It comes from my interest in meeting you or a fur friend, wanting to give those Boxer kisses, and get some loving in return.   Did I tell you that I have two wonderful assets that everyone comments on – I come when I am called and I understand the word “no.”

Now, if you, or someone you know, want a loving, dedicated, and all around wonderful Boxer, please contact Second Chance Boxer Rescue as soon as possible.  I’m ready to go to my forever home!

Tyson is having a great time playing with anyone and everyone he can.   We continue to wish we could have a friend photograph us in the middle of the night to capture all of our sleeping habits -- it is amazing how quickly our four-legged friends have learned the positions -- Abby at the shoulders and head and Tyson with his nose in Abby's face pushed up against Dick and I.

And, if you can't sleep, listening to the two of them snore will lull you into a happy night of dreans!

We have figured out now to deal with company exuberance.  Tyson and Abby both think it is their job to greet and meet anyone who comes to the door with great gusto.  When we had company Saturday night, we put them both downstairs gated so when our neighbors came in, there was was no vying for attention.

One they were in the house and settled, we let both of them up, and I was happy that there was no over the top zealousness.  They came over sniffed and went about their own business.

I believe that Tyson should be in a home with older children so that everyone can enjoy this wonderful animal.  He will also be great with another dog as he loves to play tug-of-war, race to catch the ball, or just lay out on the deck in the sun.

He is truly a noble animal who will give you more pleasure to have in your home than you can imagine.

Here are two updated photos.

Tyson has settled in nicely with Dick and I and Abby, and will make someone an absolutely wonderful pet.  I took him to Pet Smart this morning for socialization, and he was great.  Wanted to play with everyone -- two and four legs.  While he is here, we will continue to work on letting him meet more people to see if we can get him to be a little calmer when he does.

Tyson is back to his old self after being neutered yesterday and brought up to date on all of his shots.  He is now ready for his forever home.   If you are thinking of adopting, please get  your application in as this boy won't be around long.

He is a loving boy who, by the way, is still following the back end of our female around the house and yard.  He meets and greets everyone with the same calm manner.  He just wants to get close for a few pets, and if there is a dog at the end of a leash, he just wants to play.

We have now made room for one more in our bed, and fortunately, he takes the bottom and our Abby gets the top.  You just learn to cope with what spot belongs to the humans.  I can't say enough good things about this charming fellow!

We picked up Tyson from Wendy this past Sunday.  WOW was he exuberant.  He broke out of his dollar store leash but when Dick called him he went to him immediately.  We had to stop a couple of times on the way home to untangle him but once he settled down, he rode well in the car.

He is very handsome and does not appear to have a bad bone in his body.  He likes everyone – two and four-legged alike and has absolutely no aggressive behavior.  He has met and played with a neighbor’s Boxer as well as our girl, Abby.  Nothing seems to bother this boy.  When he meets a new dog, he immediately lays down, puts his legs up in the air, and starts kissing them.

Have you ever been hit with a Boxer tail before – what an experience…..he is always happy so it is always in motion – just like him (LOL!)

I initially thought that he had absolutely no training – but just having him with us two short days has proven me wrong.  Here are the positives:  he walks fine on the leash (no pulling – not even when he sees squirrels, cats, dogs or rabbits), understands the word “no”, comes when you call him, sits, goes into down position and does not appear to be destructive in the yard or house.

There are two things we are working on – his jumping on people and not liking the crate.  Tyson is so exuberant when meeting new people, he jumps on them to try to kiss them.  We are using the word “off” and when he jumps on us, we do a GENTLE knee along with the word.

We tried crating him Sunday night and about 1:00 a.m. I gave up and went downstairs and slept on the couch with him.  He does go into and out of the crate with no problem, and we are using it to crate him when we are not home.  No one in the neighborhood has complained so I guess he doesn’t bark and cry when he knows we are not home.

It’s noon on 4/22, and I just heard from the vet.  Poor Tyson only had one testicle descended so his surgery will be more extensive.  He’ll get lots of love and attention when he gets home as he will probably be somewhat uncomfortable for a day or two.

If  you have lots of love in your heart, which he will return many times over, and have the patience to work with him, you will have a friend for life.  You won’t be sorry!
