TYSON
UPDATE 2/12/08 - How your Boxer is adjusting in your home with family and other pets?
This question is something we were nervous about and let me tell you - Tyson is loved all over, he looks
like he never was anywhere else. He is fully adjusted and was after a day! He is such a love, he is in
love with our female boxer and can not get enough from our family and friends....we feel so lucky!
Vacations or trips that you have taken with your Boxer?
We haven't been anywhere just yet - but we do take both boxers on rides (can't say that out loud!!)
whether we are going to get a coffee so they can get a munchkin or we are just going to a family
members house they are in tow with us and love every minute of it! Well behaved in the car!
Your Boxer's health - Tyson is doing very well - he has gained at least 10lbs since he has been with us.
He has a check up appt in 2 wks and the vet will let us know how we should continue his 3 pills that he
is on. We don't want to end his medicine as we are nervous he will be ill again, his stools are great
(solid) and he is putting on weight so we are not too sure about changing that. If the meds work why
change - but we are not the doctors!
Obedience training -- how has it helped? We are on our 3rd week tomorrow and it is working out
great. Ty knows his basic commands but likes to talk back to us - he needs to calm down a bit (as we
all know not possible sometimes) he is catching on! We are doing clicker training with treats then it
becomes just your hand movements in a few weeks...we are looking forward to his attention!
Fun stories! We love these! - funny stories is the fact that i use to have one follow me everywhere, now
i am almost falling over them everywhere i go they are right at moms side - try and get them off of our
bed when it is time to go to bed as there is no room for 2 and forget it they come running right up to
bed and have to have something of them touching me!! Little babies, i couldnt change it for anything -
just keep trying to move them to the end of the bed and make sure they don't move! All night long
process!! Too cute!! I should keep a camera near my bed!
We can't thank SCBR enough for all they do for all the pups!! Thank you and talk with you next month!

UPDATE 1/18/08 - Hi Everyone~
As you can see in the pictures he has sure been welcomed!! Tessie our female boxer just can't get
enough of him! They both haven't stopped since we brought Tyson home on Saturday.
We can not thank Dot or the rescue league for doing all that everyone did for Ty. Looking at his first
pictures compared today is just one amazing story.
He has come along way and no one have given up and no one will! His "cocktail" meds have been
created and he is good to go and ready every second to play! What else does a boxer want to do?
We thought when we got another boxer we would not have them in our bed, as Tessie was in our bed
every night, but 2 boxes and 2 adults in a Queen size bed won't cut it. Well what do you know both are
in bed with us every night!! I wouldn't be able to sleep if i didn't have them in bed with me!! I might
wake up cramped but look at the bed and smile as they cuddle together!
I can't wait to hear everyone's stories, tips, ideas, etc. Thank you again and again!! We will send many
more pics of Ty and Tessie for sure!!

1/12/08 - Tyson has been adopted!

12/21/07 - I cannot take much credit for the improvement in his heath. Tyson is doing well, but without
all the combined, prescribed drugs, in concert with frequent feedings, etc. he would still be a very sick
pup. Dr. Matt held the keys to his recovery. All I did was clean up after him and see to it that he got his
meds when he was supposed to.

Ty after a month of meds and good food! Dr. Matt even asked "what dog is that" when I took him in to
weigh him this morning! He was really surprised to see that he had gained so much weight and looked
so good. He will have another 2 weeks of meds and then will need to be neutered. He is such a nice
dog!

Ty doesn't care who helped him as long as he gets to play, play and play some more! He is all puppy
and it really shows.

12/6/07 - Ty is now up to 52 lbs!  He is beginning to look really great.  Still very skinny, but gaining
muscle.
I picked up another bag of ID and more meds today.  He still has traces of blood in his stool, but not
the great red blotches he had originally.  He is no longer crated because of  uncontrollable diarrhea.  His
stools are still very soft but at least now have some shape.  He is a pretty good guy most of the time,
and being still a puppy, he just wants to play!

12/2/07 - I know it is only "once", but Tyson had a fairly solid and "lumpy" bowel movement this
morning!!!!!!!!! He has gone a whole week now without any explosive diarrhea. He still has over a
week to go on meds, so we shall see. Also, I did not see any blood this morning. I don't know about
yesterday, etc. as I don't always go out to "inspect". I shall watch him a little closer today and see. He
has been having the "run of the family room" at night and is not crated. He also sleeps quietly and
doesn't create any alarms at night.
He is very well behaved, does surf a bit, but isn't a destroyer/chewer. Nice in such a young dog.

12/1/07 - I have removed the "choke chain" collar and is wearing a different one for the time being. I
had all I could do to get it off of him, and it will never go back on! It will go to the metal pile at the
landfill! He has been sleeping in a recliner at night, with a big "puffy" comforter all around him. He really
likes it. Last night, another night without diarrhea!  He does seem to be coming along.

11/25/07 - Tyson has had 2 nights with a "clean" crate! I am beginning to think that we might be getting
his problem under control. He is having semi-formed, but still fairly loose stools. He is really a funny
pup. When he first got here he spent a lot of time in the crate as he just had terribly uncontrolled
diarrhea. After awhile, when things settled down a bit, he had more freedom. He apparently didn't
know anything about stairs. Going up was ok, but going down he lost control of his long legs and almost
fell! When he tried it again, the same result. It took several tries, but now graceless Ty can navigate
stairs without almost falling! He really had
to slow down.He does know some commands: sit, down, come, stay and wait. He is ok on leash, but
needs work. As far as cats are concerned, I am still evaluating. He would love to chase, but I am
discouraging that and hoping that he will settle down and be accepting of their presence. He loves other
dogs and we have had only one little spat between him and Sam. Afterward they snuggled on the love
seat!

11/18/07 - Ty is still very, very loose and when he strains, there are still lots of blood drops! Today he
finally did have a very mushy, but not all water, movement. They are far and few between. He loves to
play and has been trying to get Sam to play with him. He runs around the yard and acts like the puppy
he really is. Sam is still a bit leery and has yet to play with him, but his tail is wagging. They have had
about 2 hours together this afternoon, totally supervised! I think Ty is gaining a bit of weight. It isn't all
going straight through him and he has lots of energy now, as well as desire to play. He is pretty smart
and is learning that the dog door is convenient.I really want to see less mushy bowel movements! I am
getting very adept at taking his crate apart and putting it in the tub for cleaning. I would prefer less crate
cleaning and I am sure Ty would prefer fewer
trips outside.

Ty had a good stretch and roll on the carpet after supper. He really enjoyed being able to stretch out.
Then he put the front half in my lap, over the arm of the recliner. He is one very long and tall dog! He
could easily put his face right on the dining table if he wanted to. He met one of the cats this evening and
I think she scared him just about half to death! He jumped back about 3 feet. He is really all puppy and
it shows. He saw his reflection in one of the windows tonight and started the alarm: they all ran outside
to see what was there!! LOL!He is really pretty cute, but he seems to startle easily. Just thought I
would share so that you could laugh too.

11/15/07 - Ty is beginning to show some real life. He is getting playful in the yard, although he is always
out alone with me. He is enjoying bouncing around. Today he really tanked up at the water pail, which
will soon be retired until spring. Can't drink ice! This morning his first bowel movement of the day
showed "some" form. Still very mushy, but it takes a bit of time to get some of these pups straightened
out. He is still showing some blood droplets when he strains. He is eating like a champ! I crush his
Flagyl and open the capsules and
mix them in his food. He wolfs everything down. He is getting 3 good meals a day now, and a couple of
Milkbones at bedtime. Ty loves his freedom and is starting to balk a bit more about going into the crate.
I don't blame him! It is very damp and foggy this morning, but warm. Ty was outside with me for at
least 45 minutes and didn't really want to come back in. He is still wearing the fleece jacket, 24/7.
People forget that the thermostat is usually somewhere at eye-level, but the temperature on the floor can
be many degrees lower. Most crates of boxer size sit on the floor. Enough from the Log Cabin!

11/12/07 - Dr. Matt reviewed all the medical records that I took in with me. There were many tests,
etc. He looked him all over, and we have 3 different prescriptions: Cipro(250 m), Flagyl(500 mg) and
Amoxicillin(250 mg)! All taken twice a day and at the same time.He said to continue with the frequent
mini-meals. Ty seems to be feeling a bit better and is showing some interest in his surroundings. He has
even explored part of the yard, came at a trot when called and wagged his nub! When he first came, he
acted as if he could just about stand and was more than willing to get in where it was warm and lay
down in the crate! Yogurt and grain free kibble mixed together. He also is having a bit of pumpkin and
vet diet canned food all mixed together and warmed in the microwave and some kibble added at
serving time. "Yum" seems to be his attitude and he is eating! The first night he wouldn't drink, let alone
eat!  His coat feels very nice and soft. Even Dr. Matt thought so and we wondered why it felt so good
with him so sick. Oh well.

11/10/07 - Tyson arrived at the Log Cabin last night as a very sick boy and probably scared, as well.
He would not eat and being sick with bloody diarrhea cannot be the best way to feel. He wouldn't even
take a lick of water. This morning, after going outside with a jacket on, he came in to a clean bed and a
very small meal of kibble and low fat yogurt mixed together. He is wearing the jacket full time to help
keep his poor skinny body warm. Two hours later I again gave the same meal: a small handful of kibble
with yogurt mixed in. He ate! He has since had his third tiny meal and has taken a bit of water. I will
keep trying to get him to eat just small meals every few hours. He is so very thin it makes you wonder if
his scrawny body can be held up by his very thin legs! He is a very sad sight! He would love to lay on
the couch, but with his diarrhea being so
uncontrollable, I cannot allow it. Right now he may weigh 45 lbs, but should be up around 60/65 for his
height and length. Ty has a long way to go before he will be able to be adopted.

MORE BACKGROUND INFO ON TYSON:  Tyson was bought at a pet store and was well
loved by his family.  He was sick since they got him and he had continual diarrhea with blood and was
unable to gain weight.  His family had him to the vet several times a month since they got him and had
many, many tests done and medicines tried and nothing made Tyson get better.  They finally made the
decision to have the vet put him to sleep as they could just not do anymore.  The vet called us and
Tyson was surrendered to us to see if we could do anything more for him and get him better.
