2/28/08 - Stamper has come along way! He doesn't even growl at the pizza man anymore. I have had
numerous friends both male and female walk in the house. He just likes to sniff them first then he is good
to go. If he is put outside before they come in its like they were there all along. Stamper loves to follow
me around the house and wants lots of attention all the time. He is an 82 pound dog who thinks he is a
lap dog! Stamper is a very lovable dog and would like a family who has a leader in it doesn't matter if
there are kids or others who are not leaders just as long as there is one. I have a friend who is staying
with me who is affraid of dogs and she had no problem with him. He needs to know you set the rules
and not him.
1/9/08 - Stamper is back, and he's doing very well. He is such a sweet dog, and much better behaved
in the house than I remember him being! Stamper can now be left home without being in his crate and
he doesn't chew up things he shouldn't, or get into the trash like he used to! Stamper also knows many
more commands, and listens much better than I remember, his previous owners taught him a lot! He is
however, house protective like the previous owner mentioned. He is an angel with anyone who is in the
house, we have plenty of friends that visit, and as long as he is outside when we let them in, he walks up
to them and greets them perfectly fine when he is let in. If he's inside when someone new comes in, he
does growl and will snip at them if we don't hold him until he sees the new person is no threat. We
have begun behavior modification training with him (we leave a bag of bones outside for the "new
person" to bring in with them, when Stamper sits on command quietly-no growling, the stranger will give
it to him) so he learns that strangers aren't bad. Its kind of a double edge sword though, we love that
he's protective, however we know it's not fair for him to go to a new house and be put in a situation to
bite someone. We will keep you updated on his progress, he's such a smart dog, it shouldn't take him
long!
12/29/07 - Stamper is being surrendered to rescue to find another home after 3 months with his last
family. Unfortunately during the crazy busy time of the holiday gatherings last week, Stamper bit the
hand of a "stranger" that walked into their home un-announced through their garage door. It was a
relative of the family that Stamper had never met and they did not think quickly enough to take
precautions. Here is more info from his family about Stamper and the situation that happened:
"Stamper is not a concern to me around my family that he has lived with over past 3 months or
even the kids, though I am always cautious with them with playing with him as we have been
training him not to play with his mouth. (around our ankles and pulling on gloves and so forth) I
know that Stamper bit over him protecting his family. My father in -law came in the house
through our garage door and not the back door where I am usually the one to "let people in".
He also came in by himself and walked right up to Stamper and me and bent down and went to
pat stamper. Then Stamper jumped up on top of him and bit his hand, I had to pull him off of my
father in law, my father in law ripped his hand out of stampers mouth, thus creating a worse bite.
I know it was not Stampers fault. I have decided though for my kids freinds sake and for
Stampers sake to return him to SCBR. I just don't feel that I have the right set up to let Stamper
succeed. With 3 young children I cannot commit to the amount of time I think it is going to take
but more importantly I cannot control my home enviornment to ensure that my daughter or son
aren't going to come bounding into the house with someone new that Stamper might feel
threatened by. I would not want to be responsible in again setting him up to bite someone and
put himself at risk as well as another person. I feel like I have failed Stamper and regret that he
is going to be uprouted again but having failed I cannot continue to fail him. My husband does
not understand why I am so upset since he is not the one that has bonded with Stamper. Stamper
has been my companion and we have enjoyed our time together. I hope someone else can be a
better adoptive parent
than me, i'm sure he will come around."
UPDATE 11/26/07 - Stamper is great! He is a little funny at times as he can be a big kluts! I think he
doesn't realize his size and he trips over his own two feet sometimes. He also tends to plow us down
when he runs by us! He absolutely loves his walks in the woods, though I have taken a break from the
woods until the ticks hibernate, they are bad this year! My 2 year old son totally loves Stamper as it's
the first one he greats in the morning. They are getting quite the relationship going, I think they have an
agreement, Stamper puts up with his constant attention and my son feeds him half his meal!
UPDATE 10/22/07 - There are not enough good words to say about Stamper!!!! He is a wonderful
dog and we are enjoying him so much! I wish I didn't join the gym the month before I adopted him
because I find myself not going! How could I possibly run on a tread mill when I have sweet Stamper to
run with!!! My husband is thrilled that he doesn't have to coax me out of bed anymore because
Stamper and I start our morning out at 6:30 and we are really in love with eachother! The kids totally
love Stamper too! I've been spending this last month keeping my little one from loving him tooooo
much!!! Obedience training is going well! It is ME who is being trained as it's been 11 years since I did
obedience training and I'm glad it is done in a more friendly no hands on way, no more pulling at a
leash, but actually having the dog do what you say hands off! And I am being trained on how to just
say it once! Something I think will come in handy with the kids!!!! lol Stamper definately does not like
the crate but we are past the point of pushing his but into it!!!! Our dog trainer is awesome and has
taugh ME alot!!! We are going to continue to use the crate to keep Stamper out of trouble as he is my
shadow and does not like it when I leave... but I'm usually only out of the house no more than an hour
or two. I don't know if Stamper ever saw a lake before but oh how funny he was the other day when I
threw a stick into the lake behind my house to see if he would fetch it... he was like, um what is this and
why do you want me to go into it???? After some time he start to chase the little waves and oh how
cute he was!!! Thank you to everyone involve that brought us together , he is my little angel..... And
come to find out the Vet that I always used was the Vet that took him in when he was a stray!!!!! It
was definately meant to be that Stamper joined our family!
9/22/07 - Stamper has been adotped!
9/4/07 - Stamper is doing very well! He loves to play and wrestle. Does not growl or get aggressive.
He knows when a treat is coming and sits pretty and will throw a paw in the air in anticpation of
pleasing who ever is giving the treat. Stamper is coming along in his training very quickly! He has
learned stop and sit which he does on every corner when we go for walks. He also has learned lay
down. Sometimes he will laydown if I say sit if it has been a long walk or he has spent some time in the
park running and playing. He loves to be cuddled and for a big dog he likes to think he is a lap dog.
Stamper lets me know when stangers are near the house and quickly quiets down once I tell him its ok.
He mainly does that if there is a knock on the door or if I am not in the room he is in. There are not
enough good things I could say about stamper. He adjust well and is learning fast! I would keep him if
my wife would let me! Anyone who adopts him would be lucky!
8/26/07 - Stamper was a local stray boxer mix that no one claimed. Stamper adapts very well to his
surrounding. He loves car rides and walks. He has showed no signs of aggression and I have played
with his food, ears mouth/teeth. He loves to be around people and my other animals (cat and dog). He
is a great boy!
