SQUIRT => Rocky
(Boxer/Mastiff? Mix)
NOTE ** Because I am still a baby, I will only be placed in a home where someone is home often, such as
retired, work at home, work opposite shifts, stay at home parents, etc.

UPDATE 1/8/09 - It's been three months now and not much has changed.  Rocky is still all puppy and
continuing to prove it.  Slippers that were a christmas gift are destroyed, some toys from Santa are
unrecognizable and the christmas tree barely made it through.  But we have our good times, too, and are
working on teaching him wrong from right.  He still makes us laugh out loud when he plays in the snow and
the kids love running back and forth in the house letting him chase them.  He doesn't knock the two year old
down as often and the six year old is learning how to keep his hands out of Rocky's mouth.  (He gets nippy
when he plays)  The cat still hates him but she hates just about everything that moves.  so to sum up, not
much has changed  but we're hoping it will soon.

UPDATE 12/7/08 - Well, it's been two months and things are getting better.  Rocky has had fewer
accidents in the house and is now starting to scratch the back door to go out.  He is having so much fun
running crazy in the backyard chasing a beat up milk carton around.  The chewing inside is still a small
problem but he's getting better with that, too.  He doesn't seem to know how to act around company so he
pees on the floor.  That's something we'll have to keep working on.
Rocky doesn't sleep in the crate at bedtime anymore, he sleeps with me and "daddy" in our bed, which he
LOVES!!!  He did eat a hole in my comforter, though.  And he loves eating my sons pull-ups.  We've
resorted to a garbage can in the closet for that.  But all of these things are just puppy behavior and I know
he'll get better.
He is now six months old and ready to be fixed.  We've gotten the estimate from the vet and will make the
appointment this week.  He's visited the vet already and doesn't seem to mind.  He vomited a few days ago
with worms in it so we immediately took him in and got meds for roundworms.  Seems he also enjoys the
cat litter box and sneaks up there when I'm not looking.  I'm sure a covered box in a harder to reach area
will stop that.
Overall, he is adjusting well and we are adjusting to having a puppy in the house.  My daughter (who,
standing, reaches his nose) loves to give him kisses and hugs.  He really loves the attention and has knocked
her on her behind with a big, wet kiss from time to time, which only makes her giggle more.  My son has yet
to learn that teasing the dog gets you licked and your food stolen out of your hand.  He'll catch on soon
enough though.  We really enjoy having him around and he is a nice warm body keeping me company while
I've been sick lately.  He's got cuddling down pat!

UPDATE 11/6/08 - Squirt (now Rocky) is doing very well with us.  He had an adjustment period that took
longer than expected but he seems to be learning the routine.  He had a very hard time figuring out that the
house was not the place to do his business but we're doing better.  No accidents yesturday and only one
today so far.  We've gone four days without a messy cage in the morning.  Hopefully he'll stay on track and
we can get him sleeping with us soon.  Until we are accident free overnight and he can let us know he needs
to go outside, he'll have to be crated at night.
He is very playful and the kids love him!!  He is so good with them and only knocks the two year old down
right after he comes in from the backyard, but only because he's worked up.  Otherwise he is as gental as a
five month old puppy can be.  We just love the energy he brings to the house.
We bought him some chew toys which he has since ripped the stuffing out of completely and had to throw
away.  Our next trip to the pet store will be for some rubber toys he can't rip apart so easily, but he
understands pretty well that he has his own toys and not to chew our things.  Once in a while I'll find him
with something but he gives it up easily and goes to find his own toys.
We have gotten a lot of laughs from him and really have fun running and jumping and playing with him.  I
think I laughed the hardest though when he was asleep on the couch and fell off when he stretched out.  He
looked very surprised and confused as if he was asking me, "What just happened?  Wasn't I up there with
you?"  He loves to cuddle on the couch with us and steal our seat when we get up for a drink or something.
We come back to find him curled in our spot looking up at us with his adorable brown eyes.  He melts my
heart when he does that.  But most of the time he follows us everywhere.  He is like my shadow.  He'll go
wherever I go happily and willingly.  He especially loves when it's time to go get my son from the bus stop
because he knows that's time for a walk.  He knows where to find the leash and what door to go to that will
take him out to the bus stop.  He's so smart.
Well, that's about it for now.  We're still all learning about each other and figuring out how to happily coexist
in our house, but we're having a good time and looking forward to many years of fun and play.  Another
update will come next month.

10/5/08 - Squirt has been adopted!

8/12/08 - Squirt went on his first public outing today and couldn't get enough of the people!  He wanted to
interact and meet everyone he could.  He was a bit unsure of the leash and how to walk with it but I am sure
with practice he will do just fine.  I dropped the leash and he followed me everywhere that I went and
wouldn't let me out of his sight.  He seems like a very "spunky" little guy looking for adventure.  After his
adventures though he looks for a lap to snuggle up in and sleep in.  He is very playful with my other dogs
and doesn't seem to be afraid of anything but the steps!  He will sit and cry until you help him up or down --
CHICKEN!  We are working on the house training bit.  He is being crate trained but will whimper for a few
minutes because he rather be with you.  If you are looking for someone to share adventures and then crash
with you afterwards, then Squirt is the dog for you!  Won't you consider this adventurous little guy who is
looking for some love?

7/28/08 - The Finding Nemo Crew arrived earlier today from Ohio. According to their paperwork they
were surrendered to the shelter on 6/26/08 at 4 weeks old. That would make them 8 weeks old now. They
have been vaccinated (puppy vaccines and kennel cough) and dewormed several times already. The pups
are pretty big for their age. Not necessarily very tall but short, squatty, solid little babies! They look like they
have some mastiff in their heritage (both their builds and coloring). Some of the smaller pups resemble labs.
Maybe Dad was a Mastiff/Lab mix? Guess we will never know! What I do know is they are fat, friendly
and CUTE as can be. Pictures will be coming very soon. You better gets those applications in as they pretty
babies won't be around long!
