SOPHIE
UPDATE 6/24/08 -  Sophie has really fit in perfectly.  It's as if she has been a parrt of our family
forever.  She just passed her obedience test with flying colors, and despite a skunk incident a few
wekks ago, the onlyproblem has been the poo eating.  We working on that, and Sophie has gotten
much better.  Sophie is very territorial about her yard - she is contantly on alert for bunnies and
squirrels, and does her best to chase them out of the yard.
We recently had a large family birthday party, and Sophie was an absolute perfect host.  She made
over everyone, didn't beg too much, and was happy to see everyone.  The next test will be the visit
from my mother's boxer.
Adopting Sophie has been one of the best decisions of our life, and we are so happy to have her as a
part of our family.

UPDATE 4/6/08 - Sophie has moved in and made herself right at home.  She is currently curled up on
the couch (she's acquired the nickname of Sofa Lump) and pretty much exhausted; Mama took her on
a loong walk today.  Sophie usually gets two walks a day, has a blast chasing squirrels and bunnies in
her yard, as well as playing with an old softball.  We recently discovered that she loves ice cubes, and is
quick to pounce on any that fall to the floor.  Sophie and our son have a great time chasing each other
around the house, although Geoffrey doesn't like it that one of Sophie's duties is waking him up for
school, which usually entails Sophie stepping on him.  Sopie is a real love, and just adores being with
us.  Despite a couple of accidents, she has really fit in well with our house almost immediately.
Unfortuately, she starts obedience training nest wekk, and will be visiting the vet very soon.

3/23/08 - Sophie has been adopted!

3/8/08 1:00 AM -  Well, the sleepover is in progress and Sophie is a huge hit.  The party grew to 13
girls and each is taking turns with her.  All I'm hearing is, "I love Sophie." and "I never liked boxers, but
I love her."  "You should tell your mom to adopt her."  I'm so happy to see how she is with all these
kids.  Sophie has been on her leash and walked from room to room.  I haven't been able to pet her for
at least 3 hours.  She has been "captured" by these screaming, laughing, girls who will not let me put her
in the crate for the night.  This night has truly sold me on Sophie.  Let me tell you that if you have
children, she is a great family dog.  I am a huge fan of hers!!!!

3/7/08 - Sophie has made some strong progress with my dogs, but I do believe that the best decision
for Sophie and her adopted family would be for her to be an only dog.  Introductions to other dogs are
slow for Sophie.  She and Duke were nuzzling and kissing today, but she can go on the defensive (food,
toys, quick movements) easily with other dogs.  Not a weakness, but a definite precaution.  When she
is happy, she'll pick up anything lying around and carry it in her mouth - shoe, boot, plastic cup, sock -
and wag her tail.  It never fails to make me smile. When let outside, she never tries to bolt and run
away.   Also, out of her crate, she meets and welcomes people easily.  Crate her, and she will bark at
strangers to warn them to keep back from the crate.   She did this to me on her arrival.  She is warm
and affectionate.  My daughter is having a sleep over with 9 girls tonight and I have no hesitation with
Sophie around them - she loves kids.  She is in a good place right now to be adopted, are you the
home for Sophie?

3/2/08 - Sophie arrived one week today and is now wagging her nub and shaking her bum with
happiness!  She is now approaching my dogs without growling and wanting to play with them out in the
yard.  She goes from room to room carrying either a ball, her chew toy, a shoe or raw hide wanting
someone to play with her.  Last night, she slept on my daughters bed without any problems!  She is
however, a little bit of a music critic - she was barking when my daughter was practicing her trumpet.
Sophie is very sweet and loving and will be a great pet for a patient family.  Slow and steady wins the
race with Sophie!

3/1/08  -  It has been a slow process transitioning Sophie to our home.  This girl is nervous and on the
defensive with my dogs.  I understand from her former owner that she and the other female dog had a
number of fights and she is acting a little edgy.  It makes her skittishness and defensiveness
understandable.  She has been crated more than I care to crate a dog because she growls and has had
a few skirmishes with my dog, Duke. Yesterday was a very good day for all.  She was out of the crate
most of the day and even slept beside Duke at my feet.  Yeah!  Each day is a positive step forward for
her.  Her personality with people is off the charts sweet.  Kissing, loves children, wants to play, sits on
your lap, and gives more kisses.  Speaking of kissing - she has the softest tongue -  it feels like a swipe
of silk on your cheek.  Sophie is a great eater, hasn't had one accident in the house, and is not
aggressive with visitors, and loves car rides.  She is a sweet houseguest.  There is a lot of love that
Sophie gives to children - she lights up to see my girls.  Right now Sophie is "helping" them clean their
rooms.  I believe Sophie's personality will shine more in the next day or two.

2/25/08 - Sophie arrived yesterday. She is a beauty. I have a soft spot for white boxers (my first boxer
is one) so I was very happy to meet her. She is a big solid girl with a light/dark patch above her right
eye. She is crated right now and is nervous and a little bit cranky about her circumstances. My dogs (2
male, non-aggressive boxers) have met her through the crate and she growls when they approach. She
finished off 2 bowls of dry food and joined us for a walk. She sheds ...alot. She turned my blue
sweatshirt to resemble a white angora sweater. She is quite cute - she's in her crate nose-ing her
blankets to cover her food bowl. She slept through the night without a peep. She has been great with
my kids giving tons of kisses to them. I'll write more as we learn more about Miss Sophie.

Sophie was returned to SCBR after 3 years with her previous family. Sophie and the other dog were
fighting and the fights were escalating with Sophie being on the receiving end. She was "very lovable,
affectionate and smart."

UPDATE 4/18/05 - Hi, Sophie has been doing so well here. She has adjusted with no majors
problems. We're still working on housetraining, but she has improved greatly!! She's shed her old dry
coat and her new soft, silky fur is gorgeous - she's filled out a bit too and the vet thinks she looks
perfect. Her two legged boys are so in love with her. They love to help walk her and feed her and play.
She watches their every move. She also watches her big boxer sister Annie so intently. Annie certainly
has been a positive role model and Sophie follows her everywhere. It's very sweet. I've been working
with her on basic obedience commands and was set to sign her up for a class. The class that I was
interested in changed nights which is not good for my schedule and I'm now looking for another place to
bring her. Do you have any recommendations for a good trainer in the Lancaster, MA area (near
Leominster/Hudson)? I appreciate it. Sophie is awesome and goofy and we love her!!!

UPDATE 3/21/05 - Sophie has adjusted real well. Her house manners, for the most part, are
awesome. It took her a day to learn not to rush the door and sit and stay when she's being fed. She
comes when she's called (for the most part) and is learning  to walk better on a leash. Jumping into my
truck is still a mystery to her -
she just sort of crawls into it - very cute. She does love to go for rides - what boxer doesn't? She and
her boxer sister Annie play hard and have  bonded. After a play session, they love to snuggle in the
warm sunshine. Housetraining has been going well. The past week, she may have had an accident or
two, but has imporved greatly. She totally ignores our cat and loves to follow her 2 legged brothers
everywhere. Ben and Zach just adore her. We love her and are pschyed that she has adapted so well.
We're trying  to get a little meat on her bones, but she's at that gawky 18 month old boxer stage. We're
feeding her a high quality food and giving her some vitamins for her very dry skin and dull fur. I don't
know what else to write except for we love her and thank you for letting her live with us.

UPDATE 3/12/05 - My family consists of me, my husband Joe, my boys - Ben (almost 8) and Zach (4
1/2), Annie, our 2 1/2 year old boxer, Sissy, our 6 year old kitty, and now Princess, aka Princess
Sophie, who is 1 1/2.  She and Annie share the same birthday which I thought was a pretty neat thing.
Sophie has adapted pretty well.  She and Annie play  like there's no tomorrow.  We're working on
housetraining and she hasn't had an accident in a few days.  We got Annie when she was 7 months old
and it took her a while to be fully trained - so we know all about being patient.  She loves the boys and
the cat.  I'm hoping to get her into obedience training at the end of April.  The current session was full
by the time I initially brought here home.  I'm looking forward to it and my son Ben really wants to go
and watch us.  Sophie is very intelligent and very easy to train.  It took her a day to learn not to rush the
door - we have her sit and stay, and we also have her sit and stay when we're feeding her.  She's
wonderful and we love her!!!  Thank you SCBR for letting us take home such a precious baby!!!!

2/21/05 - Princess has been adopted!

2/17/05 - Princess has come back to find a new home as her family found they did not have the time to
care for her that they thought they would.

1/21/05 - It is becoming more and more obvious that Princess spent very little time in the house. She is
nervous walking on the tile floor, she is totally afraid of stairs and is not sure about the small rugs that
move. This poor girl needs to get use to all the goings on in a home. She loves everyone and is great
with the other dogs. She has not had any accidents in her crate or in the house. Putting her nose on the
counter is not out of the question. Princess is a doll, she does not know too many commands. I think
she is use to a heavy hand as a loud voice makes her hit the ground. She is catching on that she will
never be hurt here. Princess really wants and needs someone that will spend lots of time with her. She
wants to know right from wrong. She also deserves to know all the fun of living with a family not at the
end of a cold chain. Do you have the love and patience for this special girl?

1/15/05 - Princess was surrendered by her owner today. He said she was to strong and he had a back
injury. When Julie went to pick her up she was tied to a tree with a doghouse. It was obvious that she
spent most of her time there. Princess is super sweet and a happy girl. She has lived with 2 cats and a
small dog. Princess rode wonderfully in the car and was happy to meet anyone. She is a super cute girl
that won't be around long. We will update you as we get to know her a little better
