UPDATE 5/27/08 - Snowy continues to be doing just great. He is such a sweet boxer boy. We
finished obedience training a few weeks ago. Snowy was very nervious the first couple of weeks and
then settled in. He did exhibit some fear aggression towards the bigger dogs but that lessened during
the last couple of classes. I will need to continue to work with him around larger dogs. Snowy did
master all of the commands. He is a very smart boxer boy. Snowy attended the Pet Expo in Augusta
with me. I brought his crate so he would have a safe place when the big dogs came around. He was a
good mascot for SCBR. He is absolutely great with small dogs. He has met several. Snowy did well
when I brought Honeydew home for the day until her foster home could take her.
Snowy has really come out of his shell the past couple of months and is enjoying more play time. He is
playing his toys more and will bring them to me when he wants them tossed. This is another area we
have been working on as he seemed to have no interest in playing. He is such a goof when he plays
now. He continues to make me laugh. He loves being outside with me and we have been spending
these nice evenings afterwork out in the yard and going for walks. He watches me gardening. Several
neighbors have come by to meet and greet him. Snowy is an absolute gentlemen with both adults and
small children. Snowy is so gentle with everyone and I have never seen him jump up on anyone.
My niece came over to stay with him one evening while I was away. He took right to her and managed
to find his way onto the bed. She said he couldn't get close enough.
Snowy had his first trip to Moosehead over the weekend. We did alot of walking and visiting. He is a
great little traveler. He loved being at camp and was very playful.
Over the summer I will continue to work on socializing Snowy around other dogs in controled settings. I
can't tell you all how thankful I am to have him. He is such a love.
UPDATE 2/25/08 - Snowy is adjusting very well to my home. He continues to become more playful
each day. He loves his soft toys and chew bones. I watch him with his chew bones when I have
company as I don't quite trust him yet. He has shown some signs of "get your hand away from my
bone" Not with me but with visitors. He has had no accidents in the house and really likes doing his
business in the same area. This works out great for me as clean up is in a limited area. We have been
getting outside to play on the warmer days. He has a new fleece coat which he loves wearing.
I stopped by my vets with Snowy for a meet and greet. I wanted him to have a positive experience the
first time there. The Girls behind the counter just loved him. He had his picture taken. I'll be making an
appointment for him to have them do a quick physical. He was up to date on his medical when I
adopted him but I want them to check him out and get his kennel cough shot.
Snowy is just the most lovable, cuddly boy. I am so enjoying his company. He has met numerous
people at my home and visiting with friends. He loves riding and is so aware of his surroundings. He
just looks at everything. He really makes people laugh when we are stopped at a light and he looks
down at them.
I am still crating him during the day as he really wants to go with me. No issues noted while in the crate.
I keep a radio on.
Snowy should be starting obedience classes in March depending on the weather. He is now shaking
hands before his meals. Snowy has met a couple of dogs. He seems happy to see them but I sense that
he doesn't really want them aroudn me. We'll work on that. I think the obedience training will provide
a good social time for him. More later.
UPDATE 2/4/08 - Snowy arrived at my home about 8:30 PM on Friday night, January 25, 2008.
Thank you Julie for meeting me in Gray. Snowy came right to me and hopped right in my vehicle as if
he knew me. The ride home was very funny as he sat in the front seat watching where we were going.
When we got home he was greeted by my Adult son and grand daughter who were visiting, both of
which he fell in love with immediately and believe me the feeling is mutual.
In the morning I opened the drapes and he looked out across the field and pond as if to say "wow this
is where I am". We had several visitors on Saterday to welcome him. He wasn't a bit shy.
Snowy is just an awesome boy. He is absolutely perfect. He is just as sweet and gentle and is quite a
snuggler. He has made himself right at home. I wondered how he would be as an only dog. He doesn't
seem to mind being the center of attention! He did try to pull a blanket through his crate one day last
week while I was at work but has shown no other signs of separation anxiety since. I feel so fortunate
to have such a sweet boxer buddy.
1/25/08 - Snowy has been adopted!
1/18/08 - Snowy is doing very well and fits right in like he lives here. Last week he finally picked up a
stuffed toy on his own and trotted around the house with it for a few minutes! He is definitely more
relaxed and happy. His little nubby tail wiggles a lot more too now and he loves to have his head, faced
and neck rubbed. If I stop petting him he will nudge my hand and push his head under my hand,
figuring I will get the hint to keep going! LOL He is a really nice boy & deserves a great home!
1/6/08 - Snowy is settling in and doing very well here after a week in foster care. He gets along great
with my girl Sandi and my other foster boy Cyrus. He loves to curl up on the nearest dog bed
wherever I am and snoozes away. As soon as I move though, Snowy is following me to see what I am
going to do. He is very sweet, but he really is a nervous boy, especially around loud noises or quick
movements. Luckily it is not in the growly/biting way, but the submissive/roll on his back/cowering way.
I just keep petting his head and rubbing his belly and talking softly to him when he does this and tell him
he is okay. He seems to be getting a little better, but from what his last home said, this is just his
personality and he was this way with new people. For this reason I do think he would be best in a home
without kids under 4, just due to the extra activity and noise that comes along with younger kids.
Snowy does not have a mean bone in his body though and is just an awesome boy. He is ready to go
home and waiting for a nice new fluffy dog bed for him to "dig" and make it "just right" so he can sleep
at your feet too.
1/2/08 - Snowy was surrendered to rescue on Saturday to find another home. His family had adopted
both he & Princess almost 18 months ago, but has had trouble with Princess being very jealous of
Snowy since the beginning. They have been fostering Princess for the last several months trying to find
her the right home as they had decided to keep just Snowy. Since this time, she had started several
more fights with Snowy. The final straw was a big one she started during the busy holiday time and
their family decided that both dogs need to find new homes immediately.
Snowy is a really sweet boy. He has met my cat several times over the past few days and does not
care at all about him, so kitties will be okay in the next home. He seems to be a submissive boy and his
last home said he never started the fights with Princess, but toward the end he finally stopped wanting to
be beat up by her and would fight back more. Since he is still a little nervous about all the changes, I
have not done complete introductions with him and my boxer girl or other foster boy yet. He has met
them through the crates though and seems very friendly with them. He is great in his crate and likes to
go for car rides. So far he is just a nice boy, more updates as soon as I get to know him more.
7/21/06 - I was adopted with Princess!
7/2/06 - Snowy and Princess have arrived at the Thunder and Lightening Boxer Retreat. They were
owner surrenders to a shelter. They came in together and apparently have always lived together.
Although we would like to see them be able to have a home together that is probably not going to
happen. We will see how they do with the other dogs here. Most of the time they are happy if they
have a playmate at their new home. When they got here Melissa and I took them into the yard and
turned them loose. They started running around marking (snowy) everywhere. Princess could hear the
other dogs in the house barking and was getting all excited looking for them. We will try introducing
them maybe tomorrow or the next day once they have settled down. I will call the vets on Monday and
get them right in for a neuter appointment. Princess has some spots on her ears that will need to be
checked out and I think she might be blind in one eye not that you would notice as it doesn't seem to
bother her any. We will update them again as we get to know them. If you are interested in one or both
of these two get your application in today. I'm sure they won't be with us long. ( Pictures coming
tomorrow.)
7/1/06 - Hi all, Snowy and Princess have arrived at their foster home safe and sound. They are earlier
than I expected, now they have time to run around before bed. I kind of thought there would be more
traffic tie ups to get through. I'm glad it went so well. Thank you all for give these cuties a ride on such
a busy weekend. We will fatten them up and get them into there forever homes soon. Great Job
everyone. They will sleep safe and hopefully quiet tonight.
