3/14/08 - Sandy is doing a bit better. She prefers the wire crate over the plastic, and though she moans
a bit, is much less vocal. This morning, just a few minutes ago, she was outside checking on the squirrel
population. She couldn't catch one, but she spotted one in the trees. She sat on the snow pile and
watched it, and finally "woo woo woo-ed" at it several times! LOL! Very interesting behavior. She has
also mastered the dog door.
She has also played with Clara this morning. She doesn't take advantage of her blindness and they both
had a good "wrestling time"! Little Sandy at 37 lbs. and Clara at 60-ish! Too cute!
3/13/08 - Sandy's crate breakthrough: she is much better behaved in a wire crate. She still doesn't care
to be crated, but is much less vocal, at least for now. She really does not care for the plastic style of
crate.
3/12/08 - I forgot to mention that she seems to be ok with cats. So far no problems at all and they
don't seem at all apprehensive around her. Did I mention that she is very sweet! She is!
3/11/08 - Sandy may be crate trained, but if crated she should be placed in a sound-proof room! She
goes in willingly enough, but is very vocal about being "imprisoned". She also has some Separation
Anxiety. She counter surfs, opens doors and drawers, and in general lets one know that she doesn't
wish to be deserted! Some of the things she steals could be harmful to her health. She stole dog
medicines! She uses her teeth to do the opening and I have the marks on my cupboard doors and
drawers to prove it! She does walk well on leash, but doesn't seem to have any other training. She will
benefit from obedience training. Sandy also loves food: your food, her food, all food. I had some stale
bread that was going to go out to the birds the next morning: she apparently used the step-stool to
reach it, and ate every crumb! To do this she managed to sneak out of the bedroom in spite of a half
gate being leaned up against the doorway. Now she is leashed to the bureau at night! LOL She is very
cute, very smart and very devious! :)
3/5/08 - Sandy is fine being left uncrated when I am gone. She is a counter-surfer, and we will be
working on that with the "scat-strip" on the edge of the counter. I have removed the harness, which is
designed to hold an 80 pounder, and she is now wearing a collar to go with her petite being. She is very
playful and loves to run with Sam. In the house, Lola is a "damper" and makes life a bit too sedate for
Sandy. She is sleeping in the bedroom with the rest of the gang and doing well. Still no accidents and
she is trying to get the hang of the dog door.
3/2/08 - Sandy arrived at the Log Cabin Saturday evening. She is a cute little thing. She is all muscle!
She is 7 years old. She sure doesn't look it, and is quite a perky little character. She is a quick study
and tho' she hasn't learned the dog door on her own yet, she has figured out that if she dives out along
with another dog, before the doors spring back, that she can get out with the crowd. They are all getting
along quite well, so far, and she is pretty calm most of the time. She hasn't had much contact with the
cats yet. She has had no accidents in the house in the time she has been here.
Transporter comments:
3/1/08 - Dick and I helped transport sweet Sandy this morning. She weighs a mere 35 pounds and is
the cutest little girl with the greatest underbite. She rode well after a few minutes and showers you with
those wonderful Boxer kisses. Roz
