| UPDATE 9/1/11 - Phoenix turned 4 years old! She is such a wonderful dog. My husband is a sailor and went on a sailboat race from Marblehead to Halifax. Phoenix and I took a road trip up to Canada to pick up Papa. Phoenix was great going anywhere we did. We found lots of pet friendly motels, beautiful beaches and nice hiking. She met lots of friendly people and Phoenix realizes that life really is good and most people like her. Thanks Canada for being so dog friendly to our special boxer. UPDATE 12/21/10 - Phoenix has matured into such a lovely girl. She now wags her little tail a lot and it warms my heart. For about the first year she lived with us she had so much adjusting to do she didn't wag her tail. Now her whole body wags. She loves car and boat rides and knows what it means to "go to the boat". Her favorite ball is still the blinking hard ball which is fun to play with when it is dark outside when I get home from work at this time of the year. She loves to lay upside down on the couch which we find a funny trait that boxers seem to have. Our gas fireplace is one of her favorite places to lay next to in the winter. Thanks again to SCBR for bring us together! Phoenix bring us so much joy each and every day. UPDATE 11/19/09 - We love Phoenix! She loves to play at night with her blinking ball. She runs around the yard with it in her mouth and purposefully drops it where it rolls down a little hill so she can chase it. She is one of the smartest dogs I have ever owned which keeps us on our toes. In the winter I plan to take another dog training class so she can continue get out to meet other people and dogs. She also enjoys laying in front of the gas fireplace now that it is getting cold outside. Thanks SCBR for helping so many doggies that need you! UPDATE 12/3/08 - Update is great. We keep telling outselves that Phoenix must love her new home and the chance to RUN RUN RUN> oh yeah and bark too. She loves being the watch dog during daylight hours. then her shift is done at dusk, and it is crash time and she is napping most of the time in the corner of the couch. She has a friend come over once or twice a week to run and play and she thinks that is grand and gets along fine with other dogs. All in all we love her and thank everyone involved in SCBR to make this beloved pet available to us. thanks. UPDATE 11/17/08 - Lets just say "Phoenix is well adjusted", and loving her life. A 3 year old golden comes to play a fee times a week and running with him is great for her. Tons of energy then crash and burn and there is no moving her. Lots of smiles she brings to us, we are grateful. Phoenix is gaining good weight, she needed a few pounds and ALL health is fabulous. Training helped, and she is one of those that is too smart. Has it all figured out, so we get to keep that mind busy. We have a ball that lights up from the inside, forget where we got that, but she loves this at dusk ,or early evenings... hysterical to see this red ball glowing as she prances through the yard. She is SOOOO proud of herself when she carries this ball around. All is good, we think she is great. UPDATE 10/2/08 - We took Phoenix to our vet and got glowing reports on general condition and health, we noticed some ear scratching and the vet confirmed a Yeast infection. So she was on ear drops and then pills for 20 days, Seems to be doing great now. No scratching. Yeah. We have traveled with Phoenix, she LOVES the car. And we have done leash work and lots of boat trips, she is a natural on the water and that is a good thing, does not really like to swim with her sister but watches. She is adjusting well, She does GREAT with other dogs, children and was loving the dog park. The scared or skittish behaviour has just about 95% dissapeared. She only worries it seems when she should worry. She is also going to obedience and does great with all the people and other dogs. No problem there at all. She is VERY food motivated and learns her training for treats, it will be our mission to have her do her training moves without an obvious treat. She also learned the invisible fence with ease, we did not start that training untill we had her on the property for a few weeks, She could watch her sister Diamond and see and notice the boundaries, so once she had the collar on with the correction, she got it right away.Yippie. Now she can run and that she does, We call her a jumping bean, she is fast. and wants to play, play, play, we use a raquet ball and she loves the way that bounces. My favorite Phoenix story is the night we got her, she was very skittish meeting us, and it took awhile for her to approach us that night, but once in the car for her 1.5 hour trip home she was right at home and even slept. Once home and after doing her business outside she climbed on my chest on the couch and snuggled in after her long day. She is great, thanks to Dot, (Foster mom) and Leann and all of you that do great work. We love her,and she will be great addition to our family. UPDATE 9/29/08 - We are having fun with Phoenix. We started our obedience class and she is so smart that she learns everything super quickly and will do almost anything for tiny pieces of boiled chicken. She has had random pee accidents in the house but she will learn soon. It is very subtitle when she swoops by the door to go out so if you are not watching every second you may miss the ask. We praise her when she goes out so we are not worried. We play with her outside with a super bouncy ball and she loves it. She is now trained in our invisible fence and she can run free on about 2 acres. We still watch her but like I said, she is so smart. We never leave the dogs alone in the invisible fence anyway. She is also gaining weight and building muscles. 8/28/08 - Phoenix has been adopted! 8/17/08- Phoenix is a lovely red fawn, flashy, 3 white socks and 1 very long stocking! She just turned a year old. She has a long "dock" and natural ears. I think she will eventually get to be quite a big girl as she matures. She does have a tiny bit of colitis or something? It doesn't appear to be too bad, not a lot of blood at all. She had a small supper and ate every bit. She has been introduced to the "gang" and has had quite a lot of play time out in the yard with them. She and Fenway hit is off really well and have been almost constant companions! Cats: time will tell. |
