PETEY
UPDATE 5/31/08 -   Hi Everyone! Petey here again.  I thought everyone would like to know that not
only am I really happy with my new forever family, I have a new brother!  Bugsby (aka Buddy) came to
live with us last month.  Mom said that eventually she'd get me a brother or sister, but not right away.
But we went to the Topsham BRAD and little Bugsby was there.  He was so young and had some
major surgery ahead of him...Mom and I felt bad for him and agreed to take him home with us for a
couple of weeks before his surgery.  Well, once he got home with us Mom and I agreed that we should
be his forever home.  My two-legged brother, Jamie, said there was no way we could send him back.
I really love Buddy.  He LOVES to run and tussle with me.  It's great to have a four-legged friend to
play with.  He's just a puppy so I let him sleep in my bed with me at night and I don't even mind sharing
my food bowl with him (he always thinks I have something better in my bowl than he does).  Best of all,
his surgery went really well and he is completely back to normal now.  Thanks SCBR for getting not
only me a good forever home but for bringing Buddy into our family.

UPDATE 4/14/08 - Hi Everybody!  Just wanted to check in and let all my friends know that life is
great in my new forever home.  I was sad for awhile because Cody died.  He  let me sleep cuddled up
next to him.  I really liked that because he made me feel safe and secure.  He and Jules were the same
age and both had degenerative myelopathy of the spine.  My family was really upset to lose Cody so
soon after Jules - only three weeks later - but when he refused to eat or drink Mom said he was telling
us it "was time."  So...right now I am top dog! That's a good thing although I'd still like a brother or
sister who would chase me and I could chase them.  Dad and I run around together but it's not the
same thing when they only have two lets.  Mom says we can start looking for my forever brother or
sister soon.  But in the meantime we still have a lot of fun here.  Mom takes me in the car with her and I
really like that a lot.  On Sunday we went to the Pet Quarters in Topsham to see the rescued Great
Danes and to have my picture taken by the pet photographer that was there.  I was very polite to the
Great Danes, boy...were they big!  There was a little Pomeranian girl visiting too and she seemed to
have a crush on me.  Well, who wouldn't?  I also met two ferrats.  They were way cool!  Next week
we plan to go to the SCBR BRAD in Topsham.  I hope I'll see some of my SCBR friends there.  Mom
wants everyone to know that I am mastering the command "sit" and "stay" is getting better.  So, life is
good for me.  Mom can't wait for summer so we can go swimming down in the cove.  I haven't seen it
yet but I guess we also have a boat...oh boy, Captain Petey at the helm!  Well, that's all for now.  I'll
write again soon!!

UPDATE 2/22/08 - Hi Everyone!  Petey here!  Just wanted to let everyone know that I am doing great
with my new forever family.  Mom says I am the practically perfect dog.  Even my big brother, Cody,
loves me.  He was a little confused at first because if you look at me from the left I look just like Jules.
It took a few minutes for him to figure out that I wasn't Jules but he has been really, really nice to me.
He even lets me share his bed. Mom calls me "velcro dog" because I'm so devoted to her.  I follow her
everywhere and we like to cuddle. I especially like it when we go in the car to do errands together. I
like to think she needs me to watch out for her.  The food here is great too. I am really happy.  Thank
you SCBR, and especially my foster mom, for taking such good care of me and finding me such a good
home.  I'm a very happy Boxer and my new forever family and I are doing great.  i've asked Mom if
she will take me to one of the meet and greets so I can see all my SCBR friends.   I'll write again soon.
Love, Petey (Pears)

2/15/08 - Petey has been adopted!

2/10/08 - WOW!  This is a GREAT guy!  He is already part of the family here, with full house
priveledges, and full interaction with the other 2 Boxers here.  He loves everybody--human or canine,
and wants everybody to love him.  Petey got to go for a car ride today and was a perfect gentleman in
the car.  He indicated that he preferred to have the window open a bit.  Probably that big jowly nose of
his wanted to catch all of the new scents
.

2/9/08 -
Petey arrived  at the Riverview after a short ride up to Maine from NH, where he spent the last
three months.  He is a big white boy with --you guessed it--one brown patch over one eye and ear!  (I
am old enough to remeber the Little Rascals--does anyone else?)  Petey is a return to rescue.  Another
victim of the family distintegration that is divorce.  He ia big lug, a real lovebug, and has the biggest
tongue I have seen in quite along time.

Petey is reported by both his adoptive family and his former foster home to be good with dogs and
children, but 'unknown' with cats.  And as I do not have a cat, that information will stay unknown!  He
has already met my Beau and my other foster, Maxi, through the baby gates, and was a big wiggle butt.
I'm thinking that we can do the face to face meetings pretty soon.

Petey is housebroken and already did all of his business outside.  He is the first Boxer that I have had in
ages who seems to ENJOY the snow!  He spent a good hour out in the yard today, gambolling through
the snowdrifts.  In fact, it was hard to get him to come back in the house!

We at the the Rverview have already taken a liking to this big friendly fellow, and are sure that he will fit
right in while he waits for his forever home to come along

UPDATE 12/3/07 -   Hi,  I'm not sure if I gave the information on Petey's obedience classes or not.
He is doing one on one training with Lisa Sweet from LSweet Pet Grooming & Obedience.  She is
located in Farmington, and charges $45.00 per one on one session.  We are currently meeting her once
a week, but Petey will be joining a group session in January.  Turns out that Petey is very friendly with
all dogs, and will do well in group classes too.   I am not sure what additional information you need.

UPDATE 11/23/07 -   Hi All, Just wanted to give you a Petey update.  He is doing wonderfully.  I just
adore him so much.  He is really coming out of his shell, and showing the cutest little bouncy personality.
He gets along great with Lucy (the greatest boxer girl ever!) as if they've been together forever.  Petey
doesn't need my help getting in or out of the car anymore.  It's like he's wiggled his hips back to health!
:)  He goes for his third vet visit on Monday.  It's for a booster shot for lyme disease prevention and
something else.  He's also been microchipped, so now he's official!  The Petey Sweetey Boy is stuck
with me forever.  He is taking one on one obedience classes for now (every Monday night) and will
begin a group session in January, but he is meeting lots of other dogs, and doesn't seem bothered by
anyone.  (He even seems pretty gentle with the little dogs.)  Petey is very smart and seems to learn
things quickly.  He can show you where we keep the treats.  He stands in front of the cupboard and
stares at it after a walk...
Thank you SCBR for bringing Petey & I togehter.  He's the greatest!!!!

UPDATE 11/5/07 -   Petey has been with me for less than a week, and he is really settling in nicely.
What an absolute love!  He gets along well with my boxer girl, Lucy.  They chase each other around
and play as if they'd been together forever!
Petey went to meet my vet last Friday, and everyone was immediately charmed by him.  He goes to the
vet again tomorrow to see a cardio-specialist to have an ultrasound because of his heart murmur, and
Wednesday afternoon he meets for the first time with his personal trainer.  (Petey will meet one on one
with a trainer as well as have obedience classes) Saturday he played with 4 children and he had so
much fun!  Normally my house is kind of quiet, but Petey got a taste of all the family visiting and he
LOVED it.
I was afraid it would take him so long to come out of his shell, but that doesn't seem to be the case.
I have not had any problems with him at all.  He drove 10 hours with me the first day, and he was
AWESOME!
He rides well, is a perfect gentlemen on the leash, and always asks to go out when he needs to!
It is a pleasure to have Petey!
Thanks so much to all of you who made it possible!

10/31/07 - Petey has been adopted!

10/21/07 - Petey has arrived here from his other foster home. His foster mom was unable to foster him
at this time for personal reasons. We really took a quick liking to this beautiful boy. He is very mellow
and sweet. He loves to be near his people companions at all times. He listens pretty well to his simple
commands such as "come". He may hesitate a little at first, but then come to you. He also circles around
a spot several times prior to laying down. He can be a character to watch. His fur is vey soft. We love
just petting him and hugging him. He loves the attention and is a very affection dog. Petey would make a
great campanion to any family no matter how small or large the family may be. He gets along great with
my two boxers, Athena and Cece. They don't seem to mind him at all. We know he would be a great
addition to any home due to his sweet mellow nature. Is anyone out there ready for a big soft lug of fur
love to take home??? Petey is it!!

10/17/07 - Just to note that Petey is resting up at his new foster home. He was warmly welcomed by
his foster sister Athena and a visiting (?!) neighborhood dog. Have to love Bob & Debbie for their
warm hearts and love for all dogs (especially Boxers!). Melissa and her family took good care of Petey
and sent him off with some sadness, but knowing that this move is going to be best for everyone.

10/17/07 - Petey is on his way to his new foster home! We will really miss the big guy.  I will check the
site often for updates. Our first foster experience with SCBR was awesome - I just wish we would
have been able to see him through to adoption. Hopefully when the baby is born I can get back in the
saddle.
THANK YOU to Allison for transporting him. I hope his new foster family enjoys him as much as we
did.

9/25/07 - Petey has progressed leaps and bounds since he first came into rescue. Don't let my previous
updates scare you! His hips have improved so much - he's not 100%, but he's sure close. His breathing
is normal, not loud at all, and we've gotten rid of all but the stubbornest of pressure sores on his legs.
He is SO sweet and SO loving - this big guy is just the epitome of the "loyal companion".  He loves to
be outside, and I've gotten him up to about a 2 mile walk without it seeming to bother him at all. He
does the cutest little spin when he's ready to lay down.. about 5-6 times and then FLOP all at once,
with the biggiest SIGH.

If you're considering opening your home,  take a good look at our Petey. I believe he truly is a one- of-
a- kind dog and anyone who takes him into their life will be so blessed.

9/5/07 - I can't believe this sweet guy is still waiting for his forever home!! Petey is doing so well. We've
cut him down to just two glucosamine supplements a day, and his hips are doing marvelous. He is
fantastic both on and off leash. He is a very mellow dog that doesn't require much exercise, but he will
love it if you'll walk him in the evenings.

One word of caution! Now that his hips are feeling better, he tends to "counter surf" when your'e not
looking! I lost half a pan of chicken alfredo last night to him!!

If you're ready to open your home, please consider Petey. Despite his rough start, he is a great
companion and would just thrive in a forever home with lots of love.

8/19/07 - Petey is completely recovered from his neuter, and is just SUCH a happy boy. He is showing
new interest in toys and playing with other dogs. He is very well socialized and would do great in a
home with other dogs. In the morning, when I let him out of his crate to go outside, he can hardly
contain his excitement. He gets those bouncy boxer feet going, and just wiggles all over the place.
You'd never even tell that his hips were hurting him just a couple short weeks ago. He is like a
completely different dog!! Petey is still waiting patiently for his forever family - so get your applications
in for our Slobberchops!!!

8/9/07 - Petey has been neutered! He is now up to date on all of his medical stuff, and as soon as he's
done walking funny (about a week) - he will be ready for his forever home!! He is the sweetest,
gentlest, most loving guy. He is a great companion and just loves to be with his people. He has no fear
of other dogs - even dogs he has never met he is wonderful with. His hips have shown a lot of
improvement, and his breathing is 10000 times better! This handsome boy won't last long - so get your
applications in!!!

8/4/07 - Petey has been taking glucosamine supplements the last couple of days and what a difference!
He is jumping and boucing around like a 4 year old boxer should be. His skin and coat are vastly
improved, and we are working on killing the last of the yeast on his feet. His breathing is SO MUCH
BETTER - we were worried about how loud he used to be, but he's just as quiet - if not quieter - than
our other dog. He's scheduled to be neutered on Wednesday 8/8, and once he recoveres, he'll be
ready for his forever home!!  He is great with other dogs, cats, and kids over 4 - he ADORES my
daughter especially. He's getting very fond of his slow leash walks around our property in the evening
and you can tell he is so happy that his legs are finally feeling better. He gives the best sloppy wet kisses
and he would love to be someone's constant companion. Petey is almost ready for his forever home -
and he has so much love and affection to give!

8/1/07 - Alrighty. First off, we can change his top box info to read 70 lbs, and he is up to date on his
shots, and heartworm NEGATIVE.  Here's the rundown of what's going on with our Petey:

1. Skin issues - yeast infections around his nail beds / feet. Pressure sores on his joints. The pressure
sores will clear up, but may or may not regrow any hair over the damaged tissue.

2. He has a malformed (elongated) soft palate, which is why his breathing is so loud. That will not go
away - he will be a loud breather / snorer, and whoever is lucky enough to adopt this big lug will have
to be tolerant of his noise.

3. He has a slight heart murmer, grade 2 out of 6.

4. He has bilateral hip dysplasia, more severe in the right leg. Range of motion is limited.

5. Lastly, he has whip worms and round worm, so we got some dewormer.

Temperament wise, he is SUCH a sweetie. He adores my daughter, has awesome leash manners, and
is quite a lazy bones. He would be well suited to go to a home with older adults, children over the age
of 4 (little ones would be too much stimulation for him), or anyone else who consideres themselves a
"couch potato"! "Mr. Slobberchops", as we've nicknamed him, has no problem getting out of a car or
down stairs, but does have some limitations as far as getting into things or going up stairs. He loves
being with his people, and would probably do best in a home where he isn't left alone for long periods
of time.

7/31/07 - Petey is  doing better today.  He actually laid down and got some rest a few times, and isn't
breathing as heavy. He's eating OK too. Still skittish around loud noises/ sudden movements, but
improving.  And he is SO SWEET. He ADORES my 6 year old. And he's an angel on his leash.

7/29/07 - Petey definitly needs a lot of TLC. He has some sores on his back legs and front feet, and a
couple more possible sore spots along his spine and on the top of his head. His back legs seem weak,
like the muscles have atrophied.  It looks like he's spent most of his time crated :(  He has been
following me around since he got here, drooling, snorting, and wagging his little nub. He looks like his
gums are grown over his teeth too, so we'll definitly have to get him looked at sooner rather than later.
He's a little skittish with loud noises and sudden movements, but he's been just fine so far with the other
dog in the house, and my kids too. I will update more when he's settled in and he's seen the vet.
