UPDATE 12/2/09 - Hi All, it's time to do Oscar's (Ossie Man) update.  I can't
believe a whole year has passed, but this boy is going stong.  He has been a
great addition to our home, and to the pack as a whole.  He is the best behaved
and happy boy I had hoped he would be.
His idea of spending a good day, relaxing in the back yard, going for long walks,
riding in the car preferably to the bank or Duncan Donuts where he gets a treat
going thru the "drive thru", and playing with his foster brother or my Boston who is
convinced she can boss him around.
He does love to sleep in on rainy days, and he is also a bit of a bed hog, but he
has the best temperment I could have hoped for.
Thank you, we love him and more importantly, he's happy.

UPDATE 4/28/09 - Wow, it's been six months already....Oscar (Ossie Man)is so
much a part of our lives it is actually hard to imagine when he wasn't here.  One of
his favorite things of course is eating, and he is very accomplished at this. His
thyroid levels are good, so he will remain on his meds for this, he was heartworm
negative...yea.
He loves having a fenced yard, and was introduced to the swinging screen door
from the house onto the deck....that was funny to watch.  Robi and Molly are used
to it, and typical of all the dogs when they first try it, Ossie Man pushed his head
and neck thru and stopped dead in his tracks.  I had to actually coax him in and
out a few times before he finally realized it was okay to go thru.
The most unusual thing I have found with Oscar is as much as he loves being
outside.  He won't play outside...he will chase a ball in the house, and play tug of
war with ropes, and chew his bones....but outside.  Nothing...no balls, no ropes,
no toys....he will run a few laps but then he is happy to just patrol the 1/4 acre of
fence, lay in the sun or shade but just will not play.  He will watch the girls chase
the tennis balls then jump in the doggy pool.  He's not sure pools are for boxers
either, he got in when I asked, but was out before I could laugh at his expression.
He still loves his walks, and his car rides and meeting new people.  I found out
he loves kids (not surprising) and he is very gentle with my 3 yr old neice.  So
needless to say, he is very happy in his forever home.

UPDATE 3/6/09 - We still discover something new about Oscar everyday, but he
is still doing awesome in our home and is so very much a part of our lives.  He
loves to go for walks, and seems to really do best when he is walking in the pack,
Robi my white boxer girl and Molly my Boston Terrier.  He is really doing great as
far as his leash training, far better than my Boston girl.  We also introduced Oscar
to local park, and because of my hours we get to go when the park is empty
during the day.  He has a blast and loves running on the trails.  His first time out
he dragged a 25 foot leadline, but after a few trips there he is now graduated to
just dragging a leash, and he stays pretty close, not usually more than 15 feet
ahead of me.
Oscar loves to talk too, he talks to his toys when he plays, he talks when he wants
to go out and when he wants to come back inside, he talks when he wants to go
for a walk or car ride.  He is just to funny, it is impossible to ignore him when he
wants something because he won't stop talking until he gets it.  He is trying very
hard to teach my Boston to box as well.  She learned to do the "boxer butt head"
with my first two boxers, but they never boxed with her.  Oscar is determined to
teach her.  Molly on the other hand, can get a bit snippy when slapped by a 95
pound boxer paw.  But the two are really the best of friends and often sleep in bed
together with me or can be found napping on the loveseat together.
Dinner time is one of his favorite times, this boy loves to eat, but he is so good,
they all eat in a different corner of the kitchen, and there is never even the slightest
food issue between the three of them. Granted I am always in the kitchen with
them, but it still amazes me how well they all seem to do together.  With treats
they all sit side by side and wait there turn for their cookies, something they do get
a few times a day.
I think one of the things (besides his toys)that Oscar loves the most is the yard,
he loves being outside, he loves it when the dogs next door come over and run up
and down the fence line.  He loves chasing the squirrels (which he never
catches)and he loves getting the girls to run with him around the yard, his sprints
I call them.  He does this every day, snow or frozen ground, and he is also the first
boxer I've ever had that doesn't care if it's raining or snowing, he wants to go
outside and check the fence whenever the spirit moves him.  I can't wait to see
what he thinks of the swinging screen door this summer.
Well that's all the news about Oscar (aka Ossie Man)for now, I will keep everyone
updated as the year goes on.

UPDATE 1/12/09 - Wow, where do I begin...well, Oscar has been a part of our
family now for a little over a month.  He is awesome, we have fallen in love with
this boy.  He is gentle, funny, calm yet has his moments of being very energized.  I
can't say enough good things about this boy.  I did think that going for walks was
going to be a challange, but as it turns out, he is very very good on the
leash...walks well, sits, shakes paw, heels (somewhat) stops when told, he is
really very good.  When I have one or the other of the girls (my boxer girl or Boston
terrier girl) join us, he is actually better walking than when he is by himself. So far
I haven'd walked all three together yet as they out weight me when all together.
He did get a new bed for Christmas, which we put upstairs, but didn't need to as
he sneaks up on my bed when I'm sleeping.  He has also learned that the small
lump under the covers (Molly the Boston Terrier) is not something you step on
when sneaking up on the bed.  She turns into a torpedo and thinks nothing of
chasing him off the bed.  As long as he doesn't step on her everyone sleeps
together.
So far he gets along with everyone he has met, loves having a fenced yard, gets
along with other dogs and is just a love bug in a very big body.
I would like to thank everyone who helped bring this boy into rescue, we are
grateful he will be with us forever.

11/30/08 - Oscar has been adopted!

10/2/08 - Oscar is doing very well here. He is very well mannered and gentle. He
likes walks but doesn't know his own strength as he is a very big boy. Oscar
enjoys following you around, giving kisses when you ask for them, being petted,
taking car rides and chilling out on the floor or couch. He really doesn't shed as
much as other boxers have in the past. He just enjoys being wherever you are.
We need to get him fixed and probably updated the paperwork we were given was
only a quarter of a page long so it didn't say very much. We will schedule and
appointment A.S.A.P. It is so funny when you are trying to get Oscar to move he
will sit down and not budge. Then if you get a treat out and he will follow that
wherever you go!!! He is just a little (huge) love bug that needs some more love.
Could you be the family for him?

09/28/08 - We picked up Oscar a few hours ago and it is obvious that he is
tuckered out from his journey.  He is 5 years old and really big, his last owners
must have fed him way to much!!!  I will write a box top for him within a few days
when we get to know him better. He is a pretty slow guy but he is really strong.
Payton is not enjoying another dog "stealing" attention from "his" people but he
will get over it soon enough.
