| 4/15/08 - Nyla went back to the vet to have her stitches removed. She enjoys the 45 minute ride. She looks out the window most of the ride there and lays down on the ride home. The vet mentioned she may be an alpha female as she was not offering friendly greetings to the other dogs when she went in to be spayed. I am trying to set up a play date to see how she does. She absolutely loves humans of all ages. She has spent time with people from age 3-87 and was well behaved with all. I am having a fence put up in my yard and she has fallen in love with the gentleman that is doing it. He takes her out while he is working and she contently watches him, plays or sleeps. She loves being outside. That's it for now. 4/8/08 - Nyla spend a little more time with the cats yesterday. She seems interested but not aggressive. She only growled and barked when my big cat was swatting at her. When I told her it was time to go back downstairs she went willingly shaking her nub. She went to the top of the stairs a few more times and just sniffed around. She is not on the hunt for them I think she is looking for a playmate. 4/5/08 - Nyla has finished her meds was spayed on Wednesday 04/02/08. She was quite groggy the first day but is making a speedy recovery. Prior to her spay I introduced her to my 2 cats briefly. She seemed very interested in them. When she is feeling a little better I will try again. She had a visit from my 3 year old nephew last Monday and loved him. He asked her to speak and she gave such a bark that is made him jump. She has been diagnosed with allergies and has been taking Benadryl to minimize the itch. She still doesn't like being home alone unless she is crated so it may be best if she is in a home where someone is home more often. Her favorite past times are running in the yard, tossing her squeaky ball around, giving kisses and cuddling. I have to say she has the most precious face I have ever seen. So if you're looking for a beautiful brindle cuddle bug get your application in soon. 3/12/08 - Nyla continues to be the most lovable little girl ever. If you kneel down she loves to put her front paws on your shoulders and kiss kiss kiss. These are serious kisses. She strategically places each one in it's designated spot. As you can see from the pictures her spots are getting much better and the itching has subsided quite a bit. She will be finishing up her meds in about 1 week, then be spayed. Since her spots are doing much better I took the baby gate down to allow her into the living room. She sniffed around for a few minutes then jumped on top of me on the couch, gave me about 20 minutes of kisses and fell asleep (snoring of course). What a great cuddler she is. She enjoys her outings in the car and loves a fenced in yard to run in. I tried to take some pictures of her running but only captured a brindle blurr. She still doesn't like being home alone out of the crate, but settles down in her crate. She loves toys, treats, walks, people, belly rubs, cuddling, running and peanut butter! If you can provide these, get your application in. 2/22/08 - Sorry this update is so late. Nyla has been doing great. She has 3 more weeks of her meds then she will be spayed. She continues to be the most lovable little girl. She decided her favorite toy is a squeaky ball. She will play with that thing for hours on end. She is good on a leash. She does pull when she smells something she likes and when she sees other dogs. I am waiting until she finishes her meds before introducing her to other dogs and cats. She loves to run. I take her to my parents because theiryard is fenced in and she has a ball. Sometimes she curls up and falls asleep on the way home. Another thing about Nyla is that she is very respectful of her boundaries. She doesn't jump on the counter or table. I keep a 2 foot baby gate between the living room and kitchen and though we all know she could scale it she doesn't even attempt it. This girl is going to make someone a very good companion. 2/4/08 - Nyla has settled in fine in her foster home. We finally received results on her skin test and it is positive for ringworm. She is now taking meds and being dipped once a week. She will be spayed once her treatment is complete. She continues to be so loving through this whole ordeal. She also takes her pills like a champ. She will eat anything if you hide it in peanut butter. We are still working on leaving her out of the crate when I am not home. I think she just hasn't realized that when I leave I will always come back. She is not destructive she just barks, pants and drools. On the flip side she is perfectly happy to relax in the crate when I am not home. That's it for now. 1/20/08 - Nyla has had a great week. After one failed attempt, a few sponge baths and lots of brushing she finally received a full bath. She was wonderful. She hopped in the tub when asked and stayed relatively still with the exception of a few full body shakes but that was expected. Her coat is so shinny and soft. She is also making progress with the crate. She initially had to be in it at night and when I go to work because she would bark continuously. She now has earned the privilege of being out of it at night. She grumbles for a little while because she wants to be with you but settles down quickly and off to sleep. We are working on keeping her out when I am out of the house. She is a quick learner and wants to please so I am sure it won't take much time at all. This girl loves attention! She loves to be pet, brushed and will roll on her back for a belly rub. Her skin in looking better and she will be spayed in the next couple weeks so get your apps in because this little love bug won't be around for long! 1/15/08 - Nyla is doing great. She is eating 3 meals a day and looks like she has put on a well needed pound or two. She has been enjoying playing in the snow. She buries her ball in the snow and has a ball digging it up. She also loves to run and play fetch. She gives the ball back most of the time. She is crated at night and is pretty good about it. She grumbles for about 20 minutes and then sleeps like a baby. We are still working on clearing up her spots. Once that is done she will be spayed. She has seen other dogs in the neighborhood and is interested in them in a playful way. Once she is better we will head to the dog park to see how she does. Well that is all for now. 1/7/08 - Nyla had her vet appointment today. She is 45 pounds but we are working on that as she needs to gain a few. She is heartworm and lyme negative. She is not spayed yet but the vet thinks she is either going into or coming out of heat so we will give it a week or so before we make her appointment to be spayed. She has a few itchy spots that the vet is waiting for tests to come back to determine what they are. Then we can treat them appropriately. Nyla is the sweetest dog. She is friendly to all that meet her. She rides well in the car (sleeps most of the ride). I haven't introduced her to the cats yet but they will be introduced once her spots are treated. She is good in the crate as long as you are on the same floor as her. If I try to go upstairs she barks. We are working on that. She has not had one accident in the house. She can sit, stay, paw, down and comes when called. She is going to make a wonderful addition to anyone's home. 1/5/08 - Our new girl from one of our favorite shelters has arrived. She is pretty skinny and in need of a good bath. She has a bit of an upset stomach so she is taking a little time to settle in. I will send an update when I get to know her a little better |
