| UPDATE 5/13/09 - Mojo has been with us six months now and it is surprising to see how far he's come. No more ribs showing, has learned to play and is much calmer around people. In March, we finished obedience training and now I am all trained (lol). He does really well walking off a leash and usually stays right by my side or a little ahead of me. We walk to the beach every day, weather permitting. We took a trip to Michigan last month and Mojo met my daughter's sheltie and black lab. They got along well and played outside a lot with no problems. Mojo was very good traveling and was not nervous riding. Just a short time after we got back from Michigan, he had a touch of colitis and took medicine for a few days, he's all better now. Last week he got his test for heart worm and lime disease, etc. (all negative) and he got his first lime vaccination, second shot due in a couple weeks. I call him my "white shadow" as he follows me everywhere and if I am out of sight for more than a few minutes, he's on the hunt! He is a very loving dog and loves to give hugs and kisses. We are very lucky to have Mojo and he likes our quiet lifestyle. Loud, sudden noises and sudden moves still make him jumpy. He still has no food allergies and loves his mealtime. Thank you SCBR for placing Mojo with us. We love him and we just want him to be a happy, loving member of our family. UPDATE 2/13/09 - Mojo has taken over our home and our hearts. He is a very sweet, lovable boy and has grown quite fat and sassy. I am now trying to take a couple of pounds off him. (He was just so thin when we first got him.) We have been on walks when the weather permits which has not been very often. He has had no health issues, no food allergies. The only allergy he has is if his dinner is not in his bowl at 5:00 p.m. he gives you the sideways boxer look and starts rattling his bowl like he's starving. Same happens in the morning after he is let out, back in for bowl check! He is on his third week of obedience training and he is doing quite well. I believe he has been to training or was trained in the past as he is very quick to learn. He loves to ride and go with my husband when he plows snow. He still has some issues with men as he growls, but is not aggressive. Sometimes he still cowers and shakes when you let him out of the truck and has issues with very loud noises and sudden movement. It is a lot better now than three months ago. Thank you SCBR for our wonderful boy. UPDATE 1/13/09 - Mojo is great! He has very few issues. He does have misgivings about getting out of the truck when we arrive at a new destination. He cowers and shakes as if he is afraid he is being "dumped" again. Last Tuesday I took him to NH to my sisters and he enjoyed his day with her Aussie. He plays well with other dogs and loves being outside except if it is raining/snowing. Mojo loves to ride and to go with my husband when he plows the road. His overall health has been good. He now has a nice shiny coat and the hair continues to grow back on his lower legs and stomach. He has had no food allergies and all the bumps that were under his skin are gone. Mojo loves his mealtime and waits sometimes not so patiently for me to fix it. He also has no ribs showing now!! He is a not so thin sweet boy. He starts his obedience training tomorrow 01/14/09 or should I say, I start my training. Mojo has me pretty well trained. He gets along well with the ferrets and has only had one territorial issue with the cat. We are so happy he came into our lives and helped fill the void left by the loss of our other boxer last spring. Thank you SCBR for your dedication and hard work. UPDATE 12/13/08 - Mojo has been with us a month now and seems to be settling in rather nicely. We don't crate him and he doesn't get into anything. The first two days he was left alone he urinated in the house, but since then everything is okay. The longest he is alone is about six hours. He still has a little separation anxiety, but that seems to be getting better. He loves to ride in the truck and go for walks on the beach although the weather has not been cooperating. We have not taken him on a long trip yet. He loves his treats and his toys. It took him about three weeks to learn how to play with his toys, but once he got the hang of it, there's no stopping him. He's a big baby, loves attention and sleeps where he wants, mostly on the couch and the bed. There have been no problems with his health. No food allergies as stated on his form from the shelter. We started him off with just a bite of a different foods. He has a very good appetite!! His ribs are not as visible as they were when he came home with us. I put vitamin E on his scars and some of the scars on his front legs are starting to grow some fur. On November 18th I registered him with the town for 2009, so he's all legal! He is registered for obedience training which starts on January 14th. He just missed the November session. He minds very well and tries to please. Sometimes he's not sure what you want him to do, but he's catching on. He still has times when you open the truck door to let him out and he cowers and shakes. He must have really had a bad experience. Mojo says he likes it here and wants to stay with us. We love him! 11/13/08 - Mojo has been adopted! 9/18/08 - Mojo is doing very well here and is getting along great with Simon. He went to the vet earlier this week to have his heartworm/lyme combo test and fecal check and he is negative for all. He is still very skinny, only weighing 50 lbs (should be about 55 lbs), but is slowly putting on the weight since he has been here. He does eat well and loves his dinner time! I have found that Mojo is a more nervous type of a dog with strangers. With me he has no issues at all and is perfectly comfortable and will wiggle and play. He will need a more quiet type of a home without a lot of people coming and going and not in a big city situation. He would not do well in your dog park situation with lots of strangers, but he does fine walking on a leash with people around in the neighborhood. He just gets very nervous when someone comes to pet or talk to him that he doesn't know. He either cowers a little or growls or barks to warn them he is afraid. It just seems like he may not have had a lot of socialization when he was a puppy and when they get to be adults, it is hard to change this fear. With someone who has patience and understanding and love for him, Mojo will only blossum. Are you that home for this cutie? 9/8/08 - Mojo came into rescue last week from a nice shelter where he had been about the last month. Thank you to them and the volunteer who brought him to meet me! Mojo was nervous when he first got out of the truck, but after a few minutes of sniffing and being around me, he was fine. We road around for a little while doing some errands and to have some "bonding time". It worked as after that Mojo has been perfectly fine around me and no more nervousness. Mojo is a 3 year old medium sized white purebred boxer boy with one fawn ear & one fawn eye patch. He's very cute, but not too photogenic, so I'm trying to get some better pictures of him. He was surrendered to the shelter after being adopted from there one year before. His home adopted a Great Dane from another rescue and when the two of them got into a bad fight, poor Mojo who had lived there a year got the short end of the stick and was back at the shelter to find another home. :( Mojo has been nothing but wiggles when he met my boxer boy Simon and my other foster, Toby, through his crate. I introduced him to them yesterday and so far so good and he has no aggression issues with them at all. He loves to ride in the car and waits patiently for me to do my errands (of course he's happy as a clam in the chilly air conditioned car!). More updates as I get to know him further! |
