UPDATE 4/13/09 - Bella, like most of us is happy that winter is over
and she can once again run around outdoors without being over her
head in snow.  She's really enjoying the warmer days and can be
found sleeping in the sunny spot in the house, wherever that may be
depending on the time of day. This little Southern Bella loves the heat.
We are now able to take our nice walks down to the shore.  This gives
us a chance to meet new friends both human and hairy. Her best
friend Devin came for Easter dinner yesterday and brought her newly
adopted sister Jaimie with her.  They all get along well, in fact this was
the first time I have witnessed Bella engaging another dog in
chase/play.  We still have not conquered the travel sickness problem
but keep trying.  Now that we have reached the 6mth point Bella is a
happy, loving sweet little girl that is easy and fun to have around.

UPDATE 1/12/09 - Bella continues to be a great little girl.  She's very
smart and already has the schedule worked out.  She knows when I'm
getting ready for work and will go into her crate in anticipation.  Luckily
for both of us there are more at home days than work days.  We had a
great Christmas.  Devin came to visit bringing new toys and lots of
treats. She also got to meet new people which worked out fine.  She's
very interested in the wild turkeys that walk thru the yard and lets me
know they're around.  Bella has decided that she quite likes to plough
thru the fluffy snow to play a game of chase or just retrieve her ball.  I
thought with her beagle nose that I would never be able to trust her
unleashed but in the back yard with a long leader on I can let go of the
end and allow her to run a good distance.  She loves to do this and its
very good exercise for her. We just continue to have fun together.

UPDATE 12/10/08 - Bella is doing great.  She still likes to play with her
toys and has her "wild woman" moments when she thinks she's a
greyhound and races from room to room which puts the literal
meaning to scatter rugs.  Being a Southern girl this is her first
experience with snow.  She's not impressed but doesn't seem to mind
it.  Bella is nothing like as skittish as when she first came home.  She
rarely barked but now feels confident enough to alert me to cats,
people and neighbors dogs coming into the yard.  It's a funny little
bark/howl that always makes me laugh. She is always so happy to see
me when I get home, to tell me about her day....yes, she "talks" to me.
She was very happy to see her friend Devin come to visit for
Thanksgiving.  A long walk after a turkey dinner was in order for us all.
We graduated from obedience class last week. Travel is still a
challenge but we have found she travels better on an empty tummy.
We will keep working on this as my hope is to take her many places
to meet more people and pets. But I think our favourite time is when
we cuddle up together....she's such a cutie and we are a couple of
very happy girls.

UPDATE 11/10/08 - Bella has settled in extremely well and after only
48 hours she quickly found her way around and it felt like she had
been here for ever.  She loves to play with toys and really loves to go
for a walk to sniff all the smells, her tail rarely stops wagging all the
way.She will roll a ball full of treats until she no longer hears it
rattle(she's smart too). She loves to cuddle and follows me
everywhere. My sister has been visiting for a month, so Bella has had
the good fortune to have had double the attention and not been left
alone for the first month of her settling in period. She is doing well with
housetraining and has had no problems with being put in her crate.
We recently had my son's 10 month old Sheltie (Devin) come to stay
for a few days.   They got along very well and loved to cuddle up and
sleep together. This scenarios will happen from time to time as we dog
sit for each other. She no longer respondes to greeting people by
rolling over on her back, she now comes forward gingerly to meet and
greet visitors. Now when she rolls over on her back she just wants her
belly rubbed. Unfortunately, Bella gets very car sick so going places
has been very limited.  We have been taking short rides and have
built up to about 10mins. This is something we will continue to work on.
We are starting classes this evening so I hope she will be able to
make the ride there. I am really enjoying having her home with me.

10/10/08 - Bella has been adopted!

9/7/08 - Miss Bella is doing really well. We have had to keep a very
close eye on her because she can get out of anything. She will climb
over fences or pens if left alone. As long as she is with us she doesn't
even try. She is really in love with me. She would be a great best
friend/cuddle bug for someone. She does great with other dogs and
meet a big boxer this weekend. She loved to run around and play with
him. When first meeting a dog or person she is a little nervous and
does role over on her back or puts her head down. She listens to you
when you tell to stop doing something I'm really impressed with that.
None of the other dogs ever listen to me. :)

8/20/08 - Miss Bella came to us this weekend from the south. She was
a stray from the side of the highway. She was a little timid and nervous
at first. We let her have her time and she came around quickly. She
got along great with all the other dogs right away. She just wants to be
loved patted and played with al the time. This little girl loves toys. She
is very funny to watch push toys around with her nose throw them in
the air and roll around on her back. She has tried to chew at a few
things but listen when we tell her no.

Her markings are really adorable. She has black spots in her white
spots on top and brown spots on her feet. She is the perfect mix of a
beagle and a daschund. I think she is really cute. She has tendencies
of both breeds. She does not favor me or my husband she wants both
of us to give her all of our attention. We have had a lot of dogs that
obviously favor a man or a woman. I have really enjoyed this little girl
very much since she got her and hope that she finds the perfect family.
