MILDRED
UPDATE 7/3/08 -   Millie is settling in better everyday. We walk 3 times a day. Our obedience trainer
feels its helping with Millie issues with other dogs. She trys to play with Zeus but  he got hurt when
Millie jumped up and came down on his back legs. Zeus has arthritis, the vet said to increase his meds
for awhile. Its been 3 weeks Zeus is doing better but hes afraid of Millie. We play with her in the back
yard without Zeus. She is so lovable, her engery level is on high speed most of the time. Obedience
training is going great she has had training before. She has issues with other dogs in class, its getting
better this week was the first time she didn't try to go after them. Her trainer noticed she did better this
week in class also. I will keep you posted on how Millie is going.

UPDATE 6/6/08 - It will be a week tomorrow that Millie has been with us. If Mille is 7 I am 18
because she has more energy then my Zeus and Jessie had put together. She's up and down the stairs
inside and out running and jumping in the yard. We take her on walks, I have noticed that if another
dogs is barking at her she reacts by jumping and whining if they are fensed in. Millie we have found out
has issues waiting while her food it being prepared in the morning. If Zeus is too close her she will go
after him, luckly she hasn't hurt him she is very strong.
I took her into the doctor on Monday just for a quick checkup. He ears are good and the discharge the
doctor said was nothing to worry about. I happened to be walking Millie Tuesday and luckly Zeus
wasn't with us other wise it could have been worse. A woman had her dogs on line in her yard and lost
control of one of them he started barking jumping like crazy and came after Millie and she didn't back
down. I pulled her away. The woman said she was sorry but that her dog has dog aggression. She got a
hold of him. Millie wasn't hurt thank god. Monday we meet with Ann Marshall a dog obedience
instructor in Seneca Falls she had anopening for one more dog. We started Wedensday Millie already
shows she has had training. She was great in class with commands but she seems to have some issues
with other dogs trying to nip at them at first but seem to settle down at the end of class. She pulls alot
when walking her but I feel that will change in time. To night the people behind us has small dogs that
bark at anything and everything I find it can be to much at times but  Millie was at the fense she started
barking and showing aggression toward these dogs. I called for her to come I had to say it a couple of
time but she listened. I was pleased about that.  Over all we have some work to do but she's and good
girl, she has put a spark in Zeus and that great he's a very happy boy and she is starting to settle in.

5/31/08 - Mildred has been adopted!

5/27/08 - I know I just updated Millie a few days ago but she's had a great weekend and I feel the
need to tell the world what a WONDERFUL foster she is. Saturday afternoon I took Millie for a long
walk. She has many admirers in the neighborhood. I heard so many " Wow, you're dog is beautiful"
comments. Unfortunately none of Millie's admirers are looking to add another dog to their family. Millie
walked very nicely and she settled into a nice stride after  about the first block. We did part of the walk
loose leash walking and the rest  heeling. She is pretty darn good at heeling, I would guess she has had
some  training in the past. We also worked on sitting nicely at intersections until I  told her it was "OK"
to cross. She was a pleasure to walk. We were walking down the road when all the sudden a huge
black lab came running out (gate was left wide open). The dogs hackles were up and I honestly thought
there was going to be a rumble. The dog snuck up behind Millie and caught her totally off guard. Guess
what Millie did? She did nothing! She looked at the other dog, I yelled at him several times to go home
he walked away and so did Millie. I can't even tell you how happy I was with the way Millie handled
herself and at the same time mad as all heck that we were put in that situation.

Millie has graduated to having free run of the house with my dogs. She is wonderful with them. I would
have no reservations about her going to a home with another dog. My 3 males dogs play very rough
and Millie isn't quite sure if she wants to play with them yet. She goes running out in the middle of the
action but as soon as they come toward her she runs to the deck. The deck is apparently "safe" as none
of the dogs bother each other there. It's actually pretty funny to watch, run to the deck to take a
breather then back to rough housing.

My sister and niece, Lydia, were over on Sunday. Millie was awesome with them. My niece slept over
that night as well, Millie was one happy girl to  have an extra kid around. Sunday night we had a fire in
the fire pit in the back yard, Millie was really enjoying life. She then decided to climb up on the chair
with my niece. I will send in the pictures, it is so cute to see a boxer and her  "kid" squished in a little
chair. Lydia spent the entire day here then my sister  and parents came over for dinner. Of course
Mildred loved everyone. My father  wants to adopt her and thinks she is the best. My mother isn't quite
convinced!

We were all out in the front yard last night playing ball, Millie was watching us from the back yard. My
husband decided she wanted to come visit us.  He let her out, she came right to me when I called her.
Then we hooked  her on the run. She had a great time chasing the kids and the ball. I  got her a big  dog
toy, she ran around and jumped for it. This little girl  can jump as high as my shoulder, luckily she minds
her manners when playing and  doesn't jump on you. She was just as happy as can be, rolling around in
the  grass. When Lydia got in the car to leave Millie just stood there perfectly  still and stared at the car.
She was not happy her little girl was leaving. Of  course Lydia got out and gave Millie a few more pets,
hugs and kisses.

Millie has proven to be a great family dog. She seems to do well with  people coming/going and would
easily fit in a busier type household. She's still quiet as can be. She really only barks a little bit when she
gets excited when we are playing. Millie will definitely make a wonderful addition to your  home!

5/23/08 - I have so many GREAT things to say about Millie I don't know where to begin. I guess the
first big news to pass along is I took her to my vet who's awesome with Boxers and Millie is NOT a
super senior as the shelter had thought. He is sure she is about 7 years old, my estimate after getting to
know her was the same. She has some gray on the muzzle but it's exactly as much as my 7 year old
boxer has.  Her body condition, activity level and teeth indicate she is much younger than the shelter
estimated. She does have the typical boxer gum overgrowth (which is likely why she was estimated as
older, some vets just aren't great with the traits of the breed) and some clouding in her eyes but she is in
great health other than an ear infection. I noticed a horrible odor coming from Millie's ear which is why I
made her the appointment. She is being treated and will be free of her ear infection soon.

Millie loves (adores) everyone she meets. She is very quiet for the most part, I only her bark once
yesterday when I was playing with her. She was play bowing and bouncing around it is so cute to see
her come out of her shell. Millie is moderately active, completely housebroken and good in the crate.
She is doing well with meeting the other dogs she is not in the general population yet as 2 of my own
dogs can be idiots with meeting new fosters. My other 2 dogs accept newcomers with ease and Millie
gets along well with them. When she met one of my boxer boys after the initial sniffing Millie instantly
started licking/cleaning his face and ears. It was so cute.

My vet was pretty impressed with Millie's good nature and health. He told me several times that she is
"highly adoptable". Millie met several other dogs and people at the vet yesterday and was very friendly.
The doctor was just astounded that she was a stray and no one came to claim her. Millie will most
certainly make a lucky family very happy! Millie is eating well and seems to be enjoying her stay here.
As I type Mildred and my 5 year old son are lying on the couch together. She is so cute, she lays down
and crosses her front paws. She is such a great girl, more updates and pics coming soon!

5/18/08 - SCBR's newest senior boxer made her way to me about an hourago. Many  thanks
to Kristen and Jeri for giving up their Sunday to get her into rescue.  Kristen started calling her Mildred
because she's "a little old lady" and I have to say the name stuck, Jeri was calling her Mildred too. I
took one look at her and knew it was the prefect name! I find my self calling her Millie as well so  I'm
sure in a few days she will answer to either.

Mildred was a stray to a shelter we work with. We're unsure  of her age as of right now. The shelter
originally said 12, but the shelter vet estimated her at 10 years old. She in very good physical condition,
muscular and agile. She will be with me for a little while until we evaluate her to  send
her to a long term foster home. Unfortunately whether Millie is 8, 10  or 12 years old most people will
overlook her for adoption simply because  of her age. I will have my vet who is experienced with
boxers take a peek at her  and tell me what he thinks.

Mildred is checking out her new home, she has gotten herself a drink, had a  snack and explored the
yard. She has met my dogs through the gate without any problems. It will be a few days before we do
one on one introductions. She is nervous and unsure of what is going on. She has taken the role of
being my new  best friend. She comes and sits right next to me and climbs on my lap to give kisses. As
soon as I leave the family room where she is gated she jumps on  the gate looks for me and cries. Right
now her foster dad is sitting with her so  she is quiet as can be. I'm sure in a few days she will
accept separation, she  has been at the shelter since early May so she hasn't had the human
contact a  boxer needs in awhile.

Millie met my son for a few minutes and instantly started wiggling, gave  him kisses and laid down by his
side. She is a really adorable little girl. I  can't believe no one claimed her!  More updates coming as we
get to know Mildred better!

5/17/08 - Here's a pic of the pretty senior girl that we need a long term foster home for. She is being
spay on Friday and needs a place ASAP. She's very friendly and doesn't seem to mind the other dogs
housed next to her at the shelter. Shelter is going to do some one on one intros with other dogs for us to
see how she reacts.  She was a stray, beautiful brindle, approximately 12 years old.
