5/13/08 - Madison has been returned to rescue. We picked her up in New Jersey today and brought
her back to her original home in Maine. She wasn't getting along with the other dog in the house, so her
adoptive parents had no choice but to give her back so that we could find her a home without other
dogs. She is still so obedient and sweet with people, she just doesn't want to share her people with
other dogs, it seems. If you are someone who is looking for a true pal, and only choses to have one
dog, you will love Madison. She is such a devoted girl and just wants to be close to her people. She
absolutely adores children and spent much of the 7 hour drive back to Maine yesterday with her head
on our 10 year old grandson's lap. She will stay with us until the right forever home is found for her. We
don't want her to have to make any more adjustments  then necessary. She is fitting right back in here
and it almost seems like she had never been gone. She really deserves the best forever home we can
find. I will have her at the BRAD's this weekend in Brunswick and Topsham, ME if you are interested
in meeting her.

UPDATE 12/10/07 - Maddie-Girl has settled in just fine.  She's the sweetest, most calm girl and has
gotten along quite well with our white boxer, Polo.  They eat, drink, play and sleep together and enjoy
each other's company.  She is such a lady and so quiet, sometimes you don't even know she's in the
same room with you, until she passes gas!
It seems it will take her awhile to get uesd to us, however.  As much as we love her, she just cannot
seem to look us in the face or eyes and this is disturbing to us.  I guess prior to Robin and Mike, she
was really abused and is having a hard time with this.  But we continue to hope that after some time
passes, she can learn to trust us and love us just as much as we do her.
We bought Madison a christmas stocking, hung it over our fireplace and will fill it with treats for the
holiday...

11/07 - Madison has been adopted!

11/19/07 - Miss Madison is doing well and waiting patiently for someone to take her home for the
holidays. I know she senses something is going on and I talk to her and tell her that we are looking for
the perfect home for her and will find someone that will love her just as much as we do. She is a real
sweetie and it is going to be so difficult to have her leave.  I have been keeping Maddie and Mia
seperated and that is not fun, but it is necessary to keep them both safe. We have been using the crates
and baby gates alot. Mia is crated during the day when we are not home and Madison is crated in our
room at night, which she does very well with. I am not in a hurry for her to leave, but I know the sooner
the better for her to get readjusted to her new forever home. She has been very healthy and doing great
for the past several months. When we first got her she had some issues with loose stools and we
changed her dog food and found that made a difference. We changed from a chicken based dry food to
lamb. She has been fine with that and has a great appetite.  Also, it might have just been the stress of
coming into rescue and the adjustment period when she got here. She also had a lump removed that she
came into rescue with last January, but we wanted it off before it grew larger and to make sure there
wasn't a problem with it. It was fine and our vet said it was just a cyst. She also has had her lyme
preventative shots and is all set with that, too. She had initially tested positive for lyme, but was on three
weeks of antibiotics. This was all when she first came into rescue a year ago. She appears to be in very
good health now and is doing great. She has plenty of playful energy and loves to run and play outside.
She can also be a very cuddly, sweet girl and loves to be petted. She will make some family very happy
as she is so loving and deserves a wonderful loving forever home.

11/11/07 - We have had to make a very difficult decision to let Madison go to another home. I am in
tears as I type this as I don't want this to happen but she and our other female dog are just not getting
along. We love her with all our hearts and want her to find the best forever home possible. We were
hoping that we were going to be her forever home, but it is just not going to work that way. She gets
along great with our male boxer and our daughter's miniature schnauzer.

Madison is a petite adorable brindle girl with natural ears and a docked tail. She was said to be about 6
when we got her last year, but our other two dogs are 7 and 8 and Madison seems much younger then
them. She is more like a 4 year old in looks and activity level, but since we don't know her date of birth
someone guessed her at 6 before she came in to rescue. I can't help doubting that she is that old, but
there is no way to prove it. She absolutely loves children and is so happy when our three grandchildren
are here. She is great with them and stays with them all the time inside and outside the house. She is a
very gentle dog and never jumps and hardly ever barks. She is completely housetrained and has been
very good at holding it while we are away all day. She has been a good girl and that is why it is so tough
to let her go.  Please consider Madison if you are looking to adopt a dog. Take a look at her pictures
and her beautiful, sweet face. You will fall in love with her. She would make you very happy if you can
give her a loving forever home.

UPDATE 6/15/07 -   Madison is doing quite well in her forever home. She is quite a high spirited girl
with more energy then we have seen in our home in quite awhile! She had a schedule before she came
to us and expects us to follow that even after 6 months. She must have gotten up at 6:30 every day
because she wakes up and jumps off the bed at that time and cries relentlessly until we get up and take
her out and feed her breakfast. We don't need an alarm clock anymore. She tested positive for Lyme
when we got her, so she needed antibiotics for a few weeks and then we had a cyst removed from her
side. She also had alot of bowel issues, and the poor girl would hold it as best she could in the house
with few accidents. We changed her diet, found that chicken seemed to cause this problem, and after
settling in here and a more agreeable food she is doing much better. We are grateful to SCBR for
bringing her into our home and lives. Madison is a great girl and we love her very much.

UPDATE 2/23/07 -  Madison is doing great in her forever home. She has adjusted well and seems to
be living the good life. She listens well and has been fun to take to obedience class. She has been a
character there and is the energetic dog of the bunch. They cannot believe she is over six because she
looks and acts younger. She will graduate tomorrow! She does have a few problems with other dogs,
but we are working on that and will continue to take her to classes on Thursday nights when we can
drop in as often as we want to get her used to being around different dogs. She does great with our
boxer boy, Mugsie, but he is very layed back and easy for anyone to get along with. We are all happy
that Madison found her way to our home!

UPDATE 1/6/07 - Madison is doing great. She is a happy, energetic, smart dog. We love having her
here. She gets along well with Mugsie our SCBR boy. She loves toys and usually tries to get them away
from Mugs. He isn't used to that, but mostly he just backs down and lets her have it. He is too nice and
doesn't stand his grown with her. She has a growth on her side that is going to be removed next week,
it looks like a big skin tag or an extra nipple. The vet said it should be taken off as it does get irritated.
She still tested positive for Lyme disease. The meds didn't seem to work, but the vet gave her the first
shot anyway and said she should be negative when he tests in the spring. Also, Madison has very loose
stools and we are trying to find out what the cause is. She doesn't have accidents in the house and it
doesn't seem to bother her. We will try all that we can to alleviate that problem, changing diet, food
additives or supplements, etc. Whatever works. It makes it very difficult to clean up after her outside.
Obedience classes are scheduled for Jan 20 at the AWS in Kennebunk. I am very much looking
forward to going there again with a dog, especially Madison, as she is so eager to please and loves
treats. It should be fun!

12/8/06 - Madison was adopted!

12/7/06 - Madison had her vet appt this afternoon. She had her shots, and when the vet tests for
heartworm, it also tests for Lyme and she showed positive. Heartworm was negative, thank goodness.
He said that most likely she just has the antibodies from being bitten by a deer tic and gave me meds to
give her for 21 days and then she needs a follow up and to be vaccinated for Lyme. He also said that
she has a spay scar, which he is quite sure of and that she has no mammory development, so that
should confirm that she was spayed and didn't mature in that way. He said her age could be about 6, as
we were told.

12/4/06 - Madison has been with us for two days now. She is a really good girl and is doing very well
here. She seems to be completely housebroken and has only had one accident in the house, which was
my fault when I stopped to do something else when I was taking her out the first day she was here. She
seems to not have been crated previously and really got upset the first night and barked and cried alot.
She is so smart, though, and doing much better as she learns that she gets to come out and play alot and
get lots of treats. She goes in easily for a treat also. We introduced her and our very good natured
boxer boy, Mugsie, and they are doing quite well together. She was playing with one of his Cuz,
squeeky toys and running around and around and he was watching her so amused. She kept bumping
him trying to get him to play with her. She is eating well today and let me know by sitting in front of the
counter with the bowls and staring up at them that she was ready for dinner. Madison is one terrific
boxer girl who anyone would be lucky to have as a member of their family.

12/2/06 - We have an adorable new guest here at the Homeward Bound Boxer Haven. Her name is
Madison and she is a rather petite and pretty little boxer girl. She did pretty well on her transport, was a
little anxious (who wouldn't be with all the changes she has gone through lately), but settled down after a
short time. Thank you to everyone who helped to get her to Maine to her foster home. I know that
Madison appreciates being in a nice, warm, cozy foster home for the holiday season instead of a
shelter. I am not sure of the details of her surrender and will try to find out more info and pass it along
as soon as I do. I do know that she is a very sweet girl and will be a great companion and pal to
someone who will give her some loving care. We will get
some pictures up in a day or two, also, so you can see what a cutie pie she is.
