LAILA
5/5/08 - Reports came in from Laila's tumor removal, and she is perfectly healthy.  The mass was benign, being caused by trauma to the joint as a pup, the Vet's guess.  It will not resurface or cause any further issues for her.  She continues to blossom here and i know it won't be long before I hear from her new family.  Until then she is more than welcome here, snuggling up in my pekingese's puppy bed (just picture that)...

5/3/08 -
Laila has been with us for a little while now and we finally think we have her figured out!  I have gotten her weight up a bit and hope to add another 2-3 lbs.  She is very bonded to my 8 year old son and she hopes to have kids in her new family-  she lives for them!  I have a 3 year old daughter whom she does well with also, I just have to watch her as she occasionally may jump or decide to plow into her for hugs and playtime.   She loves to play with my schnauzer, but plays rough, so I don't recommend her being placed with dogs under 20-25 lbs.  Still, NO CATS for Miss Laila!

She is crate trained and will go into it with no trouble.  I thought she was house trained until today, when I caught her cleaning up her own accident as to not get caught.  I don't think it has happened any other time, she usually goes to the door and waits to go out.  She knows and follows her basic commands and is still trying hard to walk nice on a leash.

Her first few days here she was wild, so much boxer energy!  Plenty of exercise has settled her right down and she has become a wonderful family dog.  Laila's biopsy from her removed leg mass is due this week, I will write an update for her at that time!

4/27/08 -
Laila is starting to feel much better now, 2 full days after her surgery.  She isn't limping anymore but we are using steroid spray to keep her from scratching it so much.  She is the sweetest dog ever, and has found that when you don't feel good, it is best to get in bed with her human foster brother and snore the pain away- all night!  The two of them sound like chainsaws!  I can bring her in to remove her stitches in 10 days, and we wait for her forever family to call.  I may have to hide her.  Not so sure I want to see her go.....

4/21/08 -
Laila has become very comfortable with us now,  and has started to show us some of her not so favorable habits. She is no longer doing well with my cats.  Where she used to just chase them, she now charges them and has attempted to wrestle one of them down and is not easily called off of them.  I don't think she means to hurt it, but I can't be sure, and to avoid stress to your cats, and to her, she should be placed WITHOUT them.  She is also a bit too rough of a player for my toy dog(12 lbs), but plays great with my medium sized dog( 20 lbs).    Laila is all puppy, and we are working on teaching her that we aren't her toys.  She likes to tackle my 3 yr old daughter to the ground and lick her to death, which isn't appropriate and we are working on this.    She will definately need a crate when left alone.  I leave her gated in the kitchen for 5-10 minutes every so often to test her, and she usually grabs the paper towels and runs around the kitchen, or tips the garbage.

Laila loves nothing more than running in her yard chasing frisbies, or laying on the doggie bed(toy breed size!!) belly up for a rub from whomever can give one!  She is a smart and happy girl and should have no problem growing out of her "big lug" stage, with a little help of course!

4/16/08 -
Laila has become quite comfortable in her foster home.  When she first arrived she was very lost, and wasn't thrilled with the cats, dogs, or my children, she just wanted to be alone.  She spent Sunday in hiding with me, and Monday and Tuesday morning in her crate, nice and quiet, coming out only to eat and for walks, happily going back in.  All of a sudden Tuesday afternoon, she barked, which was a first, and it was all changed from there!  She was a happy girl again wiggling all over and excited to greet everyone.

Laila does great with my dogs and is working on "playing gentle" with my pekingese.  She loves the children, and loves to chase the cats, although she has no intention of hurting them.  She has a harness that is helping her to learn leash walking and she is doing beautifully.  She has not had an accident in the house as of yet.  She doesn't chew anything but her toys, and is the perfect house guest.

Laila will have surgery to remove a mass on her front leg, after that she's ready for her new family!

4/14/08 -
Laila was quiet and sweet overnite with no accidents in her crate. She met my 8 year old son and greeted him nicely. I found that she has a fondness for glazed donut holes(oops) and riding with her head out the window. Her weight was incorrect, her owner gave me 43 lbs, when actually she only weighs 32, and needs to hit 38-40, I think, to be at a healthy weight. Vet tomorrow to check tumor, I will send pics and an
updated top box when she meets my dogs and cats.

4/13/08 -
Laila arrived today, very unsure of what is going on. She is little, only about 40-45lbs, and is a wild girl! She is relaxing in her crate right now, trying to take it all in, and is not appreciative of the cats, or the idea of little dogs yet, either. Hopefully in a couple days they can properly meet. More to come!
