LACEY MAE
NOTE ** Because I am still a baby, I will only be placed in a home where someone is home often, such as
retired, work at home, work opposite shifts, stay at home parents, etc.

UPDATE 11/15/09 - I am so sorry to be late for Lacey's 1-year update.
She's a fully-integrated member of the family.  I don't know what we'd do without her!  Our toddler son
absolutely adores her and she's so patient and sweet with him.  Her name was one of his very first
words.  She practically goes everywhere with us.  She's fantastic in the car and curls up and sleeps for
most of the ride.  She gets at least 2 long walks in a dog park every week and she's the first dog I've
ever had that I trust to always behave around other dogs.  It's all about having fun and chasing for her.
She's a beautiful athlete and we just love to watch her run.  In addition to her 2 long walks, she loves to
play frisbee or "chuck it" every day, and she gets at least a hour or two of these activities in the
mornings.  This is one of the benefits of being a stay-at-home mom.
I was telling my husband the other day that I have a feeling Lacey is going to be that one dog that
everyone hopes to have in a lifetime that is their "best dog ever!".  I'm just so glad she's the one our son
(and soon, our daughter) will be growing up with.

UPDATE 1/21/09 - 6-month update for Lacey Mae:
Lacey is continuing to do very well here.  She is a gift to us every day as she brings much joy to all
members of the household.  She is so sweet and so amazingly wonderful with our 20-month-old son.
Of the two grownups and one toddler in our family, I believe the toddler is her favorite.  The two of
them spend all day together playing and generally making a mess of all of the toys.  Their favorite game
is hide-and-seek where Nate (the toddler) throws a blanket over Lacey, covering her, and she walks
around with the blanket on while he tries to pull it off and laughs hysterically.  I often find Nate snuggling
with her while she licks his hair.  You ought to see some of the crazy hairdos that result!
As for her health, all is well.  She went to the vet the other day for her rabies vaccination and I was told
AGAIN how lovely and gentle and sweet she is.   Nobody at the clinic can imagine how such a beautiful
dog could have been given up by anyone.  I can tell you, it won't happen again.
Lacey received a beautiful fleece coat from her Grandmother for Christmas.  She needs it too, here in
Maine.  She thinks she's very special when we put in on her, but then she goes out in the yard and tries
to dispense of it.  I usually have to retrieve it from the yard, covered in snow and saliva.  It makes a very
fun play toy.
I had to call the guy to come a fix our satellite TV about a month ago because we weren't getting any
signal.  After much troubleshooting, he came into the house grinning, carrying a piece of chewed up
cable.  Seems that Lacey had a nice time working on it, and we had to go out and bury the new cable to
keep it away from her.  Perhaps she was letting us know that we are spending too much time watching
TV and not enough playing frisbee with her.
We absolutely love her and are so grateful to have her.

UPDATE 11/5/08 - Lacey Mae graduated from obedience class.  It was really interesting because our
girl is not treat motivated, like the other dogs were.  She actually likes praise much better.  The clicker
training was fun to learn and I think we will keep up with it.
She's still doing great!  We completely adore her.  It is essential for all of us that she get exercised daily,
otherwise, she tends to do some destroying.  I'm curious, does anyone have a suggestions for cold
weather activities?  Lacey Mae is so lightly haired that I don't know how she'll do outside in really cold
weather (for frisbee or walks).
We just recently discovered that Lacey is an amazing jumper.  We learned this because she has decided
to jump over the baby gates spread throughout the house.  It takes her no effort at all!  Luckily, we
completely trust her with the baby so it doesn't bother us that she joins him whenever she wants.  I can
tell you that I thought I was crazy for the first few days when I would find her in areas that I was pretty
sure I had gated off.  She jumps over with so little effort that she makes no sound.  Is this jumping
behavior a Boxer characteristic?
Thanks for the best dog we've ever had.

UPDATE 9/12/08 -  Two-month update:
We really love Lacey Mae.  She is doing so well and seems to be so happy and well-adjusted.  She
gets exercise every day which she really enjoys.  Frisbee is the favorite, although, she also enjoys
frolicking at a dog park twice a week.  At the dog park, she swims in a lake and gets to romp with
other dogs.  She gets along great with everybody, and we often gets compliments on how cute and
happy she is.
We have also been in obedience training for 4 weeks.  The course we are taking specializes in clicker
training and we are very impressed with how nicely it works.  Most amazing has been the transformation
she has made from pulling hard on the leash all of the time to walking politely.  She is super smart and
one of the biggest challenges we've had in training is keeping her from getting bored with the task.  She
learns each task so quickly that she's ahead of everybody and doesn't understand why we have to keep
practicing it.  We'll be exploring other fun things we can do through training, like perhaps agility.
She has been so good for our family.  She has brought a refreshing puppy energy that motivates us to
get out with her every night.  We're off the couch and in the yard or out on hikes.  It's been wonderful
for us because we're spending less time in front of the TV and more time chatting with each other, it's
great for our old dog because it gets her moving, and the baby is just delighted by her.  We are all so
grateful to have such a fantastic doggie.

UPDATE 8/11/08 - 1-month post-adoption update:
Lacey Mae is doing beautifully in our home.  She has gained so much self confidence and loves to go
hiking in Acadia National Park and is an EXCEPTIONAL swimmer.  She gets the biggest grin on her
face as she's swimming around, any lake will do.
Lacey is also addicted to frisbee throwing.  She loves to have the frisbee thrown but isn't so great at
bringing one back.  So, Pete and I go out with 2 frisbees and toss them back and forth to her.  I have a
feeling she may have some real agility talents that we need to explore as she does some amazing
acrobatics to fetch the disc out of the air.
Speaking of jumping, I was walking with Lacey Mae out in the yard the other day, as Pete turned into
the driveway.  Lacey went bounding toward the car, leapt up on the hood and stood panting looking in
the window at Pete!  We couldn't stop laughing.
Lacey will start obedience training next week.  I'll be sure to tell you all about it in the 2-month
post-adoption update.
We love this girl.  She's amazingly patient with the baby and is a perfect fit for our house.  She is such a
sweetie!  Thank you for this gift in our lives.

7/13/08 - Lacey has been adopted!

6/20/08 - Lacey is doing great here at her foster home. We are soooooo impressed with her. She has
not had a single crate or house accident since I last gave an update. She is good about getting our
attention (whimpers) and that has helped. Lacey has a princess-personality. She likes to be entertained
much of the day. Thankfully Bishop has taken on the role as play-mate. Bishop "poops-out" fast though
and lacey walks around sulking afterwards. Lacey-mae's ideal home would be with another dog. She
just LOVES to play and wrestle "boxer-style." She has done well-enough with our cats that I feel
confident that she would do well with others also. Our cats have gotten used to retaliating when she
comes on too strong. Lacey seems unphased all their "attacks." LOL   Lacey has most of the "hard-
work" done for her puppy-hood (house training/leash walking). Yet she has so much puppy left in her
that she is practically "new." She is ready to settle into a house that will be both playful and loving. Does
this sound like you??

6/12/08 - Lacey has done very well here over the last few days. She is such a sweet heart we are just
taken by her charm and sweetness. She is friendly, but submissive to my dogs and although she wants
the cats to show her attentions she does not hound them when they ignore her. She is just an all around
wonderful little girl. She has found our stash of dog toys and seems to prefer the squeaky ones that
bounce. Lacey-mae will play fetch and will actually bring back the toys as one might hope (a rare trait in
many a dog LOL). Her French "street-mime" appearance has given her the nick name "oui-oui"
(pronounced wee-wee). Her bum just wiggles all over the place when we talk to her with a French
accent LOL. Lacey has had two accidents in her crate since she arrived. In both instances I believe I
mistook her whines to go out for whine for attention. She has done a great job of going to the door and
lingering when she has needed to go out while having free-roam in the house and there has not been one
puddle! Lacey know some basic commands; sit and shake. She is more consistent when she knows
there is a treat in your hand LOL. All in all this ones a keeper. Lacey will not be here long. If you don't
call about this gem soon, someone else will go home with your dog.

6/9/08 - Here are a few photos of Lacey. I don't think they do her justice. In person she looks looks
like a little french mime. She has two black spots under each eye that look like face makeup. She really
is the cutest thing. We are quite taken by her already. Chris already wants to keep her.

6/8/08 - I picked up Lacey-Mae tonight. She is just an itty-bitty thing.  She was friendly to me right
away and had no trouble on the ride home and seemed to enjoy the ride. Lacey was surrendered to us
by a young couple that were unable to devote enough time to her and knew that we would find her a
great home. Lacey has lived with both dogs and cats and reported got along with both. There was also
a 10 month old baby in the house and again there were no difficulties. Lacey-mae is originally from the
state of Alabama.  I will follow with pictures and more updates in a few days.
