| 3/17/08 - Jingle is like a whole new dog! She must be feeling better being free of heartworms, puppies and mastitis. Poor girl had a rough go of things but now she is acting like a puppy herself. She is such a great dog. Here's some pics. Dominic my SCBR Mutt is her best play pal, Jamie is her napping partner and Antonio is her official face cleaner :o) My boys all just adore her. 1/31/08 - Jingle is doing great. She continues to be the most lovable boxer girl. She adores everyone she meets and accepts new people coming over very happily. My neighbor came over today to meet her and the puppies. You would have thought Jingle and Luann had met before. She does do some excited jumping but settles down after a little while. The jumping is about her only bad habit. She doesn't chew, isn't destructive, is quiet and calm. Jingle seems to enjoy the company of other dogs. She was introduced to my crew and within minutes was laying on the couch with my SCBR boy, Jamie and licking/cleaning his face. She does however need to be fed separately from the other dogs. She will grumble at them even through a crate/gate if she is eating. Once she has eaten her meal she goes back to her normal happy self. Jingle shows absolutely NO food aggression towards humans. I have moved her bowl, put my hand in it and taken the bowl away while she is eating she never has had any reaction what so ever. Jingle completely adores my kids. As a matter of fact her little world seems to revolve around them. She will most definitely be happy in a home with children and could easily be adopted to a home with a lot of people coming & going. Jingle probably won't be ready for adoption for about 2 months but don't let that hold you back. She is well worth the wait! 1/20/08 - Jingle has another "baby" apparently 3 puppies aren't enough so she has taken to mothering this little yellow latex dog toy (it's so small it was Bongo's). So we call this one "Yellow Puppy" and for some reason she is very protective of "Yellow Puppy" but not the real ones. We've been laughing for 2 days. She even carries Yellow Puppy outside when she goes out to do her business, takes it on the couch with her and makes sure he/she is under her to nurse. If "Yellow Puppy" happens to squeak she goes into a panic and promptly checks to make sure it is OK. Here's some pics of Jingle and her bonus baby..... 1/5/08 - 2 weeks ago I realized despite Jingle eating a ton the only thing that seemed to be expanding was her belly. After several days of denial I finally came to grips with the fact she was pregnant. (silly vet thought she was going into heat). Yesterday Jingle became the proud momma of 3 adorable, fat little boys. Big sigh of relief since we started her heartworm treatment not knowing she was pregnant. Below are pics of the boys. Everyone is doing well and Jingle is an awesome momma. 12/12/07 - Jingle went to see my favorite Boxer Doctor today. She got a clean bill of health other than being heartworm positive and needing treatment. Jingle was a real good girl in the waiting room. We working on sitting and staying while we were waiting for our turn. She did extremely well especially considering all the smells and distractions. There was a big black cat on the other side of the room walking along the bench near his owner. Jingle showed slight interest in the kitty, mostly sniffing the air with her nub wiggling. Every time someone came in Jingle got super excited and started doing the Boxer wiggle. I had to break the bad news to her that they weren't coming into the office to see her! When it was our turn there was a big Golden at the front desk. The owner accidentally dropped his leash and he was hot on Jingle's tail (errr, rear end!) she handled it like a lady and picked up the pace and ignored him when I told her to until we got safely into the exam room. Jingle is estimated to be 3-4 years old. A bit older than the shelter thought but given the condition of her teeth ( mild tartar & missing a few front bottom teeth) and her body condition (obviously having numerous heat cycles) he felt she was a bit older. I'd have to say I agree as she is very laid back which any Boxer owner will tell you only comes with age! The vet commented on what a nice dog she is and gave her a physical. Her heartworm is not very advanced as there were no murmurs present and she is not showing any symptoms. The Doctor had to order some meds for her and she will likely get started on her treatment on Monday. She's also coming into heat so a quick trip to the store was made for a doggie diaper. I'm absolutely dreading this but should consider it good timing since all my dogs are neutered. If it was a few weeks earlier when she was "on the run" it likely would have resulted in an unwanted litter. We've been introducing Jingle to the other dogs slowly. She's doing very well. I just don't think she is confident enough to handle my 4 dogs all at once. One thing for certain is that she does not like the other dogs anywhere near her when she is eating, even when she is eating in the crate. I can take her bowl away, put my hand in it etc. she just feels the need to guard her food from the other dogs. She's so thin I can't say I can't say I blame her. Hopefully she will learn she will NEVER go hungry again. Jingle is one of the most loving dogs. She is so happy to just be with us, she's even happier when she is given the chance to lay on our lap. She is kind and gentle with adults and kids alike. She is really going to make someone a wonderful companion. 12/4/07 - Jingle has been here a few days now and we have gotten to know her a bit better. She is settling into the routine and is being a very good girl. She does much better in the crate now, no barking, whining or fussing. Luckily a few days of "tough love" cured her of that. As soon as she realized her behavior didn't work to get let out of the crate she gave up the fight. She loves my kids (5 &12) her little nubs wiggles like crazy as soon as she hears them. The first day she was here she was gated in the family room with me, she heard my sons voice from another room and busted out into a kidney bean dance. It was pretty funny that she was so happy to hear a little one. Her second day here she was much more relaxed she rolled around on the area rug with a big smile on her face. If Jingle could talk I'd bet she would be saying how happy she is to have people who love her again. Jingle does have a mild case of kennel cough and some very loose stool. I've switched her to a bland diet for now to see if that helps and will see what the vet wants to do. In her pictures she doesn't look too thin but she is very underweight (guess the saying that the camera adds 10 pounds is true!) Poor Jingle does not have any weight to spare. Her spine, rib and hip bones are very prominent. Jingle is having some accidents but I think it is because her stomach is upset and she doesn't have enough time to signal us that she has to go out. Jingle is a very quiet dog, doesn't bark when someone comes in and is happy to see everyone. When she hears a noise she does the head tilt and gets the silliest expression on her face. She looks so serious trying to figure out what the noise is. Jingle seems a bit more relaxed with the other dogs now (meeting through the crate/gate only). She has deep scabby wounds on both her ears that look like they could be from another dog. Being a stray my guess is she came across some no so friendly doggies so her guard is up right now. I'm sure not feeling well doesn't help any either. I'm off to make some Chicken and Rice for Miss Jingle I hope she's feeling better soon. 11/28/07 - Just in time for Christmas little Miss Jingle has made her way into SCBR. Jingle was picked up as a stray in Ohio and was at the pound for several weeks. A family came along to adopt her, at that point she was vetted and found to be heartworm positive. Needless to say rescue was her only hope at that point. Yesterday was Jingle's lucky day, the shelter called a boxer lover/rescuer here in NY that just happened to be going to Ohio today and driving right past the shelter. I was trying to take a short fostering break but couldn't let Jingle suffer a horrible fate so here she is! Jingle is a pretty dark brindle girl, a little white on her chest/paws. She's very thin and needs to gain a few pounds. She had a few treats upon arrival and showed me that she sits very nicely on command and gives "paw" when asked. She was on my lap within seconds of arrival (typical boxer!). She's only met the other dogs through the crate/gate and seems nervous. She will be given sometime to settle in before meeting the resident dogs. She ate a great dinner, did her business outside then we put her into the crate for a rest. She did some barking/whining but now she's as quiet as can be. Jingle will need to be treated for heartworm then spay prior to adoption unfortunately she's probably won't be ready for her forever home for 6-8 weeks or so. More updates coming as we get to know her better.. |
