IVAN
NOTE ** Because I am still a baby, I will only be placed in a home where someone is home often, such as
retired, work at home, work opposite shifts, stay at home parents, etc.

UPDATE 5/12/08 -   Ivan continues to become more at home around my house. We had a couple
weeks were he was going number 1 in the house. It turned out he was suffering from a UTI. He recived
all his meds and has been a dream since.
He roams the yard without leaving it and runs like crazy with my other boxer (Maggie). They really
enjoy each others company. I gave them a soccer ball yesterday and they really would like to stay out
there all day long now. One thing is for sure, his leg dosn't slow him down one bit!
He continues to be great with everyone he meets and minds my wife and I very well. I could not ask for
more with him.

UPDATE 4/8/08 -   Ivan has adjusted to our home better than we even expected. He and my 1 1/2 old
female boxer have become inseperable. The snow has now melted and this past Saturday was warm
enough for me to get in the yard to do some work around the house. They both played and ran in the
yard for 3 hours. At no time did he try to leave the yard even with the dog across the street playing and
barking at him. He just ran and ran all day long. What a good boy!
His temperment has been amazing. He is full of kisses for my wife and I as well as anyone who comes
to the house to visit him. He is very smart! Since arriving he has learned sit, stay, lay down and heel. It's
only been a month!!! He is able to spend 8hr work days in the house without being crated and no
accidents or chewing. He minds both my wife and I whenever we call him no matter what seems to be
going on around him.
He is now current on rabbies, lime and temperment. The small patch of localized mange has cleared up
as well and the fur is growing back. He is a all around joy and my wife and I enjoy him a ton. The 8hr
drive was worth it for us.

3/7/08 - Ivan has been adopted!

2-16-08 - Ivan has been here for 10 weeks now. He has made "parole" LOL, and is now able to have
free reign of the house. And boy is he making up for lost time. Ivan has been sleeping out of his crate at
night for the last week and let me tell you it has made a world of difference! Ivan has had next to no
accidents in the house. In fact the only ones he does have are when we put him in his crate. Ivan
DESPISES the crate (He will bark loudly and pee while staring at you as if to say, "Hah there you
deserved that!"). I don't think he will be a crate dog in his forever home. It does not matter what we
have tried, Ivan just wants to be with his people when they are home! When we leave the house he has
been okay in the crate for several hours with no accidents. Like I said I think he pee's most often to tell
us he's NOT HAPPY to be separated from us when we are in the house.

Ivan has continued to be mindful of the boundaries of the two free roaming dogs in the house and he
can now watch as the cats walk by him some of the time (the cats are still big teasers). Ivan has found
my son to be a true comrade when it comes to playing and horsing around. They get along so well it is
amazing. I don't know who gets more tired out by whom. If we could adopt our foster dogs Ivan would
have been ours weeks ago for that reason alone.

Ivan is an A#1 dog. He has done is healing. Now he is looking for a family that has lots of energy and
time to play. Like I stated earlier, Ivan is not fond of crating but I believe, that with another older canine
friend at home to show him the ropes,he will do well being left unattended.

1/29/08 - Ivan is continuing his recuperation here at the Downeast Doggie Den. On advice from Leann
we are giving him brief reprisals from his crate in hopes of alleviating some of his pent-up energy. So far
it seems to be working. Although he goes "bananas" for a brief period of time, he does mellow quickly
(for a puppy). While out he continues to show an interest in playing "seek" for our cats who continue to
antagonize him every minute they get. We think Ivan will be fine with cats, however the cats will have to
be strong willed in nature as ours are, to keep Ivan in line.

Since Ivan has been getting his mini-breaks, we have found that he is having less accidents once placed
back in his crate. This leads me to believe that Ivan is acting out his boredom and frustration more than
anything else. As Ivan gets more free time we hope to see his crate accidents disappear all together. As
it stands they have been occurring at a rate of about once every day and a half. This is in part due to the
fact that Ivan is now very good at letting me know when he has to go NOW!!!! (I am also getting
quicker with my response time LOL.)

Ivan is very affectionate with all of my family. He leans on anyone (human or dog) that will stand still
long enough. He loves to play with my son, unfortunately this usually leads to him having to be put back
into his crate (at least for now while he continues to heal.) Ivan LOVES squeaky toys and will carry
them around trying to get anyone to play with him. For this reason we have continued to keep Maizy
separated from him (she is a play-maniac.) Ivan is also a big love on the couch. (Good for 30
min.shows still to antsy for full length movies. Remember he's just a puppy. LOL)

Ivan is a great natured dog; good with dogs, cats and kids. He is still very much a puppy, don't let his
size fool you. He is everything that a family dog should be.

1/5/08- Ivan continues to bide his time in solitary here, although he voices his opinion often that he
wants OUT!!! As long as the house is quiet he is usually the same. Ivan continues to eat as if he is
starving, but I am happy to report that some of his more "sharp edges" are starting to get softer.
However I don't have a current weight. Ivan is due to head back to the Vet soon to get some of his
hardware removed from his leg. The leg is still tender. Ivan uses it sparingly. When he eats, he holds his
leg just off the floor. Despite all this he does not think twice about it when he is happy/excited. We
continue to have trouble keeping him calm. Every exit from the crate is cause for celebration!

Ivan has good and bad days with his crate training. This experience has been tough on him and he has
been in consistent about giving signals when he needs to go. We walk him regularly, but if "nature calls"
in between he will only bark after the fact. Most night we have found that he will go all night without
being walked, but if I hear stand up in his crate at 2am, it is a race to get to him before an accident
takes place. Good thing I'm a light sleeper. LOL.

Our neighbor has met Ivan during his potty breaks, along with a few family friends. Everyone is smitten
with him immediately. Once this guy is healed, he will be an A#1 pet. The family to get him will be lucky
indeed.

12-18-07 - Ivan went to the vet today to get his staples out. Thanks to the Maine Coast Vet Hospital
for seeing him as a "freebie" today. Ivan was a complete gentleman. The staff loved him. he got extra
love from the paint crew that was there redoing the front room. I think Ivan's favorite part was the
heated seats on the drive to and from the office. Ivan actually had to be prodded to get up to go back
inside our draft house. Ivan's current weight is 52.8 lbs. I don't know what he was before, but I can tell
he has been putting on some needed padding. Ivan eats whenever he is out of his crate and food is
presented to him. he eats as if it is his first meal in months. He eats with two of my other dogs when they
are fed. Ivan wanders from one dish to another before settling on one bowl. Bishop and Peggy seem to
sense food deprivation and are patient. I have had to stop Ivan from eating more than his share of food
for fear that he will get sick. Ivan has shown no aggression when being taken away from food. He is
really the most gentle dog one could possible imagine.
It is hard to get a handle on his personality when he is in his crate most of the day. We have taken to
calling him "Crazy Ivan," (familiar only to Hunt for Red October fans). He very much wants to play with
our son and our cats. He shows no hostility to either. On occasion he has tried to play with my cats
when he has been out to be walked or fed. The cats don't help. They know he can't play and have
taken to "prancing" past him at these times to antagonize. He gives kisses and love every chance you
give him. He is such a love, his family will be blessed to have him.

12-11-07 - Ivan got here Monday night thanks to Jill's brother in-law. Ivan is great in the car, and was
such a sweetie next to my son on the ride home. Contrary to Jill's report's (LOL) Ivan has been making
a fuss every chance he gets about having to be in his crate for his mandatory R&R while he is
recovering from a broken leg. We have down sized his crate in an attempt to settle in some but he is still
resisting. If sad puppy dog faces worked in this house he'd of been a free man about five minutes after
he got here.
