HENRY
UPDATE 1/30/09 - It has been a great 6 months with Henry.  We have really got into a good rhythm.  He
was good from the beginning but we have definitely learned to communicate between ourselves much better
over time.  When I adopted him I was wondering what he would think about snow come winter.  I quickly
learned he is not a big fan of the cold or snow.  Of course we now have like 3 feet of snow so he almost
disappears in it, but it hasn’t been a big problem.  When I got Henry he had a slight obsession with food,
probably because he was so under weight when SCBR took him in, but now he isn’t so focused on food
and being fed.  Don’t get me wrong he still loves to eat and of course his treats.  He was doing really good
in his crate for a while but suddenly started having problems with peeing in there, but thanks to a couple tips
his foster mother had given me I was able to get him to stop doing it and now hasn’t had any accidents for
quite a while.  He continues to get along great with my mother’s poodle and greyhound, and I think he even
has a little crush on her greyhound.  I have been really happy with Henry.  I was skeptical about adopting a
rescue dog at first but I’m so glad I stuck it out and can’t imagine ever owning anything but rescue dogs
from now on.

UPDATE 10/31/08 - Well I've had Henry for three months now and there isn't a whole lot more to say
since my last update.  He continues to do great.  Since he has been so good at general obiedience I have
started to teach him some tricks.  He newest trick is letting a treat balance on his nose until I say it's alright to
eat it.  He has been trying to catch it in the air but hasn't been successful yet, I'm sure it wont be long
though.  With winter coming I am intersted to see how he will like the snow.  Well I like I said before
everything has been going great, I couldn't have asked for a better dog.

UPDATE 10/1/08 - Well I have had Henry for two months now and things continue to go great.  He
finished up with his dog training classes and the teacher was very impressed with him, she even used him a
few times to demonstrate to the others how certain exercises are suppose to be performed.  I also now have
adopted a cat.  Henry would try to go after the cat when I first brought him home but after working with
both of them for less than a week they get together perfectly fine, and sometimes even sleep together.  I
don't think Henry was ever exposed to cats before because he still seems to be in amazement over this new
little creature.  Henry has become very good about going into his crate when I leave for work he will actually
run downstairs and open the door by himself and get in, with the help of treats of course.  Things have been
going better than I expected and I am very happy that he is a part of my life now.

UPDATE 9/2/08 - Henry has seemed to adjust very well to his new home.  I work during the day so I put
him in his crate while I'm gone.  At first it was really hard to get him to go into his crate but now, thanks to
tips from my dog trainer he will go in there with no problem at all.  He had two accidents while I was gone
the first week but since then has not had any.  He absolutely loves to play ball and go for walks.  I have
taken him to my camp on the lake twice so far and seems to love that too, however doesn't care much about
going in the water.  I haven't noticed any health problems with Henry so far, but I do have his first vet
appointment scheduled for tomorrow.  The obedience training has been going really well, the teacher thinks
he's an all start.  It is obvious that he has had training in the past and listens very well.  Overall Henry has
been a completely joy and I already love him very much.

8/1/08 - Henry has been adopted!

7/8/08 - My friend Henry has certainly come around over these past months.  I like to say that he "got his
wiggle back" because he is showing so much happiness and joy, especially when I come home from work.  I
let him out of his crate and we all go outside.  He will bound and leap in the  air!

He gets along with my dogs fine after some incidents.  It took him some time to get used to them.  He still
does not interactively "play" much, however will partake in some sprints around the back yard with them.
Henry does  not do especially well with new dogs.  He is still unsure and demonstrates some fear
aggression.  It seems that Henry enjoys the company of other dogs as he will be the first to lay down next to
my male boxer.  I'm sure that Henry would love a forever dog brother or sister, just a non-aggressive dog
that would be slowly and carefully introduced to him.

Henry is a real sweet dog.  He is mellow and enjoys being around me while the other dogs are barking at the
dog in the yard behind me...he just couldn't be bothered.  He is content and not easily riled up.  He does
alert to noises outside and will bark occasionally.  He does not like his crate although I have been using the
D.A.P.
plug-in unit and leaving peanut butter Kongs inside. It's hit or miss...somedays he is fine when I come home
and other days, there is drool on the floor and his bedding is wet.

Henry is the best walker! I use a regular collar and he does not pull at all. He does not get excited when
other
dogs or small critters are stirring about.  He has really turned out to be a wonderful dog and I'm so excited
for
him to have another chance at life as it seems that he was not given a lot of love.

6/24/08 - Henry is doing great!  He is a sweet boy that loves to snuggle.  He listens well and walks good on
leash.  The photos of hank don't do him justice, he is a hansom dude!!  Hank would love a family to call his
own.  He is very loving and full of lots of boxer kisses.

5/31/08 - Henry has settled in fine. A few minor skirmishes with my dog but all in all he is great!  He gets
along with other dogs 98% of the time, but with a dominant dog would be a definate NO!  Henry listens well
and knows all the basic commands and he is great on leash.  I feel i would make a great addition to anyones'
home. He does need to put on a few more pounds but other than that hes ready for his forever home and
family!

5/5/08 - Henry is doing well.  He has been with me five days now.  He is filling out nicely and there are no
more issues with blood in his stool.

Although it is too early to "mark him for life".  I have decided that Henry would do best as an only dog for
now.  I have had some other dog aggression issues with him that were confirmed by  volunteers from the
shelter.  It appears as if he has had little positive socialization with other dogs.  He is unsure how to play with
them and has exhibited some unprovoked and unpredictable aggression towards my dog as well as other
dogs while at the shelter.  I am taking things very slowly with him and my dogs.  I do not allow him outside
or in the house alone, I stay with him with a collar and leash on.  There have been hours and entire days that
have gone by without incident, however I can not trust that all the dogs will be safe with him unattended.

He has been nothing but sweet with me.  He is becoming more affectionate towards me and the happy
boxer is emerging day by day.  I believe that he would do best in a house without small children.

Henry walks great on a leash and is doing well with the house training.  He does not enjoy his crate, but will
go in there with a "crate up" command and a treat-filled Kong toy.  He settles down and will
quietly stay in there at night and while I am at work. He has had an accident in his crate, however does not
regularly have problems.

Henry is a very smart and lovable boxer boy.  He knows basic commands such as "sit", "stay" and "here".
He listens to me when I tell him to "go lay down"! He is pretty calm for a younger boxer and would make a
loyal companion.

Henry will go to the vet on Tuesday (05/06) and get heartworm checked.  I will confirm with the vet that he
has been neutered.  He is up to date on all of his vaccinations.  It appears that he will be ready for his
forever family to provide him with love and some gentle assistance getting along with other dogs.

5/1/08 - Henry is a beautiful brindle boy with natural ears and a docked tail.  He demonstrated some fear
aggression to my dogs through the crate, however calmed down once I gated off the room to give him so
space to unwind and relax.  I have a feeling that with time, he will warm up to my dogs and begin to play and
enjoy family life.  He already showed some interest in toys this morning.

He was a little bit scared and withdrawn since he was stressing out after being at the shelter for weeks. He is
pretty thin and has some blood in his stool.  He ate his dinner and appears to have a great appetite.  I will
get him to the vet as soon as possible to get him checked out and up to date on his shots.  He appears to be
neutered.

He was a stray to the animal shelter, so not much is known about his history.  Henry is looking for a family
to love him and provide him with all the care he deserves!

4/30/08 - Henry is a one to two year old dog that came in as a stray. He is in good condition and knows
basic commands. He's such a handsome dog, we're floored that nobody came looking for him. He prefers
men to women, though he's not aggressive to women, he just really loves men and will choose to be with
them over women. He is fine with other dogs and has been nothing but friendly.
