GILL => Rufus
(boxer/mastiff? mix)
NOTE ** Because I am still a baby, I will only be placed in a home where someone is home often, such as
retired, work at home, work opposite shifts, stay at home parents, etc.

UPDATE 12/28/08 - Our little Rufus is still a perfect puppy. He's developed quite the personality and is a
hit everywhere we take him.
He got neutered in mid-November and recovered quickly. I don't think he ever skipped a beat - even while
recovering.
He is also a well-trained pupppy, now. He loves people and other dogs and plays well with just about
anything...animal, vegetable, or mineral.
On Thanksgiving we took him to the beach near his grandparent's house on Cape Cod...I swear he was
never more excited than he was that morning. The sand was like a new world for him...he was digging
relentlessly, tearing up and down the dunes, playing with seaweed and dancing in the water. There were two
other couples on the beach - both of whom fell in LOVE with our Rufus. We referred one of the couples to
SCBR, so hopefully they'll have a Boxer of their own soon.
As far as his health, Rufus is in tip-top shape. He's up to date with all of his vaccinations and shots, and feels
good. He's STRONG, too...looks like a little ball of muscle.
He's still sweet as anything, and cuddles up between mom and dad every night. When we're just relaxing
around the house, he sits right on mom's belly and rests his face on her chest. Too cute.
That's all for now. More updates later!

UPDATE 10/28/08 - Rufus is getting big! He got his rabies vaccine and other final puppy shots a few
weeks ago where he weighed in at 28 lbs. My little boy is growing up (tear). But he's still as cute & playful
as ever, and his tail wags non-stop. He LOVES playing with his toys - especially the peanut butter rubber
bone we got him to help with his teething. Besides that he loves his little lion toy because the mane is made
of fringe (which gets him all worked up!).
Exciting news! Rufus went swimming for the first time this weekend. The dog park we take him to is
surrounded by water on three sides and guarded by park rangers at the exit so it's a safe place to let dogs
run amok. We had him down walking by the shore and he made friends with a Retriever who took him for
his first swim! He doggie-paddled right into shore after chasing rocks for a few minutes. It was adorable!
Training is going well and we haven't had an accident in the house since my last update! He still gets chew
crazy, but is MUCH better. He actually understands what the word "no" means - and he listens to it!!
Anytime he chews on illegal objects (ahem...my shoes) we just give him a toy. He's still pretty scared of the
car, but gets more and more used to it each time. We're careful to bring him treats for the car ride and
shower him with praise.
He also figured out how to open the cabinet door where the treats are. He picks up the bag of Buddy
Biscuits and brings them to our feet now. But he doesn't get one until he earns it!
His neutering appointment is on November 12th. We're also getting him microchipped.
I hope Rufus never loses his energy and playfulness. While he can be a ball of rocketfuel half of the time, the
other half he's sleeping on my lap or licking my face! He's perfect!

UPDATE 9/29/08 - Rufus (formerly Gil!) has been such an amazing addition to our household. He LOVES
running around outside and putting up quite a chase for us! His favorite part of the backyard is the flower
garden - he lies in the Black Eyed Susans...it's the most adorable thing I've ever seen!
When he came he had quite the case of Kennel Cough but it has since cleared up completely and he has
more energy and charisma than ever! Because of the Kennel Cough, obedience schools would not take him
right away, so we started training at the house. He now sits, shakes both paws, speaks, and is getting the
hang of "come here." Most exciting, perhaps, is that when he walks with us, he stays RIGHT next to us.
Even with slack on the leash, he stays in perfect stride with both my fiance and I.
Rufus is a curious little monkey and loves to chew on about anything...now we replace whatever he's
chewing on with an organic stuffed bear. He hasn't chewed a pillow or any of my heels in over a week
now...I think he getting it. Th ecrate training has also been going well - we haven't had an accident in the
house in weeks. He's a good boy and goes right to the door when he needs to go out.
We have two home interviews with obedience trainers this week - one from Sit Means Sit and another from
American Dog Training. We also got Dr, Curtain at the Abington Animal Hospital as his vet - Dr. Curtain is
renowned in this area and has over a 3-year waiting list...but thanks to a recommendation we were able to
get Rufus right in!
Rufus has been socializing SO well with other dog and puppies. At Stodder's Neck - the local dog park -
both Rufus and I have made many friends. Yesterday he took a liking to Boxer Shar Pei mix...they played
for almost an hour while me and Corey waited in the rain.
We started him on the Canidae Chicken & Wild Rice, but he didn't seem to love it, so we switched him
over to Orijen for puppies. I've never seen him eat so well! He's a strong, muscular little boy now. Also, his
favorite treats are Peanut Butter Buddies, an all natural, soft & chewy treat. We have not let him eat any
"people food" and he never begs at the dinner table anymore!
He loves bathing. He hates the car, but we're trying to get him used to it incrementally. He sleeps in bed with
us at night and curls right up between me and Corey. He puts his head right on my belly and is asleep within
minutes of lying down.
This weekend we took Rufus to cape Cod to see his grandparents - who spoil him. We took him for long
walks on the beach and he played in the tall grass and got dirty and wet! He also loved my mom's
garden...he couldn't get enough of it all weekend.
Adopting Rufus was the best thing we ever did...he will start obedience school soon and the neutering is
close by, also. We are lucky to have found Rufus and can't imagine our home without him now!

8/31/08 - Gill has been adopted!

7/28/08 - The Finding Nemo Crew arrived earlier today from Ohio. According to their paperwork they
were surrendered to the shelter on 6/26/08 at 4 weeks old. That would make them 8 weeks old now. They
have been vaccinated (puppy vaccines and kennel cough) and dewormed several times already. The pups
are pretty big for their age. Not necessarily very tall but short, squatty, solid little babies! They look like they
have some mastiff in their heritage (both their builds and coloring). Some of the smaller pups resemble labs.
Maybe Dad was a Mastiff/Lab mix? Guess we will never know! What I do know is they are fat, friendly
and CUTE as can be. Pictures will be coming very soon. You better gets those applications in as they pretty
babies won't be around long!
