CYRUS
UPDATE 9/8/08 - I apologize for my late update - the summer has been busy and time got away from
me!
Cyrus had a great summer in Boston - meeting new dog friends, laying on the deck, and chomping on
ice cubes to keep cool.  Who knew ice could be so exciting! We've taken him on a few road trips and
he's enjoyed every new place he goes - Maine, Vermont, Connecticut and New York.  But he is
always happiest laying on the couch getting his belly rubbed :)  This will be our first Fall/Winter with
Cyrus, so we'll see how he likes the cooler New England weather.  When we first adopted him he was
57 pounds and it now at 63, which our vet said looks like the perfect weight for him.  YAY Cyrus!  We
also completed some doggy training with Cy, and he was a really good boy.
A few of his favorite things:  cheese in his kong, apples(!!), watching the squirrels on the deck, car
rides, hiking off leash, and of course SNUGGLING.

UPDATE 5/19/08 -   Cyrus has been happily adjusting to his new home.  He loves running on the
beach, snuggling on the couch, and playing with his new friend Jameson, the Great Dane.  He's quite a
helper around the house - following us around as we do laundry and gardening.  Cyrus has been
entertaining us with his wiggling about and playful ways.  We are having a hard time finding a ball that
can stand up to his marathon games of fetch though - the tennis balls last about 10 seconds.  We're
heading to Vermont with him for Memorial Day weekend so he'll get some good hiking in, and we can
see how he likes swimming in the pond up there.  As I write this, it's 8:30 PM, which means he's
already been snoring on the couch for a few minutes.  By 8 PM he's ready to put himself to bed - I
think he must have been a farmer in his previous life!

4/19/08 - Cyrus left tonight for his forever home.  A very nice couple who were happy to get him.
We will miss you little guy, take care, XOXOX

4/5/08 - Cyrus arrived at 1:30 pm.  He is very handsome.  He can afford to gain a few pounds though.
He has been very gently with all the company, including kids that have been here to greet him.  He loves
to eat his meal and treats.  I will give you updates later once he is settles in.

4/4/08 - Unfortunately Cyrus is coming back to find another home.  His family loved him but recently
found out they are having a second baby.  They did not feel they would have the time to work with
Cyrus as they have another young dog and another baby too.  They said he was great with their other
dog after the first week and also great with the baby.

2/4/08 - Great news!  Cyrus' home has talked to our behaviorist and a trainer he recommended in their
area and they were told his doggie manners are workable.  They really love Cyrus already and want to
keep him and work with him!   Good luck Cyrus & family!

1/29/08 - Unfortunately Cyrus is looking for another home already.  He is having trouble with meeting
new dogs and they have a young baby that is at the crawling stage and are worried about him getting in
the middle of something accidentally.

1/12/08 - Cyrus was adopted!

12/11/07 - Cyrus has been doing great here and is such a nice boy!  He  has got along great with my
foster boys and my boxer girl Sandi too.  Today I figured I would see what he knows for obedience
and I was shown very quickly as he did everything I asked (sit, down, paw, other paw, stay), and
without asking twice (or 3 times like Sandi!-LOL)!   Cyrus is a smart little guy!  He is very petite, only
about 55 lbs or so and has been putting on the weight nicely since he came in. He was so skinny from
stress of being at the shelter and having the tummy problems he did there, but now his bones are starting
to vanish.  He eats like a little piggy and has no stomach issues since he came into rescue.  He is great in
his crate and the house, he's just a well trained, sweet boy.  He has no issues with kids (his surrender
info to the shelter said he was good with little kids too), his only problem I can see is he does want to
have my cat J.J. for lunch! :)   So, if you do not have any kitties, you will have a wonderful companion
with Cyrus.  Don't miss out, he's ready to go home now!

12/5/07 - Cyrus arrived into rescue thanks to Kelly & Kristen for helping transport him to me!  He is a
4 year old neutered reversed brindle male boxer. Here is his background: Around mid-October Cyrus
was brought to a shelter we work with by the breeder who sold him as a puppy.  She had made Cyrus'
owner who bought him as a puppy from her agree to neuter him and if in the future bring him back if he
could no longer be cared for.  Cyrus was dropped off to her at a few months ago unneutered with a
very bad case of cherry eye in both eyes. The breeder was not able to pay for his treatment as she now
has an elderly Rotwiller with a medical condition, so she brought Cyrus to the shelter instead.

The shelter stated that Cyrus has been okay with female dogs, but the breeder who brought him in to
the shelter stated that he was not good with her elderly Rottie and she was worried. The shelter has
neutered Cyrus since then and he had surgery for his cherry eyes. The shelter tested him with cats, and
stated that he is a definite "NO" for cats based on they reaction they saw. Otherwise Cyrus is good with
people and did not show any aggression towards them when they were testing him with food, leash etc.
Cyrus has had an upset belly; on and off loose stool, which they had been trying to treat with yogurt,
pumpkin, rice, you name it. They have wormed him twice in hopes of it helping. Mostly they felt he was
probably stressed due to being at the shelter for over a month.

More updates as I get to know Cyrus!
