COBY
3/28/08 - It makes me very sad to say that Coby went to the rainbow bridge
yesterday afternoon after my daughter got home from school. After
many discussions with the vet, who also was trying some acupuncture
and chinese herbs on Coby we felt that he really was not getting any
better. He had to practically lay on the floor to eat or drink. He
was not steady on his feet and while going for his evening walks
there were times I wondered if he would make it back to the house. He
would run into the curbs, fire hydrants or whatever was out there.
In the time that he was with us we saw only 4 good days when he
actually acted like the puppy that he was. That was before the
acupunture treatments, that he went with no seizures.
All of the rest of the time he had many seizures. Anywhere from 3 to
6 per day and when he had a big one he would howl at the top of his
lungs which made me think they must have been very painful for him.
It was horrible to watch, feeling so helpless.
My daughter was crying at the vets office and when I got home layed
on his favorite couch in my office and had a good cry as well. The
vet felt that it was not epilepsy because if it were Coby would have
snapped right back out of them and acted like the puppy he was.
Instead, when he was in seizure mode he would lay on the couch and
was extremely tired.
I was afraid to move him because it seemed to set off another
seizure. I was constantly worried about his well being. It felt very
strange to get up this morning and wonder how he made it through the
night. On the way home from the vet my daughter said "mom, Coby is
happy now." God bless you Coby! We love you!!!

Coby's seizures have got worse, even though on his medicine.  He is currently at the vet's office trying alternative treatments to see if he can get better.  He is not available for adoption at this time.

3/14/08 -
Yesterday Coby had a few accidents in the house. Of course he gets immediate praise with cookies when he goes outside. Maybe he would like cheerios better, but he is down from having a drink to immediately going pee, to me taking him out every hour (which he usually goes) with much praise! He drinks about 3 to 4 bowls of water daily. Last night I picked the bowl up around 7:00 and didn't offer it again until 6:00 when I got up. Also, when I got up in the night I came down and let him out. He is very smart and learning very quickly. He loves his daily walk in the evenings and we taught him how to sit. Two full days with no seizures and he has gained his strength back and has been eating like a horse! It is wonderful to see the turn about in him. The vet said he needs a family that is willing to keep him on his med schedule which I give him one at 7:30 a.m. and one at 7:30 p.m. He thought the phenobarbital would make him very sleepy for a week to 10 days.  While Coby will sleep on the couch next to me while I work at the computer, he is right up with me to see what I am up to. This morning he even whined at the door to go out after we had already been out twice and he had a pee! We are very proud of him and just know that he will make the right family a wonderful pet!

Coby is doing great! We just took him on his first walk and he wagged his tail for the first time right before that.  Unfortunately he did pee the floor before we went outside and when we came back in, but we are working on that and he is really starting to act much more "boxer like" with his new-found kisses.  Now he is participating with the family and I guess he just needed to have some time to adjust and get close to us.  Coby is much stronger now with his medicine kicking in pretty quickly, he is finally the normal puppy 2 year old. He is so sweet! That's it for today, just thought you should know he is coming out of his shell.

3/11/08 -
Coby is currently at the vet and I just spoke with Dr. Matt who is going to put him on meds and have us watching and timing his seizures. The one he had this morning was anywhere from 3 to 5 minutes, plus a 5 second one before and another 5-10 second one while getting him to the car to see the vet. So far he has had 3 small and 1 very large seizure in a 36 hour span.  I leave work at noon and must pick the poor baby up and hopefully he can get some good rest this afternoon. He just wants love and those seizures scare him. Poor baby. More later.

3/10/08 -
Coby has arrived thanks to Debbie and all who helped out with the transport! He is a beautiful dog with a patch over his right eye. Sooo cute! For only being 2 years old he doesn't seem to act much like a puppy, other than the accidents he has had in the house! He is very mellow and so far a bit of a loner, he prefers to sleep on the couch in my office as apposed to spending time with everyone else.   Also he is very skinny and seems a bit unstable on his feet or weak. He spent the first night in the kennel and did well going in, no complaints. Went out first thing this morning and went pee for a long spell and came in for a treat with much praise.   I am off to work this morning but will get his photo and more info later this afternoon.

INFO FROM HIS OVERNIGHT FOSTER HOME:

3/10/08 - Coby is very skinny, was very quiet and sOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO cute!!   He found the crate himself and seemed to like just being left  alone.  Although he did come out for a huge drink of water and a nice long hug!!    I hope he finds a sweet, mature person that will apreciate his more "studious" demeanor.
Hopefully, once he feels secure he will come out of his shell and be more "boxer-like"!!
