CAPTAIN
UPDATE 9/5/08 - i am sad to say captains eye growth has returned again, quite rapidly. it has grown
so big that it bleeds about constently, so the vet suggests to try removing it again.i adopted captain the
very end of may, he has had sugery on his eyein july and again next week. he is an older fellow and is
VERY welll behaved, i just adore him.  i am considering adopting another dog eventually when i get
captains health issues straightened out. he just couldnt be better behaved, if he had a run in with a dog
at obedience school it could rip his eye open, it bleeds if he barely bumps it?? i am hoping you
understand how much i love him and that he will have the best home ever until he crosses the bridge!!!!

UPDATE 7/25/08 - captain is recovering well from his eye surgery, he is such a gentle loving
boy.unfortunately the growth that had come back was right full of cancer. the stitches were noy staying
in and my vet tells me this could be because the tissue surrounding the eye is not good. if it starts to
come back, my vet said the next surgery would probably mean the removal of his entire eye.i will be
saying my preyers that we got it all. he has been such a wonderful addition to my life and i hope that i
get to spend many more years with him.my vet also "assumes" that he is older than 6 as scbr had
thought he was. scbr removed the first growth on his eye, wouldnt or shouldnt there have been cancer
tests done then and how could i receive his previous records?? i had spoken with his foster mom a few
times before the 3hr ride to where he was and she had forgot to mention the growth had returned, i just
wish it had been addressed when it first returned. she was a foster to more than one dog and we had
wanted to see another dog she fostered in the beginning and she refused to let us even meet the other
dog, is that a rule of scbr, not to be able to meet any of the other fosters??

UPDATE 7/18/08 - Captian has been a perfect addition to my life. he is a wonderful dog and i just cant
say enough positive things about him.
i was disappointed when after i drove three and a half hours to get him and his foster mom had
neglected to tell me the growth was coming back on his eye.
i took him straight to the vet when i got him home and scheduled his surgery to have the growth
removed. unfortunatly with this unexpected financial set back captain has not yet started his obedience
training. his surgery was going on $400.00.captain is 6years old. has never had an accident in my
house, comes when called and is absolutely perfect. i fully entend to get his class finished, im hoping you
will bear with me, his belly is full laying in the middle of my bed in a life of luxury!! i absolutely LOVE
him.

UPDATE 5/20/08 - captain has been adopted. what alove bug he is. he has been full of boxer wiggles
and all kinds of kisses. he and lilly the cat have been getting use to each other. im not so sure he had to
much cat experience before. unfortunately the growth on his eye seems to be growing back. i will be
making a vet appointment this week and have him look it over. captain could not be any better
behaved. he seems to be settling in very quickly, seems to love walks and playing with my friends
boxers. i am so thankful to have him in my life.

5/18/08 - Captain has been adopted!

4/20/08 - Captain continues to be a fabulous guest here at the Riverview.  He has been getting lots of
exercize chasing Honeydew around the back yard and up and down the stairs.  Captain just loves
everybody, and I can see him living with another dog, male or female, or not.  Captain likes the chance
to climb into bed with his person at night, but will sleep contentedly on a dogbed in the bedroom if the
bed gets too crowded!

He doesn't misbehave in the house at all, so there has been no need for me to crate him.  Captain
figured out the doggie door very quickly, so that now that the weather is good he can come and go as
he pleases.  He is a sweetie!

3/31/08 - What a LOVE!!!  Captain is the perfect guest, and he is healing up nicely and is ready for his
forever home!  He had a great day at the BRAD In SAnford this weekend, and so enjoyed meeting all
the humans and canines he could.  He even seemed to think that he would like to meet the bunnies that
were in full view--he kept wagging his little tail at them.  I think he would be oK with cats, but I don't
know for sure.

He still loves his walks, and is great on a leash--essentially no pulling at all, whichis good because he is
a big fellow.  And he continues to impress everyone with his affable temperament.  His eye looks so
much better, and I bet it feels better, too.

Captain would like to be a nighttime 'bed dog', but is OK sleeping on a dogbed.  We haven't tried
crating him after the first few days he was here because a crate is unnecessary as he is not destructive.

We think he is a doll and are sure you will too!

3/21/08 - Handsome Captain spent the day at the Vet's for his "nip and tuck".  While under
anaesthesia, they also removed his eyelid growth, and trimmed his toenails.  Right now he is snoozing on
the carpet next to me.  I guess the surgery took alot out of him in more ways than one!  Last night he
leaped up onto my bed for a few cuddles at bedtime, but soon jumped right down again.  Just as well
because I only have a double bed, and there's not alot of extra room.  But it was lovely having a Boxer
in my bed even if only for a few minutes.
He continues to be a wonderful guest here at the Riverview, and has earned full house priveledges.  I
have to admit that since he IS so good I have not insisted on the crate, which he was not a fan of.
Post-neuter, while he needs to stay quiet, I may try him again in the crate for short periods of time while
I am not working.

3/18/08 - What a big happy lug!  Captain met everyone at our Vet's office with his long nub busily
wagging, and impressed them with his handsome physique as well as his even temperament.  Captain
was Heartworm and Lyme Disease negative, so he goes in for his neuter on Friday.  He  will have the
growth on his eyelid removed while he is under anaesthetic.  He rode beautifully in the car, and is so
relaxed about life that he laid down on the floor of the waiting room at the vet's office!

Captain and Charlotte are having fun romping in my big back yard.  I'm having fun watching them run
and chase and box with each other out there!  He puts a smile on my face.

3/16/08 - Captain is a big, happy, friendly white boy .  He arrived safely at the Riverview from a local
shelter where he was placed after his owner died.  Captain needs to be neutered, and while he is under
anaesthetia SCBR will have his eyelid growth taken care.  (His foster mom will take care of giving him a
bath.)

Captain, despite the stress of losing his owner, spending time in a shelter and then being transported to
a new home, was all wiggle butt to meet new people here and new dogs through the baby gates.  He is
so easy going that I even allowed him to meet Beau face to face and took them both for a stroll through
the neighborhood.  He does pull a little bit on the leash, but for walk number one was quite well
behaved.  Captain, like any unneutered male,  is interested in spritzing his scent, but the Riverview is
delighted to report that he is content to spritz OUTSIDE only!!  Hooray!

He was not happy to be in the crate and needed encouragement to go in, but settled down fairly nicely
for a first time.  I sat next to him an he spent about 45 minutes in it.  Now he is laying next to me as I
type this in the family room.  We are already in love with this big lug!
