UPDATE 6/24/08 - Well we have had Buddy for 1 month! He is doing great. Sam is warming up to
him a little. He actually played a little "tug" with him last night for the first time. It's much more fun when
Buddy isn't nipping Sam's legs or behind.
I'm still waiting for the obience director to call back for an available Saturday.
We went to our vet last week and he is a healthy 68.5 pounds. He had an yeast infection in both ears
which we are clearing up. Otherwise a healthy pup.
He's learning how to tell me he needs to go out so that's always a good thing. We have had our share
of accidents. He loves the kids and they love him. My son thinks he is so soft and "fluffy". Buddy just
lets him lay on him until I see and tell him not to lay on the dog.
Buddy is a lot of fun and makes us laugh quite often like last night when he was sprawled on the couch
and fell off not once but twice! He then looked around like what happend and just went back to sleep
on the floor until bedtime.
UPDATE 6/11/08 - It's Been 2 1/2 weeks that Buddy has been w/our family! He is adjusting nicely.
He keeps our 7 year old boxer-mix on his toes! Buddy likes to nip a little to roughly when he plays so
we have to remind him to play "gently". It'll take a little time!
Buddy LOVES rides and going to the beach. We have a check-up with our vet next Wednesday just
to re-check him.
Buddy will be attending Obedience training soon. We are just waiting for a Saturday to open up so we
are able to bring both our dogs. Maybe they can help with the playing together.
Buddy loves to take over our bed! A bad habbit I know letting our dogs sleep w/us but that's what we
have always done. We'll wake up to a paw in our face and a Buddy sprawled right out on his back,
paws flying everywhere! He's a big pup!
Our children LOVE him and he LOVES them! He's is awesome with the kids.
I will continue to update!
5/22/08 - Buddy has been adopted!
5/17/08 - Buddy has found his forever family. He will be going home on Friday. Abby, Andy and I will
miss him terribly. He is a great dog, and will make his new family very happy. Sad to see him go, but
happy he is getting such a great new home.
5/12/08 - Buddy went to the vet Friday for his shots and neutering. He weighed in at 67 lbs, a bit thin,
for his size. His spay was without incident, and he is now up to date on his shots. We picked him up
Saturday morning, and he is doing just fine. He needs to rest for a few days, but he is feeling better and
more energetic each day. He is just the sweetest dog. When he got home from the vet Saturday
morning, my boxer girl couldn’t wait to greet him, and there were many boxer kisses flying between
them. He didn’t let me out of his sight all day Saturday, and mostly cuddled with me or my
husband all day. He slept on the couch Saturday night, cuddling with my boxer girl. Just an update on
the suspected aggression. I now think that it is more of an over-protection issue. He met my neighbor
on Thursday, who has a 3 year old, and a new-born. He just waggled his whole body, and was very
happy to see them all. While we were standing on her front porch, another neighbor came over and
Buddy put himself between the neighbor and the kids, and was not friendly to her at all. Overall, he is a
great dog, and would make a very lucky family a wonderful addition to their home.
5/7/08 - After a week and a half, Buddy is doing well. He does seem to have an agression issue with
other male dogs. During a walk in our local park, he took an immediate dislike to two male dogs that
we have met before and our Abby has played with. Growling, pulling on the leash to get to them, etc. I
will say, he is a very strong doggie!. He is always happy to go for a walk, and gets very excited when
he sees the leash! His whole butt starts wagging. Very funny for such a big dog. We have been working
on the leash training, walking him at least twice a day. If you keep him close, he is well behaved. I think
Buddy would do well in a home as an only dog, or with a non- dominant female. He would probably do
okay with a cat also. He does seem to like our cat, thought Lucky doesn't really want any part of him.
He got close, and Lucky backed him up, so he laid down and whined!!! He is a real lovebug, and likes
to give big sloppy kisses. He has met some children, but no small ones. He is friendly, and tries to give
kisses. He is big, so his enthusiasm might make the little ones fall down!!!!! He is a great dog, and will
even come when you call him, which is more than I can say for my boxer girl!!!
5/3/08 - Buddy is a sweet loving dog. He is a bit larger than my petite little boxer girl, but they get
along like they have always been friends. Buddy loves to run and play with my Abby, and he absolutely
loves to go for walks. He is leash trained somewhat, but very strong, so more work on that. He is a
gentleman, and will sit and wait to get his breakfast and dinner. He also knows some basic commands,
like sit, down, stay, and he will come when you call him most of the time. He is a big mush, and very
affectionate, and likes to lay on the couch, on my husband, like a big lap dog. He also likes to lay with
my little boxer girl, and they use each other as pillows. He is curious about my cat, but my cat hasn't
allowed him to get too close yet. Time will tell. Buddy has not been to the vet yet, but he seems to be a
healthy boy. He is scheduled for spay on 5/9 and I will have a better idea of his weight and health then.
4/26/08 - Buddy is a young stray boy that was picked up today by his foster home from a great shelter
we work with. Updates soon from his foster home.
Here is some of the info from a shelter volunteer:
"I took a bunch of pictures of this wonderful Boxer boy, who is very young probably no more
then 1 year. He is extremely playful and sweet as can be and one of the best looking Boxer I've
ever seen as you can see from his pictures."
