| UPDATE 1/26/09 - Brutus has definatly adjusted to his new home! He is a love bug that follows us around all day long. He has started his training ... unfortunatly he is the worst dog in class :( He is just too happy to sit still and focus, especially with all new people and dogs around him. We are working on everything at home too where is does better ... not great, but better! We do think he'll come around with time. He is just such a happy and excited dog that he looses his focus fast. It is obvious that he has NO training before he came to us, so it will take time to break him of his old habits. So far we've conquered the jumping on the table to eat our food, taking food from our daughter's hand, peeing in the house (for the most part), he is being much more gentle when he takes treats from us,and he will sit until told "okay" for his food ... so we do have progress :) UPDATE 12/18/08 - Hi There! Just sending an update on Brute ~ whom we now call Brutus. Just sounds a little nicer. We tried it out and he repsonded right away, so it's a keeper :) Brutus is doing great! He is already gaining weight and seems to have adjusted to his forever home just fine. He and our other dog run around all day long and cuddle up at night together. It's pretty cute. He is still extremely interested in our kitty, but he is learning that he needs to give her space and she is not a play toy. We have not signed him up for formal training yet, we are waiting until the holidays pass. We are working with him nonstop at home though. We took our other dog through the training awhile back so we are applying what we learned with them to Brutus. So far he has sit and stay down. We are working on down and off still. I think that is about it for now! Happy Holidays to all! 11/26/08 - Brute has been adopted! 11/18/08 - He is such a sweet boy. He has no clue what a total 'gom' he is, but he loves everyone and everything. He is also a "gem in the rough". I got a call this morning from the vet office and he is now neutered, 61 lbs. and still growing, up to date on shots and heartworm free! I get to retrieve him in an hour or so. He is ready to be adopted! They love him at the vet office as he is so sweet and let them do anything. This is one very nice dog and he will do anything for a treat. He even will go into his crate with a treat as a bribe. Hopefully he will no longer be known as "Mr. Spritzer". 11/15/08 - Cute little Brute! He has a huge head! He really isn't too sure about toys. He is a great looking guy. I am keeping an eagle-eye on him when he is loose in the family room. He is so willing to lift that leg. So far, not inside. I don't think he was a 'house' dog. I suspect he was kept outside most of the time. 11/14/08 - Brute, is a very handsome brindle boy. He came to stay at the Log Cabin late yesterday afternoon from one of our favorite shelters. So far he has met the "girls" of the pack, but not the guys. He is a big boy and very strong. He has a huge head, and when he gets his full growth, will be quite the guy. I don't know if he is house-trained or not, yet. I have been taking him out on the long lead and he is pretty good. He doesn't pull much and is pretty responsive. He doesn't seem to know any commands like sit, off, or down. |
