(NOTE: Due to my hearing impairment, I will need a home with a fence, another dog and someone that is home more often (ex: at home parent, work at home, work opposite shifts, retired, etc) 5/6/08 - Donna came from Ma. to visit Brady and go with us to the vet this afternoon. Two people that loved him were with him at the end. For those that don't know, Donna fostered Brady as a pup, and then a few weeks ago brought him back into rescue. The vet could not believe how much the swelling, which was causing breathing problems, and tumor had increased in such a short time. She agreed that it was really time. Rest easy, sweet boy. 5/5/08 - Brady has his visitor last evening and being very much a "people dog' he greeted her with great enthusiasm and then stayed right with her for the whole visit. He really enjoyed the attention which was aimed specifically at him. I had been giving him small drinks of water, frequently and not allowing him to "tank". When he "tanks" he just vomits it in a short time. He went all night without a problem. I offered him a bit of kibble this morning, but he has refused to eat, so far. I had allowed him free access to the water a short time before and suddenly he up-chucked. Just too much water at a time. I did not allow him to drink his fill, just a bit more that what I had been giving in a dish. I will try a bit of Mackerel Slurry in a while. Cathy gave me an 'essential oil' mixture for all of the dogs, and we shall see. I gave her some 'Manuka honey' to try, which has healing qualities. While she was here Rose gave her a very nice "boxer facial". She won't need to actually wash her face for at least a week. Rose was that thorough! Sam checked her out and really approved of her and finally got into the same chair with her and went to sleep. She was sitting forward and not using that part of the recliner. Even Clara approved of her and that is very unusual. Clara is very much "my girl" and if there is someone here that she doesn't know she is either upstairs or in direct contact with me. Clara allowed her to pet her and even went over to her without hesitation after the first few minutes. Sam is a bit 'upset' about Brady and spends a lot of time-for him-checking on him, washing his face, being near him, etc. 5/3/08 - Brady seems to feel a bit better this afternoon and I just 'hand-fed' him perhaps a dozen pieces of kibble. He was looking for more which is much better than last night and this morning. He will have a small supper, maybe a bedtime snack-before the bedtime treat-and perhaps a better breakfast. Hopefully he will be able to tolerate the Tramadol-I think he will. I think we are going to forego the Prednisone for good. It just makes him sick. He has enough problems as it is. He is having a special visitor tomorrow evening. He is getting the services of a lady that practices Reiki. She has volunteered to come and see him free of charge. I'll let you know how it goes. 5/3/08 - Brady is no longer able to take the Prednisone as it just makes him vomit! He has had fluids and a couple of shots this morning, one for discomfort and one for settling his stomach. Pepcid later and then try a bland diet. He has been unable to keep anything down since yesterday, which is probably due to the Pred. Later we will try to get him to eat a very small amount for starters. He still has plenty of wag and in spite of vomiting was chasing me around the yard last night and even tried for a squirrel! 5/2/08 - Brady will take any pill as long as it is coated in peanut butter or Cheese Whiz! He doesn't like the Chinese Herbs and they are supposed to be good for him. He loves the breakfast yogurt and it is a good way to encourage him to eat. He likes the love-seat and was on it when I got up this morning. He also likes the Ortho bed in front of the Renaii. 5/1/08 - Brady is back home and will stay here until the end. At least he is loved and I think he knows it. We don't know how much time he has. It could be a week, or a month. When he is no longer being kept comfortable by the drugs, we will do what is needed. He is still a bit too doped up to eat his supper with the added Chinese Herbs. Maybe later. When I first brought him home a few weeks ago, I brought him in through the dog yard. Every time he goes to the vet he wants to come back in by that same route. If I take him for a walk, he is willing to use the steps and door. It is a bit uncomfortable for him to walk very much, so the back yard will do for whatever exercise he thinks he needs or wants. The swelling that was behind his shoulder and on his abdomen has spread to his left foreleg. That is whats makes walking a bit difficult for him. Dr. Matt hoped that when he did a needle "stick" he would find infection. No infection causing the swelling, so the conclusion is lots more tumor going wild and stealing him from us. Of all the "fosters" that I have had here I have never had a problem letting go. I was always happy they found good homes. Brady got to me right away and I knew from the start that I could never let him go to another home. I was afraid that he wouldn't be staying long right from the beginning. How long now depends on the tumor. Brady could use some prayers and lots of 'boxer vibes'. 4/29/08 - I have found out something about this boy. He may have been kept outside, a lot! He has extremely thick fur and even tho' it was raining he stayed outside for about 10 minutes, while the other 3 hustled and returned to the dry inside. It was raining hard! When he did come in I took a towel and dried him off. His reaction was great as he just wiggled all over. He saw the vet again today and he is back on antibiotics. Hopefully it is only an infection, and not more tumor. He is to still have his hot packs, which he doesn't seem to mind too much. He is so very good and so very much a love pup! 4/24/08 - Brady would so much like to be friends with a cat! He fusses every time a cat is near. However, when he approaches said cat, he gets spit at or swung on for being too forward! Last night he actually did very well with Rusty. She was being friendly and such. But when Brady did a play-bow and bounced back, she just ignored him! What is a pup to do? I have found that he doesn't have a clue about toys! Balls don't interest him, tug toys are a mystery and of course squeaky toys are out. Most of the time he seems pretty happy and is only "miserable" when he cannot get a cat to socialize! 4/21/08 - Well, we have got the results of the histopath (sp), and it was a grade 3 tumor! Not the best news around at all. I have been doing some research on-line and it seems that the "grain free" approach is right in line with the research at Colorado State Vet School, as well as other places. Because of his size I have started him on glucosamine to help protect his joints. Sam has been on it for at least 6 months after he was limping and not wanting to jump into the vehicle. He is better so maybe it will help Brady as a preventative. I take it too! He will get his stitches out next Monday. Then we will see what more Dr. Matt has to say.Brady seems to enjoy having a raised dish, now that he is getting used to it. 4/20/08 - Last night I finally got around to making a platform to set his food dish into so that he wouldn't have quite so much stress on his front legs. That is an awful lot of weight to support while eating. This morning was the first opportunity for him to use it. NO! Finally, I crated him and put his food in with him as I have done the last few days. He proceeded to lay down, with Sam just outside the crate to encourage him, and he ate his breakfast! Sam is such a good helper! Sometimes you think a dog is pretty smart, but Brady is "Peanut Butter Motivated"! He is getting all his meds, except the powder, in 1 teaspoon of pb. He loves it and swallows with no regard to the number of pills, capsules, etc. He really isn't "dumb as a rock", he just makes you think so when it comes to taking his meds! LOL!! He is getting more and more active and does a bit of a "caper" about the yard! For him this is pretty strenuous, but he is having a good time and getting his needed exercise. He seems to feel pretty good in spite of the wire stitches behind his foreleg. 4/19/08 - Brady is no longer afraid of the kitchen gate. He gets his hot packs in the kitchen and a treat afterward. He sort of prefers the kitchen now and enjoys laying on the cool floor. At least he can stretch out better than in the crate. He loves being outside, as long as he is not alone! He also likes playing Peek-a-boo around the trees and will run at me to catch me if he can. He does bounce around quite a bit so I have to be careful what I allow him to do while he still has those steel stitches. 4/17/08 - Brady and I went for a very short walk this noon. He is good on leash. After the walk he tanked up at the big pail outside and wandered about for a few more minutes. This afternoon when I got home from some errands, naturally everyone has to be aired out. Brady first. I let him out and was about to go and get a bag of groceries from the car. Suddenly there was a big white head sticking in through the dog door! I don't know if he will fit through or not, so I went out with him for a bit, then closed the inner door and got my groceries in. When the time comes, it won't be difficult to teach him the doggie door. I really don't want him trying to use the dog door yet, as he is so big he might get stuck and with his incision......................, well, you know what I mean. When I am outside with him he just follows me around. He wants to be petted and wants to assist in any way he can. He is so very good. He even stays pretty still when I am doing his hot paks! 4/16/08 - I took Brady out for 20 minutes or so of casual walking about the yard. Clara decided to join us. You have to remember that this is the deaf and blind meeting. I had to keep a good hold on Clara as she is all feet when meeting another dog at home. I was afraid that she might rake his incision! Finally I sent her into the house. He was all wiggles and so pleased to have another dog around even if it was for just a few minutes. He invited her to play and did a quick caper just to emphasize that it should be play-time. Naturally, she couldn't see him do this. It was really pretty cute. Finally we came in the house and I took him through the gate into the kitchen. He didn't want to go through the gate and showed fear! He better get used to going through, as he will be having his hot packs in the bathroom. Once through, I gave him a jerky treat and he was fine. Then we did his hot pack for about half the time he is supposed to have it. I'll try again later for a longer period. Then I let Rose into the kitchen and they did the "sniff" thing and he invited her to play! Hmmmmmmm! Has he been deprived of canine company? Then I swapped dogs and Sam came in. The boys did the sniff and were very nice to each other. They both wanted to play! I can see that as soon as he is healed up a bit, there will be playtime most of the time! I think he will get tired easily because of his weight, but at least there is still a "puppy" in there. 4/12/08 - Brady arrived at the Log Cabin yesterday afternoon. He was surrendered back to SCBR after 2 years as his owners took him to the vet last week and found his tumor was mast cell and needed removed. They did not want to pay for the removal and were going to have him put to sleep if we could not take him back in. He is grossly overweight and has a baseball sized cancerous tumor on his left side behind his foreleg, almost in the armpit. He is scheduled for surgery tomorrow. Brady may be deaf, but he knows a good petting when he gets one, and loves to have his ears scratched as well. I think he is a little trained as he seems to understand when I motion to him to 'come'. The vet doesn't want him on a strict diet until he is well under way with healing from the surgery. Then exercise and diet should help him to become a bit more fit. More later as I get to know him. 12-2005 - Brady was adopted! 11/22/05 - Well, Brady has been with us over a week now and words just can't tell you how wonderful and sweet this dog is! I have my own Boxer-Boy and have fostered quite a few over the last five years, but none have touched my heart like this lovable little guy! Let me say that being deaf is in NO WAY a handicap to this boy. We try to have at least one or two short training sessions daily and he has learned quite a few hand signals already. He now knows sit, down, stay, come, good boy, no, quiet, night-night and love you! He 'knows' the commands but we're still working on responding to each one a hundred percent. To be fair, he is just a puppy and I can tell you that my own 'hearing' dog took far longer to learn these basic commands. His house training is coming along and the few times that he's peed in the house were my fault for letting him play and drink water like crazy and not taking him out every 2-3 hours. However, he sleeps in his crate all night long (8-9 hours) without an accident and makes it outside (4 flights of stairs) EVERY time! He has never pooped in the house. Personality-wise, you will not find a more affectionate and loving Boxer Baby! He's not clingy like velcro but when play time with his foster brother is over (he sets the schedule) he will snuggle up on the couch with you and snore like a hound dog! Also, for being a puppy he (on his own) balances play time and quiet time quite evenly. He has a blast wrestling and playing with Mickey, yet is just as content relaxing on the floor and watching all the goings-on. He is also great at entertaining himself with a ball or toy when Mickey can't keep up with his energy level. He's always happy to see you and greets you with tons of boxer wiggles and sloppy smooches! His 'no-jumping' skills are improving and I think that will happen with time, as puppies are just so darn excitable! He's wonderful about going into the crate when told to and doesn't bark or whine when you give him the 'sshhhhh' signal. He has never once shown any signs of separation anxiety either. Other than having to physically get his attention when you want to give him a command, he is pretty much NO different than a hearing dog. He has been known to sleep through some serious commotion though and you do have to be careful in waking him up so as not to startle him. There are just no words to describe what this little bugger will do to your heart! Please consider opening your heart and home to little Brady and warm up your holidays with the pure and unconditional love that this sweet boy is just waiting to give! 11/14/05 - Hi Folks, Brady here! Although I hail from New York, I’m already the biggest Patriots fan ever! Foster-Mom & Dad picked me up at the vet’s in NY yesterday and it was a very long drive back to Massachusetts. I’m very cute and cuddly and I have tons and tons of Boxer-Pup energy! Right now I have to stay quiet because I’m recovering from a neutering and hernia surgery. Yeah, right! I’ve been having so much fun playing with my foster brother Mickey but FM keeps it to a minimum – she’s no fun! Although I can’t hear you, I am very, very smart. I already know the hand signals “sit”, “thumbs-up!” and will be working on others over the next few weeks. For the most part I am potty trained, but cut me some slack – I’m only five months old and have been bounced around a lot these last few weeks! I don’t complain at all when put in my crate either, because I know that down time is good for me. FM says that I’m extremely social because I love everyone I meet, human or canine! If you wanna hang out with me, you better expect lots and lots of smooches! My leash skills need some work and I tend to get jumpy when I haven’t seen you in a while but nothing that I can’t work on – I’m just a baby! So don’t forget to check back in with me – I know I will have lots to tell you in my next update! See you soon!

This is what I looked like when I came into rescue. Unfortunately, the family that adopted me did not take good care of me. They let me get fat and did not take care of the growth on my leg. I desperatly need to lose weight and be adopted by a family who will help me get back on track.
This is where my growth USED to be. It looks bad now but it will heal up and I'll be as good as new! I am a very young boy and still very puppyish in my ways. I can't wait to recover and start losing weight so I will be ready for my new family!!!!
