7/29/08 - As I sit here and write this, Bosley Boy is sitting outside the door relaxing and watching me
intently. He has wormed his way into our hearts. He is a big Boxer Boy (about 70 lbs now) who appears
to enjoy the peaceful life. He, Abby and I just got back from an early morning walk, and the only thing that
disturbed them were the rabbits. Oh my how they would love to see if they could catch one.
We continue to socialize him with trips to the pet stores, and he does well. People he meets just want to
stop, pet him and tell him how handsome he is, and in one of our stops, he was photographed by a woman
so she could show her husband and her neighbor who recently lost their Boxer just how handsome he is.
We still think Bosley might be younger than 3 as he appears to still be teething. When he thinks my fingers
would make a great teething object, I just put a nylabone in his mouth, and he lays down and chews and
forgets my fingers.
Did I tell you how much fun it is to sit on the floor between he and our Abby Girl and rub bellies? It is a
great thing to do after a hard day's work, and they seem to enjoy it immensely.
Bosley is looking for a forever home where he is king of the castle -- where he will be loved, played with
and live the laid back life. If you have a quieter home, with no children or older children, Bosley will be a
wonderful addition. Bosley does not jump on people and is not a big barker. He just enjoys laying around
wherever you happen to be.
He and our Abby get along great, and from other four-legged introductions, he appears to like dogs that are
smaller than he is. But, I can tell you Abby is in charge, and Bosley just goes along with whatever her
wishes are. It's quite interesting to watch. We have not had the opportunity to introduce him to cats so are
unsure of his thoughts on that subject!
We thoroughly enjoy having Bosley as our house guest, but he would like to have a forever home. I have
taught him to sit and down, and am working on giving paw. I think he is wondering what in his life he will be
able to use that command for (LOL!). He knows his name and when he and Abby are overly exuberant, all
you have to do is say his name, and you have his complete attention.
If you are curious and feel a connection with this boy, please call Second Chance Boxer Rescue. I'd be
more than happy to tell you whatever you'd like to know about this big mush.
7/9/08 - Unfortunately, Bosley came back to Dick and I yesterday afternoon. He was adopted by a
wonderful family who connected with him immediately.
Although I had taken Bosley to Pet Smart and other pet stores and on walks to meet people of all ages with
absolutely no problem, there may be something in his history that makes him nervous around small children.
The people who adopted Bosley fell in love with him immediately and we had and have talked on several
occasions. In the short time they had him, they sent wonderful pictures, and with some direction and help
from our SCBR colleagues, Bosley seemed to be settling in. It did not work for Bosley.
Bosley is truly a very sweet dog, but I would say he should not be in a home with small children. We
believe older children or just adults would be fine.
I truly thank this family for being so kind and caring to Dick and I and Bosley. When the mom called me last
night, I told her I was mad at this Boxer boy, and she told me I could not be – that no one could have
known this.
6/27/08 - During the 3 weeks Bosley has been here, he has shown good, positive improvement. Although
Bosley did have a couple of accidents in the house that has stopped now. When we had our first rescue, we
were told that until they are neutered, and sometimes, for a time afterward, they may mark the house. So,
we are grateful we are passed that. I also found that you can accomplish anything just by paying closer
attention and not leaving them out of eyesight!
Bosley and I have visited a local PetSmart and smaller pet shop. He was so kind and gentle with two young
adult handicapped people, who were both thrilled and laughing to have those Boxer kisses. He also met
two kids -- probably between 6 and 8 years old, and was a total gentleman with both. Both of the kids
asked me about Bosley's sores, and I explained that they are pressure sores and how they happened. They
were both sad but happy Bosley was being well taken care of now.
All of the cats were napping when we were at PetSmart (I found that kind of interesting) so he didn't even
blink when we walked by.
Bosley is great in the car and loves to go for rides. He is a big boy but sometimes fancies himself a lap dog
-- once he realizes your lap isn't big enough to take his whole body, he turns around, finds his place on the
couch, and you end up rubbing and patting his back end.
I was recently away for two days, and lo and behold, Bosley now sleeps in bed, but Abby is smart -- she
doesn't try to squeeze into a spot -- she just enjoys Bosley's nice soft bed on the floor. It would have been
very scary to have them both find a spot!
Bosley is also starting to play a little more -- we bought a huge tug of war, and he enjoys playing that in the
backyard. He can get overzealous, but I find when he does, I just sit down and wait until he calms down --
ahhhh youth.
I think Bosley would fit into any kind of home and would enjoy a larger backyard to run around in.
Although he is laid back for the most part, Bosley will benefit from some good solid obedience training.
Here's a picture of Bosley on our deck bench looking at me in the kitchen trying to figure out if I'm making
lunch yet. These Boxer kids are amazing.
He is a great dog, gets along with our Abby Girl and has the cutest face -- that half white, half black around
his nose has become a conversation piece in the neighborhood. If you have been looking at him on the web
page, now is the time to make your move. If you are looking for a kind, gentle soul Bosley is the man!
6/17/08 - Bosley was neutered yesterday and is doing great. In the few days he has been with us, we must
say he reminds us of a teenager who is still growing into his body. He is very lanky, and its quite comical to
watch him run to retrieve. With a gentle shove, a couple of small biscuits & a peanut butter-filled Kong, he
goes into his crate…that’s crate trained, isn’t it???? We also leave the radio set on a talk show for
his listening pleasure. Bosley walks reasonably well on a leash until he zeros in on a particular tree that he
must investigate. He will pull at that point but otherwise he is well behaved during normal walking. With the
help of my assistant Abby Girl & treats, we are trying to teach him a few obedience basics. Since he is tall,
his head is at the perfect height for both countertop and dining room table surfing. We’ve found that if
ignored, he will lie down after a moment of starring at you when you begin your meal. With his 63 lbs and
Abby’s 55 lbs, sleeping room is an issue, so he hasn’t slept in our bed. He enjoys sharing relaxing
moments on the sofa though with whomever got there first. Bosley and I visited the local Pet Smart on
Saturday and he did quite well. The first two families we met were Boxer families, so of course, I told them
all about Second Chance Boxer Rescue while they dodged his ever-wagging long tail. He behaved very
well meeting people of all sizes. He even took a fancy to a little Terrier & seemed oblivious to the cats we
walked passed. Based on his Pet Smart experience I would say he would be fine with children of all ages as
he is not a dominant dog at all. Even when Abby has a comment about something he is doing, he just turns
up that tail and walks away!!! We thought you would enjoy the picture of Bosley admiring himself in the
bathroom mirror. Bosley would make a great family member – right now!!!! Is it with your family??????
6/9/08 - Bosley arrived yesterday and is a very sweet dog. The woman in the kennel/shelter gave him a
bath before we picked him up and told me he had gained about 10 lbs since he had been there. Because he
has a cough, the vet has asked us to wait until next week for his neutering which we are doing. He was very
calm at the vet's office and let him do whatever he needed without any comment. He has lots of pressure
sores, and we are treating them with Vitamin E cream. Here are two pictures taken when he arrived at our
house. I will update him over the weekend. Please get your applications in early. This fellow will be the
ideal pet/companion to any age group. He is definitely over his puppy stage. I will take him to Pet Smart
next week to see how he is around people of all different ages.
6/8/08 - Bosley has arrived at Roz' and Dick's. Bosley had a terrible life tied up to a post with a coop to live
in. One of the suggestions is that we walk around with him with a leash and collar on and run a vacuum
cleaner so he gets used to all of the sights and sounds of a household. He has many pressure sores which
we will begin to treat tomorrow with vitamin E cream. She told us the best and worst -- i.e. when he kennels
up, you have to give him a big meat bone so he doesn't chew everything up in the crate. She gave us a nice
sized one for today, and we will get some more tomorrow. He goes to the vet tomorrow and oh yes, did
you notice in the picture that for some reason, he knows what the couch is (LOL). I will post top box and
other items once we have our visit to the vet, and I am able to be with him a little more.
