| 10/6/08 - Bindi has seen the vet on Friday the 3rd of Oct. She weighs 50lbs. She has had her shots and Heartworm test, which is negative. Also Bindi is older then she looks. The vet checked her eyes, teeth and body condition. The vet has found little lumps and bumps on her skin, usually due to old age. Boxers are usually prone to minor lumps and bumps as they age. Therefore, the vet has estimated her age at 7 0r 8 years old. However, Bindi is a beautiful brindle and looks so much younger then she is. She is not a hyper, jumpy dog. She is very affectionate but not real playful at all with my other two dogs. She does get really jealous when we play with my other dogs and tends to want to stop it by growling and possibly lunging at them. Because of this I strongly recommend she is an only dog in the house. Not sure about cats....but there could be a jealousy issue there also. Bindi is a protective dog, she barks at anyone that comes near our property. I believe this to be a good trait. I feel safe with her in the house. I believe Bindi would be a great companion to anyone who wants a loving, affectionate, protective dog. She is a "young" senior. She won't last long as a foster, Someone is sure to grab her up quickly! 09/28/08 - Bindi has arrived, thanks to Tracy and her lovely daughter for bringing her here. Bindi is very thin. Too thin, in fact she wobbles on her back legs for lack of muscle strength. It's as though she hasn't eaten a thing in weeks. It could be just all the stress of being in a shelter for a couple of months. She was a stray to a shelter on July 20th. Bindi is quite a sweetie. Very soft natured. She is so gentle. I gave her a bath first thing after she arrived, as I was forewarned by Tracy of her "shelter scent". Bindi didn't seem to mind her bath too much. She is a water licker. However, she couldn't wait to get out of the tub. Bindi looks much younger than the 8 years the shelter guessed her at. She also gets along okay with my two females, Athena and Cece. There was only one altercation at dinner time though. She wanted my alpha female's dinner bowel instead of her own. So a fight broke out. No major damage though, just more noise then anything. We now separate them at feeding time. After that fight Bindi is a little skittish around Cece. Cece has no problems with her, just keep her out of her dinner bowl and all is good. Bindi loves hugs and kisses and follows me all over the house. She appears to be clingy at first, but she just wants her people's attention and love around her. After her bath, her fur is so soft I can't stop petting and hugging her. Plus, she loves the attention. I will update more over the week as get to know her more. COMMENTS FROM ONE OF BINDI'S TRANSPORT VOLUNTEERS: "Bindi has been sprung from the pound. She is a very happy, smart, well behaved & very beautiful girl. The pound said they were only guessing she is 8 years old. She acts much younger, more like a 4-6 year old. She was ready to leave as soon as we put the leash on her. She understood the word "ride". This picture is when we first loaded her up in the jeep, she is smiling! She was perfect the entire ride. (A bit gassy from the food) She is way way way too skinny... the shelter felt she was too stressed living there for 2 months. She has a couple of spots that need to be looked at. She needs a bath, some good food and love. She truly will make anyone happy. What sweet girl." |
