ABERCROMBIE - Standard Poodle
|
UPDATE 4/21/08 - Abby is one of the standard poodles you had for adoption. She is adjusting well.
She now goes to the bathroom outside instead of in the house. She is walking well on a leash. She
had 3 lessons with Ginny Seavey prior to taking Abby to Arkansas for 3 weeks. I plan on continuing
lessions with Ginny in the next couple of weeks.
Abby is still occasionally skitish. She is much improved from when I adopted her. She is a wonderful
dog and her true personality comes out a little more each day. Thanks for rescuing her!
UPDATE 3/3/08 - Abercrombie, the 4 yo std poodle rescued by SCBR has fit right into our home.
She loves playing in the snow with our 6 yo poodle and makes herself comfortable on the couch!
Abby started obedience training today and was very attentive. She responded rapidly and seemed to
enjoy the focused interaction required by the lesson. We look forward to continuing the training for
Abby's enjoyment and to improve our ability to communicate with her. It is clear the training will be a
tremendous asset for Abby's overall safety and happiness.
It is clear the foster home helped Abby transition to her forever home and we are extremely grateful for
the efforts of all involved.
2/21/08 - Abercrombie has been adopted!
1/1/08 - Aba was returned to rescue after just 3 days. The family was not commited to making her a
part of the family. Being the Christmas holiday and homes being crazy she had no chance to settle in.
Abercrombie is a dog that has come a long way since her rescue but still needs some work. New
situations make her nervous. She likes to howl when she is alone and sounds so pitiful. She is fabulous
with other dogs and immediately got along with my 3. She LOVES the snow and has had a ball playing
outside. She is cratetrained, walks well on a leash, enjoys car rides. Aba is good with kids and did
great with my two 5 yr old neices at a Christmas party. She is wonderful with my 3 teenagers and has
lived with cats. Aba truely just needs a family with a commitment to make her the dogs she is meant to
be. She is so willing to learn and a very smart girl. She would be great in a dog park or in doggy
daycare. She would love to live with other dogs or be exposed to other dogs on a regular bases. Aba
needs time to settle in, she will not be the perfect dog immediately but will be everything that you put
into her.
12/23/07 - Abercrombie was adopted!
11/10/07 - Abercrombie and Hollister made it to the vets last week, both were brought up to date on
their shots, were heartworm and lyme negative. Both girls were also spay. Neither missed a beat.
Abercrombie has an ear infection that we are working on clearing up. Both girls were very well
behaved for everyone at the vets. These girls are really starting to show their colors, they are very cute.
They are warming up slowly, learning the routine and trusting more and more everyday. I think both
dogs will do well with another dog, cats or kids. Both are going to make some families very lucky.
11/3/07 - Abercrombie arrived in rescue on Monday. These dogs have had a rough start of it. Born in a
puppymill in PA, she was used for breeding there. Bought by a man that wanted to make some quick
money and brought to Maine. They arrived in Maine, in January. They were kept in a barn with indoor
outdoor runs. Never taken to a vet, never recieved any shots. After 10 months when none of the
poodles had produced a litter it was time for them to go. Luckily we heard about them. A friend took a
trip the same day and brought home 2 of the 4 females. Nice dogs obviously shy. Both dogs were very
dirty and matted. So I made a quick stop at a local groomer. The lady was so nice and even though it
was time to close, spent over 2 hours, bathing, shaving and clipping the two girls. Boy did they feel
good, you could tell how happy they were. I could tell no one had ever groomed them before as they
were very nervous but both acted so brave. At the groomers they meet 2 cats, that they really enjoyed
and about 10 dogs. No issues at all.
Once home both dogs were introduced to their crates, both dogs settled in for the night, not a peep.
They ate a good meal and kept their crates clean all night. It was a plesant surprise not to have a mess
in the morning. Everyday these girls get better and better. More to come.
