1/13/07 - This morning we had a trememdous milestone with Zelda! Typically when it is time for the
dogs to go in their crates, I put a collar and leash on Zelda and she willingly walks upstairs, where she
has been walking right into her crate--sweet Zelda has made tremendous progress since day one when
she would tense right up at the sight of the crate. This morning, I thought I would see if Zelda would
walk upstairs all on her own.  I told the dogs it was time to go in their crates, and I put Zelda's leash on
her, then asked her to follow me up the stairs without holding onto the lease.  Zelda just walked right up
the stairs all by herself and right into her crate! I was so thrilled!  Zelda is an amazing dog.

Zelda had a wonderful holiday season and got to open lots of toys and dog bones from her foster family
and friends!  Zelda just LOVES squeeky toys and when she's excited, she just loves to grab a toy and
carry it all around the house in excitement while her but is wiggling away.

I hope for Zelda's sake she can find her forever home soon although I'll be sad to say goodbye.

12/16/06 - Zelda amazes me every day with what a sweet, loving and playful dog she is and how
flexible she is in terms of adjusting to her foster home.  We have been going for long walks in the woods
most days, and she and Ali just run together and wrestle and play all along the trail. Zelda gives a few
barks when I get home every night but as soon as she sees that it is someone friendly her little but
wiggles ferociously back and forth and then it's play time! Zelda just loves her squeeky toys.

99% of the time, Zelda and our very submissive boxer, Ali, are playing, wrestling, or playing tug
together, and Ali follows her around like she is a godess, resting his head on her back and always wants
to just be touching Zelda.  Unfortunately, we have had a handful of incidents where Zelda is playing with
a toy, and Ali tries to grab the other end of it, and Zelda has attacked Ali.  Once we get the dogs apart,
we're working on gently yet firmly placing Zelda into a "calm, submissive state," laying flat on the
ground, so she will understand that she is not to exert her dominance toward other dogs in quite that
way.  These episodes have grown farther and farther apart, and my hope is that with time, she will
realize that there is no need to feel threatened or scared or defensive, and that she can play with her
toys without fear that someone will take them away from her.  For this reason, I do feel as if the best
home for Zelda is a home where she can be the only dog. For a home that already has a dog, I would
recommend only a home with submissive male dog. Even in this situation, with some patience, I do feel
as though she will be able to adjust very well over time.

As much as Zelda loves the car rides, trips to the park and to the barn to visit my horse, the crate is not
exactly Zelda's favorite place to go.  We put her in her crate only when nobody is home, and the first
time she went in, as she realized we were walking toward the crate, the poor girl just started shaking
and froze.  I gently moved one paw at a time toward then into the crate. Once in, I give her tons and
tons of praise, treats and pets to reassure her that her crate is just a place to rest her weary head for a
while!  Each day, Zelda gets better and better about her crate.  She has even walked in by herself 3-4
times in the past week and now acts like it is no big deal-just nap time!

Although Zelda isn't perfect, she is very close to perfect! Her best trait is that she is sweet as anything
and just loves people like crazy!  Her willingness to learn to adapt to new situations and learn and grow
warms my heart every day. If we didn't have a dog already, I would adopt Zelda in a hearbeat.

11/28/06 - Zelda came to our home yesterday, wiggly butt and all, and has made a smooth transition
into our home with our other male boxer, Ali; and our cat, Marla.  Seems the dominate boxer in the last
foster home was not enjoying Zelda's company (though the more submissive boxer & she got along
great!).

Zelda is sweet as honey, and loves to give Ali kisses all over his face and play and wrestle with Ali. We
took Zelda out for a nice walk yesterday, where she got to run and play with Ali even more, and
seemed very happy.

As soon as I sat down, Zelda came over and snuggled up with me, and is very affectionate overall.

Zelda is tender with her hip (she gets Rimadyl to help with this), which we'll have to watch until Zelda
finds her permanent home, which I know won't take very long as she is such a wonderful dog!

11/16/06 - As for this wonderful girl she is fabulous. She has her moments of wanting to be the alpha
and gets in fights with my female but they are getting better with each other.  Zelda loves my male. She
loves kissing him. She loves to cuddle, goes in her crate with a little push, knows her basic commands
and wants to be next to you at all times(even in the bathroom).  She can care less about my cat.

Zelda is weighing in at 56lbs, is all up to date on her shots and heartworm free.  She was seen by the
groomer's vets and they did xrays at that time. They said that there was hip displysia, early onset,
nothing to be done for it now.  She also thought the knees were bad and they ruled that out.

11/12/06 - Well Zelda has arrived... She is a beauty! Short and stocky w/ a bit of drool. Very curious
about all the new scents. Definetly a wigglebutt. We were told that she has hip dysplasia and came
w/some medicine. I will be calling my vet on Monday to make an appointment. We are seeing that she
tends to take her weight off her back left leg and we will get it checked out. All I have to say is she is
Beautiful!

We are keeping her seperated from our two boxers. We were told she likes to be the dominant female
and there has been a few incidents w/our female thru the baby gate, nothing major but a foot injury on
my part.
She is such a mush. I cant get enough of her. She is definetly a people dog always is by your side where
ever you are.

11/11/06 - Thank you to SCBR's special friend in NY who owns a grooming salon & got Zelda in
safely so she would not be dumped at a shelter.  She even arranged to get her taken care of at the vet
& held for us until we had room to get Zelda in.   Zelda was an owner surrender as she was too
affectionate(yes, you heard that right!). :(   Thank you also to Tinder for driving from CT to NY & back
to get Zelda in this weekend when the transport was not filling up otherwise!
