UPDATE 2/17/09 - Wilson is doing great! He loves everyone. Although it is hard to find a toy that he
can't destroy! He is very happy with his new family.
5/07 - Wilson has been adopted!
4/20/07 - I know I am writing about this boy almost everyday but each day he shows me something
new. Today, I had a long business meeting that would take me away for almost 10 hours so I had a
friend come over and give Wilson a break from the crate. She told me she had no problems walking
into the house letting him out and taking him for a nice walk. For someone who needs to work and
might need to call on a dog walker this is a nice trait to have in a dog. When I got home we also went
out being that it was the first day of sunshine everyone was out. We encounter three children under the
age of 7 playing out side. One on a bike and two playing in a yard. I stopped and was talking to the
Mom and Wilson was great with the children. I made sure no food was in or around and explained to
the Mom that right now Wilson loves to eat and would grab the food. I feel that once Wilson realizes
that he does not have to search for food and he becomes healthier with some weight on this obsession
for food might ease up. He has no aggression with food mind you. You can take anything away from
him. We then continued walking and came upon two dogs. One wanted to greet Wilson which we did
and no problems the other dog was laying in his yard. Wilson showed no interest so that made for a
nice easy walk. Wilson is beginning to learn not to bark if I give the command NO when he hears
something outside the house. This just started today which tells me how fast a learner he is. This boy
is really beginning to grow and become a happy boy. So be very careful my friend, if you stare at his
picture too long you will fall in love with him!
4/19/07 - Wilson had his first vet visit and he was a wonderful boy. The veterinarian feels that he needs
to put some weight on before she would neuter him. She loved his soft coat and said his coloring was
beautiful. He also jumped out of the car on me, but did not run away. He started sniffing did a few
markings and then came to me when called. We also walking into the waiting room with a lab and two
young children and he was glad to meet them all. So I am very confident that Wilson would love to
have a fur brother or sister, but he is also very content right now with just me. I guess what I am saying
is that he would fit into almost any home!
4/18/07 - Since Wilson has only been here a short time I am sure all his great traits have not surfaced
yet but I can tell you he is a love of a dog. He is by all means not a needy or whinny dog. In fact the
only time
this boy barks is when someone approaches the house or he is in his crate and I am in the house. He is
the first dog that I have fostered that runs to his crate with I say "crate it Wilson". He knows a treat will
be given. He has shown no interest in any toys, but again he might need some more time to feel like he
can be the young puppy that he is. This boy was lost for quite some time as he must be 15 lbs under
weight and was only in a shelter for two weeks before coming here. So you can see he has been
thought quite a lot. But slowly but surely he is starting to respond. He loves when I come home and
gets released from his crate. All wiggles and ready for a nice walk. Wilson will love to protect your
house with a nice firm bark. Strangers beware.. company will be welcome with a sniff and a soft jump.
I am sure with some obedience training that can be stopped. I love the fact that Wilson will occupy
himself with his kong or sleeping on his bed and then will get up and come over for some loving. He is
not a licky dog, but he rubs his muzzle on you and then once he has had enough he goes back to his
bed. Every once in awhile you will get a kiss. I am just
loving this boy. unfortunately, we have not meet another dogs on our walks so not sure how he will
react. I will update as soon as I can. Oh, Wilson wanted me to tell you that he would be a great
forever companion and family member.
4/16/07: Wilson has now been here for a couple of days and is starting to unwind. He had two little
accidents in the house so far but remember he is coming out of a shelter and I feel that with a little
training he will be housebroken once again. He does great on our walks and was left alone today for 6
hours and there was nothing in the crate. He goes to his crate without any problems. His manners are
a little rusty. Today he grabbed a treat from my hand which he was timed out for and will counter surf,
but I think with some obedience training and some firm rules he will learn his lessons. Wednesday he
will be neutered and then ready for his forever home.
