UPDATE 2/5/07 - Tilly is a quick study. Her old boxer teacher, Ally, has shown her where to ride in
the car--in the back without bothering people, how to settle in on a bed in front of a wood stove, how
to take a bath. When Ally goes first, Tilly follows the example.
Tilly is much better at listening. We have started obedience training and I think Tilly is very smart. She
sits and shakes, she catches, she doesn't jump up on me, she knows the word no. She will most likely
be the smartest dog I've had.
Tilly is wonderful to hug. She's soft and loves to cuddle. I am very careful to be loving with her and it
is all returned. She keeps me company when I am cooking and will settle down on a rug while we eat.
(She has her supper before I start cooking.)
I am outside a lot more now. With the coming of the snow, I cross country ski around a vineyard to
exercise the dogs. Tilly and Ally follow in the tracks, staying right with me. Today we went only a little
ways because of the frigid air, but most days we circle the west vineyard. Tilly has a running area
where she makes large circles in leaps and bounds. She is anxious to get back to the house--her
tummy is still pretty bare.
Tilly is a great addition to our household. We love her very much
UPDATE 1/15/07 - I tried to place the 1 week update on Saturday, but today found it returned to my
email. So I will try this new form I found on the webpage.
Tilly is doing well. She seems very happy. She loves our old boxer, Ally, and kisses her. Ally likes
Tilly--she doesn't want to be jumped on, other than that, she tries to do everything that Tilly does. Ally
is getting a lot more exercise. Simba the cat is intriqued by Tilly. He doesn't like being chased in the
house, but outside, he buzzes the dogs when they are on the leash--then he can show off his tree
climbing skills. Tilly is learning to be respectful of Simba.
Tilly seems healthy. She has a good appetitie and her coat is filling in well.
She will begin obedience training at the end of January. Right now she sits and knows down. She's
learning to fetch. Her only bad manners is to put her front paws on the the table or counter and help
herself. My husband and I are learning! So far she's had a piece of apple pie, a yard of interfacing
which she shredded and a couple pair of reading glasses.
Tilly is a sweet dog. We are very pleased with her. Some of her cute ways remind my husband of how
much fun our old boxer was in her youth. If we are watchful, she has no accidents in the house. We
do not have a fenced yard so she is walked around our vineyards. She is always eager and enthusiastic
about walks. She has met quite a few of my piano students--she loves them. Thank you Second
Chance Boxer for saving Tilly.
UPDATE 1/13/07 - Tillie has adjusted well. She is very loving and listen surprisingly well considering
that we are new to her. She is friends with our 8 year old boxer, Ally--they sleep together during the
day and at night. Ally has told Tilly "enough" a few times, but she enjoys her. Today Ally initiated a
little play. The cat Simba doesn't like being chased. It is harder for him to come and go as he pleases;
yet when we were outside taking a walk he came along (his choice) to tease the dogs and to show off
how fast he can climb a tree.
Tillie is thriving. We think she has grown, her hair is certainly fuller. We walk the perimeter of our west
vineyard many times a day. There are woods on one side and that is when Simba likes to hide.
Obedience training begins at the end of the month. At our home, it has already begun. Tilly knows
how to sit. Just by talking I got her to sit down and let the cat walk through the room. I thought that
was excellent. House breaking is as good as I or my husband are. We praise Tilly when she does her
jobs outside. Inside we clean it up. We've had 3 days in a row with no accidents, then 1 day with
several. Today there have been none. Her bad manners is to put her paws up on the tables and
counters and help herself. She's had a large piece of no-sugar apple pie, a yard of interfacing (just
ripped it to shreads), several pairs of my husband;s reading glasses. We are learning. Tilly does
understand no, but not when we not present. She stays in a crate if we can't supervise her. She has
met quite a few piano students and loved them all.
Today I played fetch with Tilly at our bookstore. She had a lot of fun and brought the ball to me many,
many times. We hug a lot. She reminds my husband of the crazy things our Ally dog did when she was
young. All in all, a successful week. Thank you, Second Chance Boxer Rescue for saving Tilly.
1/5/07 - Tillie has been adopted!
12/12/06 - Little Ms. Tillie has settled very nicely into the routine at her foster home. It is like she has
been here forever. She is loving life. She loves her food and when I say this, I mean she gets so excited
starts barking for her foster dad to hurry it up while fillng each bowl. She can hardly wait and will also
do some major acrobatic moves in case you didn't hear her. She is too funny. I often wonder how does
a dog come into rescue looking like she did, when she absolutely loves to eat. We are seeing lots of hair
growth from her mange. We are giving her 2-3 baths per week and she is getting prettier by the minute.
Her belly and chest are completely bald but I am beginning to see some white on her chest. She should
be a beautiful girl once she has all her hair. She loves toys and will play with a ball for a short period
chasing it around the house. She usually doesn't have it too long thanks to all the other boxers here who
think they have to play with it. She also doesn't mind jumping on another dog if she thinks that they are
bothering her. She has the attitude that my size doesn't matter, I will straighten out the whole world. As
for her housebreaking, it is coming along. She had no idea about it but we are making slow steady
progress. She is good in her crate even though it seems to be a new experience for her. We give her a
filled peanut butter filled marrow bone and it keeps her happy and busy. She loves to snuggle with
another dog while taking naps throughout the day. Yesterday she was in the middle of two dogs on one
single dog bed sleeping away on her back with her feet straight in the air. She is quite the character. She
had her nails cut yesterday and was good and just takes things in stride. I think she will make a great
addition to any family. Keep your eye on this girl.
12/3/06 - The newest guest at the Boxer'In on the Lake has been named Tillie. Tillie is a tiny little fawn
girl who just needs lots of TLC. She is only 33 lbs and is the sweetest girl in the neighborhood. Tillie
was helped into rescue by a very dedicated volunteer and she will always be thankful for her kindness.
Tillie is so thin but we will work to get some much needed weight on her. We had a stool checked
today and it was negative so with some good food and love, she should gain fairly fast. She does have a
yeast infection on her skin and has mange which we are treating with medication and medicated baths.
We hope to make our new girl feel much better with some much needed care. She was an owner
surrender to a shelter in our area and her papers state that she was just not wanted. Can you imagine?
She was a good girl in her spare bedroom suite last night and she has eaten everything we have offered
her today. We will feed her three times a day until she catches up on her weight. The vet today thought
she was a real nice girl and she was an angel. Everyone loved her and she was so happy to get all the
attention. She met a few dogs in the waiting room and had lots of wiggles for everyone. Tillie had her
first distemper parvo vaccination today along with a heartworm test which was negative. She will need a
booster in a few weeks when she has her skin rechecked. Tillie is now with all her
foster brothers and sisters and loves all of them. We will also be working on her housebreaking. She
has no idea but will catch on rather quickly. The weather today has gotten very cold, rainy and windy
which hasn't helped. The vet said she has no undercoat at all so she was not surprised by her not liking
to be outside. I told Tillie last night on our ride home that she was going to learn so much in the next few
weeks and that she will be loved and taken care of for the rest of her life. She certainly has had a rough
start and you could change that for her by thinking about making her a part of your family. She is a
good catch and a real keeper.
