STERLING
UPDATE 7/4/07 -   Well we now have had Sterling with us for a little over 10 weeks.  He is truly the
perfect dog and we love him to bits.  He went to the vet and yes he has gained 25 pounds since he has
been with us and now is more what he should be for his size.  The vet would like to see him gain 5 more
pounds and remain at about 85 pounds.  When mom is home you will not see him leave her side,
however he adores absolutely anyone who will give him love .... and that is not hard to do!!! Sterling
loves the outside and has spent some hours with us out by the pool.  He finds a nice shady spot and
relaxes for hours!  For some reason he is afraid of a red brick we have on the patio to hold down an
awning in the wind...can't figure that one out, but he repeatedly will go back near it and jumps
backwards when he touches his paw to it.  Who knows!!! Again I say we have found the best dog on
the planet.  Happy 4th to all.

UPDATE 5/30/07 - Well after two prior tries, we have hit the golden jackpot!  Sterling is the most
perfect boxer we could have come across and he absolutetly loves living in New Hampshire.  He is a
wonderful dog who has become best friends with our 11 year old cat Emily and spends some quality
time in front of the front door sunbathing with her and loves to share his bed with her when it is lazy
time.  We have not had one accident in the house and has proven he can behave extremely well on his
own in the house.  He has established a great routine which has worked super with our routines and is
willing to hang tight if he has to with being brought out or eating, etc.  He thanks all those who brought
him up this way.  He goes to the vet soon for a weight, however I guess he has gained about 10
desperately needed pounds.

4/22/07 - Sterling has been adopted!

4/18/07 - Well there's no more baby gates and no more worries.  This dog is AMAZING!  I have two
well behaved boxers and he's making my two look like hoodlums he's so well behaved.

He is completely house broken, not one accident at all.  He has no food aggression whatsoever.  He
knows all his commands.  When you tell him "Sterling go lay in your bed" he will go right over and lay
down.  When my two start their boxing/bite my face game he just goes and lays down, wants no part of
roughousing.  He won't put his paws up on anything like bat at a door or get up on the windowsills.  Of
course he is so tall he just rests his chin on the windowsill to look out.  He won't go in any bedrooms
unless I do first and then call him
in.  He will just stand in the doorway and sniff.  He will bark a couple times when my dogs do but
nothing obnoxious.  He has a quiet, more raspy bark that is not too loud, just enough to do the trick.

I can't say enough about his good behavior.  He's going to work out well with anyone!  He loves all the
kids in the neighborhood and doesn't mind them all crowding around and petting him all at once.

I crate him when I'm not home, along with crating my boy dog just because I don't want to take any
chances.  I think he would do fine if left alone not in a crate. My boy can be bossy and gets more
stressed when there's a foster around so it wouldn't be Sterling I'd be concerned with starting something
so much as my own showing him whos house he's in.  We also crate all 3 at night and Sterling knows
when it's bedtime.  I keep a blanket on top of the crate at night and when I pull it over he lays right
down for night-nights.

This one is going to make the perfect adoptee.  Someone should really scoop this gem of a boxer up
before I fall too much in love with him!

4/14/07 - Sterling has been doing great in his first 48 hours.  He loves my girls and doesn't seem
bothered at all by the dogs.  They have been sniffing through a baby gate and my boy tells Sterling he's
boss and Sterling doesn't seem to mind at all.  I think they will do fine when I let them meet with no gate
between.

He slept through the night with no whining or barking.  Has had no accidents at all and does his business
right away when he goes out.  He is very calm and mellow.  He knows sit, down, come and paw and
we are working on better leash walking.  I think he's just so excited to be out of the shelter that he
wants to explore everything outside.  Seeing as he knows his basic commands I'm sure leash walking
will improve.  He does fine, just pulls a bit, not bad at all.

I gave him a bath which he sat through with patience and no complaining.  His nails are super long but
he doesn't want me to do them so I'm going to take him to America's Pets on Monday to do them.

He's going to make somone a fantastic friend!  Just gotta get some meat on these bones.

4/13/07 - Well Sterling is THE tallest boxer I've ever seen!   He's a giant underweight super sweet
smelly lovebug!  I'm already calling him Sterling Marlin (NASCAR)on account of he's a southern boy
and all.

I put his crate in my office which is a different room than my boxers are in so he can have some time to
unwind from his long journey from Alabama.  He ate himself a good 'ol heapin' of supper right away too.

I have an all glass french door on the office and he keeps walking over to look out.  Hasn't used his
paws at all on the door and everytime I call "hey buddy c'mon over here" he comes right over.  Seems
to know his name well also.

I put a blanket in his crate because he's so bony I don't want him sleeping on just the plastic but I don't
know if he know's what it is.  He's in there right now with the door open just sniffin' and pushin' the
blanket all over!  Cute as heck.

I noticed he barked as soon as I left but being that he was in a shelter with a zillion other barking dogs
I'm sure that's just a reaction.  Although I am already prepared to spend the night on the office floor
outside his crate in order to help make him feel more comfortable at night if I need to.

Just wanted to let everyone know he made it here to Rain's Way just fine and here he can stay until we
find him that special someone that will be his life's companion.
