UPDATE 2/9/09 - Lola and I are sitting on the couch watching the Westminster dog show and I
realized it's been just about two years since we brought her home and it's time for an update.
I almost can't beleive it's been two years since Lola entered our lives!  I can't imagine what we'd do
without her.  I'm still not entirely sure what kind of a mix she is, but she's bow-legged and snores like a
bulldog, has webbed feet and a long tail like a lab, and has drooly saggy jowls and howls like a hound.
She ended up being about fifty pounds of solid muscle, but can still do back flips when she's really
excited.
Not everything's been perfect though.  Before she was even six months old Lola had cherry eye in each
eye and had to have surgery to remove it.  We have a supply of eyedrops on hand at all times.  She
was spayed at six months.  Then about a year ago she just stopped eating, drinking, and going to the
bathroom one day.  After a couple of trips to the vet where they induced vomiting to get all the food out
of her stomach, she ended up having abdominal surgery.  She had pyloric stenosis and her food just
wasn't digesting and going through her the way it should have.  But she's been doing fine since then and
hopefully we won't have any more overnights at the vet.  Lola seems very hurt whenever she gets left
behind at the vet, and she really hates wearing the cone.
We're couch potatos a lot of the time and she'll snuggle right up for a good movie.  She's also a great
excercise buddy, her cute face is good motivation to go out for a walk on the really cold mornings.  But
nothing beats a fresh new tennis ball and a good game of fetch.  She keeps me company while daddy's
gone; Aaron (my boyfriend) is a pilot and gone a week at a time, but Lola looks forward to his coming
home so that they can "wrestle".
Lola is now adjusted to the big sister role.  My boyfriend and I had a daughter (Ainsley) in August.
Lola was a little jealous and unsure of the new addition at first but we've all adjusted to the change.  I
think the hardest part for Lola was giving up half of the back seat of my station wagon.  That was
always her territory.  Lola is now Ainsley's favorite source of amusement.  Every time Ainsley sees Lola
she reaches for her and laughs.  Lola usually replies by giving Ainsley's face a nice tounge bath.
When we told our family and friends that we were expecting a baby almost everyone asked, "What are
you going to do with your dog when you have the baby?"  The first time someone asked me I replied,
"Well, Aaron's parents will keep her with them while we're at the hospital."  I thought that's all they
meant.  I can't believe people expected us to just get rid of her because we were having a baby.  I
asked one person, "Did you consider putting your son up for adoption when you found out you were
going to have your daughter?"  Lola's been our baby girl from the moment we picked her up and she
always will be.  Thank you so much for placing her in our lives!

2/11/07 - Snickers has been adopted!

1/7/07 - Well it has been an exciting weekend here at puppy world. LOL I got home from work friday
and decided everyone needed to be washed up a bit and all the bedding changed in the pen. Mom is no
longer cleaning up after them. There was alot of protests as they got a wash cloth bath and weighed.
These are some healthy fat puppies they wieghed between 3 3/4 and just over 4 lbs each. They are just
starting to notice things and people and bark. It's really quiet funny because they growl and try to sound
frightening. When we come into the room now they will sit up and wag their little tails. Next week we
are going to start feeding them some wet food to try to give Tootsie a little break. She has been so
hungry. feeding all those big babies takes alot out of her. In another week when they are walking
around more I'll try to get some new pictures. They are growing and changing so much everyday. They
are absolutely adorable and great fun to watch
.

12/31/06 - Yesterday a few of the babies had little slit openings in their eyes they were just peeking out
through. This morning I went down stairs and every ones eyes are open. I'm going to take some
individual pictures of everyone tonight. We are having some fellow rescue friends over for New Years,
I'll make them hold them so I can get some good pictures. I'm sure that I'll have to beg them to hold the
pups. LOL. These babies are so round and rolly polly it is amazing they can move around at all. Tootsie
is a great mom. Watch for their picture debut......

12/21/06 - Hi all, I finally got a chance to really check everyone over today. We have 4 little girls and 2
boys. I think for names we are going to go with a few that were suggest here. The girls will be Taffy,
Truffles, Gumdrop, and Snickers. The boys. Rollo and Bazooka. They go to the vets tomorrow for a
check up and mom can have her shots. That will be a trip and a half I'm sure...... Wish us luck. I'll try to
send a couple of pictures too. I'm going to try to get some individual pictures tomorrow.

12/18/06 - The pups were born this afternoon & evening!   See Tootsie the English Bulldog for their
Mom, Dad is unknown & no way to tell what they will look like when full grown.  They are adorable.
Dark colored with smushy bulldog heads, but long, long tails with white tips. They also have white
marks on their faces...... I'll let you know more later.
As of 1/29/07, we are no
longer accepting
applications for adopting
Truffles, Bazooka,
Gumdrop and Snickers
