UPDATE 5/23/08 - Shelby or should I say "princess" is doing great. She is a sweet heart. She hasn't
been sold on the idea of going to "doggie daycare" but after a few minutes she settles right in. She loves
to lay herself right in the middle of Diesels blanket and make him move elsewhere. She'll give us a look
as if to say"have the dog go on the floor" and Diesel will give us a look as if to say "why is the dog on
my blanket?" She may be half the size of Diesel but she always gets her way because Diesel chooses
not to deal with her. Shelby loves to be outside!! She's too cute the way she walks outside and
"polices" the yard and will look back to us and give us the "all clear". We are so happy to have her as
part of our family. She and Diesel play so well together and the human kids just love her!!
UPDATE 10/1/07 - Shelby is doing great, she was a little timid at first but now fits right in with the
hectic pace around here. She is acting just like a puppy playing tug of war with our other boxer Diesel,
running laps around the yard and playing with our four year old who never seems to tire. She has her
own bed and like Diesel her own stuffed animal she sleeps with. We had her checked with our vet and
she seems great, she also got her bordetella shot so she can go to doggie day care once a week with
Diesel, it seems to let them burn some energy and also learn to get along with other dogs. Diesel has
been going for a couple of years so I'm sure he'll introduce her to his friends. We're big Patriots fans so
Diesel has a Pats jersey and Mommy is working on a cheerleader outfit for Shelby. We'll be back to
you soon.
UPDATE 9/15/07 - We brought Shelby home today. She was greeted with hugs kisses and wiggles
form our family.(The wiggles were from the four legged one)She is doing well She LOVES our fenced
in yard. She was exploring, running and playing ball by the end of outside time. We brought her to the pet
store to have her pick out a bed and a few new toys. Shelby had all her dinner tonight, she worked up
an appetite!! She and Diesel were kissing and snuggling each other, very cute. No accidents so far.
She's doing well with the busy-ness of our home. We can only hope for a good first night in her forever
home. :) We'll send pictures soon!
9/15/07 - Shelby has been adopted!
9/6/07 - Shelby did great at the vet and is now UTD on all her shots. Her stool test came back normal
- I was concerned when I saw blood in her stool, but I've been reassured that it is probably due to
nerves. The vet would like her to drop 2-5 pounds so we will be taking her for more walks. (Thank
you Leann and Jackie for responding so quickly to get Shelby seen by the vet). Shelby has turned the
corner into settling into a routine. I've been crating her when I leave the house for short periods and
today decided to try her out of it. She did awesome!
I work at Outback Steakhouse and frequently bring home porterhouse bones for the dogs. The other
night, Shelby was in my daughter's bedroom (door closed) and Duke and Oliver come down to see
what "goodies" Mom brought to them. I'm feeling guilty that Shelby is locked upstairs and not
partaking, and suddenly hear a noise followed by someone coming down the stairs...Shelby. She hasn't
been here all that long but she knew the porterhouse fairy was home. She is so funny!
Here's my observation about sweet Shelby - she does not get on furniture, counter surfs when you
leave something yummy out, tolerates a bath, is a good watchdog, loves kids, loves to play, and can
simultaneousely give kisses almost as fast as she wags her tail. She loves car rides and is very smart.
This is a dog that will fit into almost any household - I say almost because I do not know about cats.
8/30/07 - This girl is full of surprises. Today was the first day of school and I made lunches for my girls.
We ran out to catch the bus and when I returned Shelby had counter surfed and had a buffet of bread,
cheese, salami, and turkey. I won't make that mistake again. Shelby is very special and not because
she is my first foster. She wiggles her bottom, gives LOTS of kisses, rolls on the floor when she is
playful, gives her paws as you pet her and thumps her back foot when you scatch behind her ears.
Someone is going to get a great dog in Shelby. She is a keeper. Pictures to follow tomorrow.
8/28/07 - Shelby is settling in nicely. She has a very sweet disposition and her tail wiggles are starting
to come back. My boxers, Duke and Oliver like having her around. When someone comes to the
door, it is a chorus of barking and faces in windows. She loves my daughters (ages 7 and 9) and sleeps
in my eldest daughter's bedroom. Shelby is quite funny. She picked up my rubber 3 lb excercise ball
and carried it around the house to play (glad someone is using it!).
8/25/07 - Shelby arrived and is keeping her distance from us right now. It breaks my heart that she is
sitting by my front window and staring out - almost as if she is waiting to be picked up. Thanks to Faith
and her husband for dropping sweet Shelby off. Shelby is a 7 year old owner surrender due to her
owner moved from her house into an apartment and doesn't feel Shelby is happy anymore. She is said
to be great with kids as she lived with 6 of them.
