SASHA
update 12/4/07 -   Sasha is about to graduate from her obedience class this week!!  After about 4
weeks Sasha got more comfortable with the trainer, but she was still very nervous in the store.  It did
take her until week 7 to finally sit on command but we all think that she was just being stubborn.  Since
Sasha is not big on treats we figured out that we were able to use attention to help her learn.  The best
thing for her was to get into the store and exposed to all the people.  All the employees know Sasha
and have been great about taking a minute to come over and say hi to her every time we're there.  I
think that I learned more in obedience class than she did, but it has definetely helped her socialize!!
We've also started taking Sasha to the local dog park.  She LOVES to run around and finds a playmate
every time we are there.

UPDATE 10/9/07 - Sasha is coming along very well.  She is totallly comfortable with both of us now
and is taking much less time to warm to visitors at our house.  She is also comfortable going to other
houses with us so we're able to take her with us as much as we can.  She is still a big scaredy-pants
which unfortunatly got her injured.  Sasha got scared going down the stairs by her Kong falling after her
and ended up tearing a ligament and fracturing one of her toes.  She was in a soft cast for 2 weeks, but
is doing much better now.  I think that we were more upset about her injury than she was.  She
continued to run and play as much as we would let her, but had to cut down her walks which she
missed very much.  She has since lost the cast and begun to take short walks around the neighborhood.
The neighborhood cats are very dissapointed that she's allowed to take walks again.  We just started
obedience classes (we had to postpone when Sasha got injured) which is going slow.  We've only been
to one session and Sasha is shy around the trainer.  She is also not so eager to accept treats, so they're
proving not to be a useful tool.  Hopefully she will be more comfortable this week and we can try to
find something else that will work for her!!

UPDATE 9/6/07 - Sasha is settling in with us extremely well.  She is still nervous around new people
but is getting used to them much faster.  She tends to favor me (Serena) when we are at home and is
my shadow around the house, especially if someone new is here.  She doesn't know where to go if we
are in different rooms and wants to be with one of us all the time.
We go for walks every day and she loves to try to play with squirrels and cats.  Unfortunately they are
not interested in playing with her and always run away.
Sasha has made some new puppy friends though.  She went to the doggie park with my father's dogs
and had a great time running around and playing with them.  She is a lot younger than they are through
so she wore them out with all her energy.  She also has a friend down the street that she's been playing
with every few days who is about the same age and has lots of enery too.

8/25/07 - Sasha has been adopted!

8/8/07 - Sasha's been in her foster home for over a month now and is a super sweet little love bug. She
is just the cutest little peanut and a really nice little girl. She hasn't taken anything that she shouldn't have
in quite awhile now so she seems to have learned what is acceptable to chew on and what is not. She
continues to be fabulous in the crate never a peep out of her. I'm so very impressed and wish all my
fosters were so nicely crate trained.

Sasha's favorite time of the day is around 10pm when I finally sit down to relax and watch TV. Sasha
gets this happy look in her eyes and as soon I sit on the couch she is on my lap slathering me with little
kisses. Sasha isn't one of those slobbery boxers so the kisses aren't that bad! After she gets some pets
she usually plays with a toy for a little while then takes a nap right next to me. I usually let her out for the
last time around midnight then she goes into her crate for the night. Sasha's second favorite part of the
day is feeding times. She does a silly spinning dance then dives in as soon as I put her bowl down.

Sasha is really happy just hanging around and being a housedog. She likes to spend time outside and
stands at the door when she wants to come in. Sasha gets points with me for not jumping on my screen
door like some of the others! She's really a pretty mellow little dog but every once in awhile will have a
bust of energy that reminds me she's still a pup by boxer standards. Like today when I was playing with
her in the yard and she ran right into me a warp speed. Luckily she's just a little girl.

Sasha is trying so hard to accept new people. She has bonded well with me and I am her security.
When she gets nervous meeting someone new she now sits or stands next to me then eventually
ventures over for a few sniffs. She always looks at me for encouragement. We are careful not to coddle
her and encourage her nervousness. Any nervous behavior is ignored and when she sniffs/greets new
people she is praised and told what a great girl she is. Sasha would really like her own special family to
make her life complete!

7/26/07 - We have decided that Boss and Sasha can be separated. We gave it 3 weeks and keeping
them in rescue longer than necessary isn't fair. They're young so they should adjust.

We just want to make sure Sasha gets a family that understands her nervousness and isn't going to push
her too quickly. She is never aggressive, even in the beginning when I had to corner her to get her in
from the yard. I'm going to try to take Sasha out on her own from now on.  Hopefully if I get her used
to rides, walks etc. without Boss it will make her transition easier
.

This little cutie will be gone very soon, so hurry & ask for her!

7/19/07 - Sasha was spay yesterday and had a lump removed from her ear. We noticed the lump and
decided to just keep an eye on it but it had gotten bigger and bright red. Yesterday, the vet
recommended it come off since it clearly wasn't going away and she was going to be under anesthesia
anyway. Needless to say Sasha was not a happy girl last night or this morning for that matter. The
doctor who was going to do her spay isn't super experienced with "boxer lumps" so her surgery wasn't
started until 1pm when our favorite Boxer Doctor came in. Since she wasn't ready to come home until
5:30pm and I had to work my father and daughter went to pick her up for me. My daughter had to
carry poor Sash into the house she was out of it! When I got home I took her out to potty but she just
stood on the deck until she was carried back in. This morning she still wasn't happy. She pottied outside
like a good girl then came right back in for a nap. Finally this afternoon she ate and drank, big sigh of
relief she was beginning to worry me!

Sasha is really starting to come out of her shell. A few nights ago I found her laying on my husbands lap!
Big change from the dog that used to refuse to come in if Jeff was home. My niece spent the night last
week, after just a few minutes of being shy Sasha warmed up to my niece and really enjoyed having her
here. When Sasha gets nervous she does a little low grumbly noise and backs away. She has never
shown any aggression, once given time to warm up she is fine. We usually instruct people to ignore her
until she sneaks up to them and gets in a few quick sniffs. At that point she is more comfortable and
relaxed.

I can take anything out of Sasha's mouth (bones, toys, etc.) she is a very good natured little girl. She is a
bit dominant with the other dogs (probably because Boss is such a push over!) so she is great with my
2 very submissive dogs, my other 2 and her kind of butt heads sometimes. I think part of the problem is
her nervousness too. Sasha is completely crated trained (A++++ in that department) and housebroke. I
am shocked to say we only had 1 accident in the 2 + weeks she has been here! Her only bad habit is
she will occasionally take things that don't belong to her (magazine, remotes etc.) she has not chewed
anything major, just small things laying around. We are quick to catch her and redirect her to one of her
toys. She seems to be getting the idea. Sasha and Boss are both so eager to please she will make a
great addition to your home. Sasha is fully vetted and ready for her new family.

7/9/07 - Sasha went to the vet today. She was heartworm tested and had a vaccination. She is
scheduled to be spay on 7/18 after that she will be ready for her new home. Sasha is a shy, nervous
little girl. She is good with me and my kids but is leery of anyone else. She warms up to women & kids
much faster than men. She's still not sure about my husband and we have a hard time getting her in from
the yard when he is home. Luckily Jeff thinks Sasha is the best little girl ever and has been feeding her
tidbits of steak to help her learn to trust him. He's been able to sneak in a few pets but not much more.
Sasha has been through a lot of changes so hopefully once she learns the ropes she will settle in.

Sasha doesn't make a peep in her crate and it is always clean and dry. She is very bonded with Boss.
He has to do everything first then Sasha follows his lead. The little bit of confidence she has comes from
him. Boss has to come inside first, meet new people etc. She's funny though because she is definitely the
"boss" of their relationship. She will steal toys from him and lay on top of him. They are so cute
together. Sasha loves toys especially hard rubber toys kongs, rhinobones etc. She is starting to play
more and more so hopefully that means she is settling in. Sasha doesn't seem to like water like Boss
does. Boss was in the kiddie pool today and Sasha only came over to get a drink (as if the water bowl
wasn't 10 feet away). Sasha is going to make someone a wonderful pet. I think a training class to boost
her confidence and for the socialization will work wonders for her. For now I would have to say kids
4+ for Sasha because of her nervousness. My kid are almost 5 & 12, Sasha adores them.
Housebreaking is going awesome, only 1 accident her first day here. More updates will be coming soon
.

7/3/07 -
Little Miss Sasha arrived via the Legacy Express this afternoon. Just in time for Independence
day! She is freed from the miserable life of an outside dog. Sasha made a road trip from Texas to New
York on the Legacy Express. We would like to thank all the Legacy Boxer Rescue volunteers, shelters
and veterinarians that made this trip possible.

Sasha is a little tiny thing. She lived with Boss (who's also available for adoption). Sasha is a bit shy but
is very, very sweet. She's had a long trip and just needs some time to relax and settle into her new
surroundings. I just want to hug her she's so darn cute! She's quiet as can be in the crate and in the
yard. She is a bit nervous and the fireworks going off in the neighborhood isn't helping anything. More
updates coming soon
.

7/3/07 -
The TX crew arrived late this afternoon. Caesar and Honey made their way to Debbie and
Alison. Honey is a little peanut, fawn with white. She was surrendered to the shelter because her owner
is in the militray and got transferred. Caesar is a cute white boy with one blue eye. I got many kisses
from him :o)

I have Sasha and Boss who I found out today lived together. Made figuring out who went where easy,
one less intro. for me to do.  Sasha is white/fawn & all of 35 pounds tiny,tiny.,tiny. Boss on the other
hand is a BIG GIANT BEAST. I'd guess 90+ pounds. He's a hand full! He super handsome but in
need of some training and a neuter. They were both outside dogs :o(
