ROCKET => Lincoln
- Boxer Mix
UPDATE 1/21/10 - I haven't updated anything on Lincoln in a long time.  We've been through a lot in
the past year.  Within the month of April 2008 Lincoln's life was turned upside down.  He had to have
surgery because he had a mast cell tumor on his back.  He came out of it well though, and has been
ok as far as that is concerned ever since.  Then two weeks later we moved into a new house.  He
adjusted to that within days though since he had a great new fenced-in backyard to run around in.  But
then only five days later my boyfriend died in a plane crash.  Our lives will never be the same without
Matt.  I noticed an immediate change in Lincoln since the day Matt didn't come home.  The dog that
never barked started to become a watch dog and so protective of me.  I fully believe he took over
Matt's role.  Lincoln is always by my side and I know he would do anything for me.  We've become
inseprable.  He is what gets me through the days, and I thank god that I have him.  I know that he had
a ha  rd time adjusting to life without Matt.  He would lay on his clothes and smell them.  He'd get all
excited if I was driving Matt's car.  If I put in a video of Matt, Lincoln watches it.  He still knows
Matt's name.  It just goes to show you how much dogs truly care about the people they love.  Their
never-ending love and devotion is incredible.  I wish more people could see life through their dogs
eyes.  Matt wrote a poem about Lincoln and the part I love is:
"My dog knows
I can see it in his soul
Happiness everyday."

Lincoln is my best friend.

UPDATE 9/16/08 - Lincoln had a wonderful summer!  He enjoyed many hikes, rollerblades,
swimming in the lake, doggie days at daycare, and agility classes.  I am currently looking into starting
him in flyball because he loves tennis balls, running as fast as possible, and jumping...so that would be
the perfect option for him.
I am also fortunate enough to have started my own dog walking and pet sitting business last April
called Walk, Wag, 'N More Pet Services, so now I can spend more time with Lincoln.  He definitely
likes the new arrangement :)  He is the perfect dog and everyday I just love him more and more.
My favorite tricks I taught him are play dead...where I say "bang bang" and he falls to the floor, and
hide...where he covers his face with his paw.  Also, a very practicle trick I taught him was to go to the
bathroom on command, which always amazes people haha.
I hope everyone enjoyed their summers and that many new dogs found their forever homes!

UPDATE 2/2/08 -  I thought it was about time to give an update on how Lincoln is doing.  We've had
the best time with him ever since he came into our lives.  Five weeks ago we started doing agility
together and we both love it!  Lincoln is finally catching onto it and we just have an absolute blast
learning the obstacles together.  So far his favorite obstacle is the dog walk.  I've always wanted to do
agility and now I finally have a dog to do it with!
Lincoln is a very obedient dog.  He knows I am the pack leader and he listens to what I ask him to
do.  We've been working on a lot of off leash behavior training and I'm really building a lot of trust in
him.  He loves to play with this little sqeeky toy that we've nick-named "his baby."  He carries it
around everywhere with him and he likes to sleep with it under his chin.
We've also recently discovered a wonderful dog park by our house.  It's an unofficial dog park but
only dogs go there.  It's pretty big and surrounded by water so the dogs can't really get out.  He's met
some great new friends there.  Lincoln also goes to daycare at a kennel I used to work at and he loves
it there.
He really is a special dog and I'm so lucky to have found him.  He's made my boyfriend's and my life
so much better and I am just so thankful to have him.  Rescue groups are the best way to get dogs.
My friend just started a rescue group to get the dogs from the Ohio Buckeye Dog Auction out of the
puppy mill system.
Well until next time!

UPDATE 10/12/07 - Lincoln is doing great!  He graduated from obidence class and I hope to start
him in agility in a few weeks.  He loves to run and jump so I think it would be great for him.  He
enjoys a challenge and it's such a great bonding experience.  He really is the perfect dog.  I couldn't
have asked for a better one.  He loves to go running while I rollerblade.  There's a long road where
there's no cars and we go as fast as we possibly can...you almost can't see his feet hitting the ground
he's going so fast.  Besides running, his favorite thing in the world is an orange toy that squeeks and
bounces.  He only gets it on special occasions after he's been good because it is really loud and he
goes absolutely crazy when he gets to play with it.  He still likes to go in his crate when he feels like it,
but he's fine in the house when we leave so we don't have to lock him in.  He's such a big baby and
loves to give kisses and cuddle.  I don't know what I'd do without him!

UPDATE 9/6/07 - In the past month Lincoln has met many new friends.  Every Sunday we go to my
Mom's house and he plays with her cat, Crash.  He also goes to my boyfriend's parents house and
plays with their 12-year-old Wheaten Terrier named Molson.  I took him to daycare where I used to
work this week and he had a blast running around with the other dogs.  He's a very social happy boy.
He's really funny to watch play because he'll take all of his toys out of his toy basket one by one (I
need to teach him how to put them away) and then he'll throw them in the air and catch them.  He can
play for hours!  Oh and when he's sleeping on his couch (yes he has his own couch) he always brings
a toy with him and sets it in between his paws like it's his baby.
Training is going very well.  His latest tricks include bow, play dead, sit up, and spin.  We're working
on "hide," which is when he covers his eyes with his paw.  That's proven to be a tough one.  He's set
to graduate obeidence class with flying colors next Thursday!

UPDATE 8/3/07 -   Rocket...who we renamed Lincoln...since he didn't seem to know he name at
all...is doing absolutely wonderful!  He is very smart and a quick learner.  For the first month I trained
him myself and he learned sit, down, stay, come, leave it, take it, roll over, crawl, wave, paw, and high
five.  He's a very social dog and loves other people and dogs.  He went camping with us and had a
blast.  We also took him to lake erie and he loves the water!  Tennis balls are his favorite and he can
spend hours chewing on his nylabone.  Lincoln stays in his crate when we're not home and he's very
good in there.  When we first got him he had a few accidents in the house, but now he's adjusted and
knows his schedule.
The first week we got him he had fleas and tapeworms.  I took him to the vet and got him on frontline
and medicine for the worms and now he's all set.  He's always groomed to perfection (since I am a
dog groomer) and smelling good!
Last night was our first official obedience class at Petsmart and Lincoln was the best one in there!
Since I worked hard with him the first month it is paying off.  Consistency is the key to success!
In just one short month I have become extremely attached to Lincoln.  I already can't imgine life
without him.  He makes me smile everyday :)  We're going to have many more great years together
and I'm looking forward to every one of them!

7/4/07 - Rocket has been adopted!

6/28/07 - What a sweet boy!   Rocket is very gentle & loving & such a good boy.  He is great in his
crate & is fine with my cat.  He gets along good with the other dogs, though being so young he drives
my older boxers a little crazy!  Rocket is getting heartworm tested & neutered tomorrow & will be
moving to his new foster home this weekend.

6/25/07 - Rocket was an owner surrender to a high kill shelter in Alabama. The shelter often puts to
sleep owner surrenders as they come in, because the shelter is just overflowing with dogs.  Luckily we
already had a transport coming up with a bunch of other pups & he was able to be thrown in that
immediately.  He is a very cute & sweet fawn & white boxer mix with a long tail.  He is about a year
old.  Rocket is very submissive to people and other dogs & so far is just a nice boy.  He met my other
dogs yesterday without any issues.  He loves to be petted and talked sweet to.  Pictures soon & more
updates as he settles in.
