UPDATE 12/17/07 - Another update on Rocco.....
Rocco is doing VERY well. He has gained some weight since he has lived with us (he is now about 65
pounds) and seems to be quite happy. He is such a handsome boy. (I wish I was more technologically
advanced so I could send a picture). He loves to ride in the car- to go anywhere, really. And, he loves
his Sunday morning running ritual. My husband takes him to a local ball field and shuts the gate....and
the running goes on and on....
Rocco is a neighborhood favorite-all of the kids love to come over to visit, or walk him. He has not,
however, adjusted to the recent snow. (We had to shovel the backyard down to the grass so he would
go out!) He has adjusted, though, to laying down in front of the fire for his naps (he stretches out on the
rug and snores like an old man!). I'm not sure where Rocco spent his first Christmas because the tree
and its many dangling ornaments seem foreign and a bit tempting to him. Occasionally I will find him in
front of the fire with an ornament hanging from his mouth!
He does have a wonderful, bubbly personality and my family is so very happy that he has found his
forever home here.
UPDATE 9/21/07 - Rocco continues to do well in our home and with our family. He is still enrolled
in Canine Good Citizen class but has not yet finished as our work/life schedule has prevented us from
attending the last two classes. However, he did learn commands and is behaving better (less
jumping/more wiggling) when company comes and is doing great on the leash. He has certainly settled
into his routine..like clockwork. He knows when it is time to eat, time to play (although I think he
would like to play all the time) and when it is time for his walk.
He is a great dog....Thanks again.
UPDATE 7/6/07 - Rocco is adjusting well to life with our family.
He has become well acquainted with all of the neighbors and loves his Saturday morning trips to
Dunkin' Donuts.
He is good boy....listens well, loves to have a bath, loves to go for walks. He is giving our min-pin a
run for his money, but they are becoming friends.
Rocco begins his Canine Good Citizen class next week....not that he isn't well behaved, but to be more
of a gentleman.
Healthwise, he is gaining weight and we are still seeing a vet about his skin issues.
He is a happy boy and we are happy to have him as part of our family.
6/19/07 - Rocco has been adopted!
6/4/07 - Rocco is doing very well since his neuter surgery. For him (undescended testicles) this was
very major surgery and his rather long incision is healing well and he appears to be quite comfortable.
Rocco has even tried to get Clara to play with him! He wants to play sooooooo bad, but isn't allowed
yet! Rocco and Sam have a lot of "gate separation" or they have spats. Hopefully Rocco will be healed
and ready for his forever home soon.
6/1/07- Rocco is now updated and neutered. His surgery apparently went very well, tho' Dr. Matt did
say that he had to "dig" for one of the family jewels! It will be at least a week before he can be adopted,
and he wants him to lead a "quiet life" for that week. He has an incision like a female spay. That also
means that he and Sam are going to be kept separated! They have had a few 'squabbles' and Rocco is
too young and too inexperienced to go up against "Mr. Jealous"! We will not be allowing anything
rough. Lots of crate and gate! In spite of being a bit "dopey" from the surgery, he still ate a small
supper. Then he looked around for more! Tomorrow he will get back to full rations and a full tummy.
He is finally beginning to fill out a bit and his hips and spine are starting to appear a bit more filled in.
With full rations, a good obedience class and some confidence he is going to make someone a
wonderful companion.
5/20/07 - Well, this young gentleman is not exactly the sharpest knife in the drawer, but I suspect that
will change once he has his neuter and isn't just out there making "marks"! He will then have time to put
his mind
on something else. I have to say he is a cute guy, if cute is the right word for such a big, long legged
goof!
I am pretty sure that he is housebroken and once his UTI is completely cleared up, he should be fine.
Rose has been working overtime trying to get him to use the dog door, but he still doesn't "get it".
Almost, but not quite. He is going to need another day.
Experimentally, this afternoon, we allowed Rocco and Sam to meet. Rocco is such a pup still, that I
don't think Sam is going to bother him too much. Naturally, they will not be left unsupervised together,
as that
would be purely asking for trouble. Rocco was mostly playing with Rose while Sam just watched.
I am hoping that after the neuter he will calm down just a bit, maybe enough to listen a bit. All he wants
to do right now is jump around. He seems to have springs in his feet.
5/19/07 - Rocco has arrived at the Log Cabin. He is a very handsome young gentleman and the first
thing we did was to change his "clothes". He is no longer in the harness and walks pretty well on leash
for a short distance. We will try him later on with a bit more time. He already has a appointment with
Dr. Matt tomorrow and is tentatively scheduled for surgery on Friday.
He is currently crated and I think it just might be interesting with him and Sam! Sam is a wonderful dog,
but he doesn't seem to care for other males! We shall see! At least he doesn't have mange.
Rocco doesn't appear to like anyone to take his collar. Once the leash is on tho', he becomes quite the
gentleman. I took him out for a short walk and he behaved very well on leash. At first, before we got
outside, he was on his hind legs being an idiot, and tried to be difficult to control. I think he was just
excited. He is getting the Purina One for food, the food that I got with the coupons!! I only cash in
twelve of them!! LOL!!
He also got a load of pumpkin just in case the food change was going to give him diarrhea. He also had
a half cup of the "usual" mackerel slurry that I make up for my beasties. He almost swam in the food!!
He
had it all over his face, etc. He acts like he hasn't eaten in ages! He looks like he is thin, tho' his ribs
don't stick out or anything. Just all length!! and so slender and TALL!
He should be interesting to work with. Hopefully he will realize that we are not trying to do him damage
or anything and maybe he will settle down slightly.
5/14/07 - Hello everyone.... Rocco is such a good puppy. He is a good boy who tries hard to please
you. Rocco loves walks...he does pull a little bit so we are working on that. He is eating very well.
We put him in his crate at night and he has been ok with it. He will bark a little bit but them will settle
down and go to sleep . Rocco will make a great friend to anyone that adopts him.
5/8/07 - Hello everyone here is a picture of Rocco. he is a owner surrender. He is an awesome puppy
and very friendly. Rocco loves attention, when someone is coming to see him he will jump like a
kangaroo...he is so funny. I think due to the fact he is so much still very puppy like kids under 4 would
have to be a no just because he would probably jump and knock them over. He is not as hyper at the
first day he had come to us. I will be making a vet appt today for him as he needs his shots and he
needs to have the spots of hair loss looked at, he also needs to gain some weight. We are working on
leash training him, he is a puller.
5/6/07 - Hello Everyone, Rocco's has arrived!!! He is 100% puppy! I not sure he is house broken yet
he did have one pee accident in the house. I am going to start putting him in the crate for about 2-3
hours at a time 1 or 2 days to see if I can make him hold his bladder. Then when I let him out of the
crate I will take him outside right away, I hope this works! If anyone else has any other ideas please feel
free to let me know. He has been here since about 2:30pm - 3:00pm and was all excited and still is. He
has eaten all of his dinner and is drinking with no problem. Rocco is very playful . I will have to take
him to the vets to check his fur he has some hair loss in some spots on his body. I will give another
update in a few days.
