10/11/07 - We adopted Ripley through Harmony Haven. We've had him almost 2 weeks and he's a
keeper. He gets along great with our other 2 doxies. He's a little hard on the cats, but we're working
on that. He learned in about a day and a half that if he barks, they run--now it's a game. He's got a
wonderful. quirky personality. He really didn't even seem to need time to adjust--he acts like he's
always been here. The adjustment has been more with the other pets, but they're all doing great, now.
He loves to "roll" rocks in the yard. He rolls them with his snout and barks at the rock. I have to say,
I've never seen a dog do this before. He entertains himself very well with this activity when outside. He
had a slight issue with submissive urination for a few days, but that has pretty much resolved itself. He's
been a great fit and we just love him!! Thank you Harmony Haven and SCBR!!
9/07 - Ripley has been adopted!
9/9/07 - Ripley is so great. He is having so much fun here. His skin problem is much better and barely
noticeable now. He follows us around everywhere inside and out. He plays well with the big dogs and
likes to be around when we are in the barn and the garden. He has lost some weight and looks really
good. We have found that if you ignore him when someone new comes into the house, that he will still
get excited but he will not have an accident.
Once today I was on the floor, on my back and ripley charged head and attacked me with kisses. He is
SO lovable and like to sit with us and cuddle.
Last weekend we went camping. We took Ripley for the experience. On the first night when went to
bed I let Ripley sleep out of his kennel. He crawled into my sleeping bag down to my feet I let him stay
there till morning it was SO cute!
He listens really well when we talk to him and he always stays right with us outside and does not
wander off.
We think he has made a lot of progress and will make someone a great best friend.
8/20/07 Ripley changed his foster home today. He seems simply lovely. He would be a good house
dog, following a you around like he does. He has a tendency to bark loudly when he's excited. Ripley is
very well socialized with our family, and is good with kids! He hasn't met our 3 other dogs yet, though
they've done a scent swapping. More after we get to know him better. Ripley cant wait to find a loving
home and family!
7/9/07 - I have now had Ripley for 2 weeks. What a little love he is. He gets so excited to see
everyone. He will sometimes whine so much when he first sees you, you think that someone is killing
him or that he never gets attention, but he is just so happy to see you. After the initial hello, he settles
right down. I took him to the vets today for his check up visit to see how his skin and coat are and to
find out the results of his Thyroid test. GREAT NEWS....his Thyroid came back normal. His skin and
coat have improved a lot. I have put him on a good diet and have given him a few baths with medicated
shampoo. His coat is nice and shiny and soft. His skin is no longer rough or flaky. The vet believes that
if he is kept on a good quality dog food, his skin and coat will be just fine!!
He continues to get along great with all my dogs. He continues to have a LITTLE food aggression, but
it is not bad at all. I do feed him in his crate away from the other dogs and he does fine. If one of my
dogs goes near the crate while he is eating he will growl a little, but that is all. He is fine around the other
dogs when he is given small treats and he is very gentle. He has a favorite Knuckle bone to chew on.
He has no problem chewing it while the other dogs are around, if one goes near him, he will give them a
small growl to let them know it is his. He never goes any further than growling at them.
Ripley is waiting for his forever home!! Is that your home? He hopes so.
6/23/07 - I have had Ripley for 2 days now. He is a very friendly little guy. Ripley was a owner
surrender because of the owner having anxiety problems. Ripley does have problems with his skin, but
we are taking care of that. He is on some meds right now, and we are also having his Thyroid checked
to make sure nothing is wrong on that end. We will not have those results for another 2 weeks. We
are hoping that after him eating some good quality dog food and some TLC, his skin and coat will be
beautiful. Time will only tell.
Ripley does have a little food aggression. He is great taking small bites of treats from your hands and
being near other dogs when given these small treats, but he does not like anyone (human or animals)
near him when he is eating from his food dish. He will also protect any bones or toys. He will growl
when someone or something comes near him. I have been feeding him separately from all the other
dogs. Although he does not like the dogs near him when he eats, he does get along great with the 4
dogs in my home and my cat when the food dish is not around. He loves to snuggle in my lap along
with the other dachshund.
Ripley is housebroken. I have not had one accident in the house. If I am not paying attention to him, he
will go to the door and scratch at it to tell me he needs to go out. He does do some submissive peeing.
I am learning when he usually does his submissive peeing, and I am learning when not to give him the
attention so he won't submissive pee. This has been easy to get around and I believe that he can be
trained to not do this any longer.
Ripley is a great little dog, and he will make someone's family very happy. He wants to please you and
just be loved! Hurry and get your applications in!!!!!
