** NOTE: Because I am still a baby, I will only be placed in a home where someone is home often, such
as retired, work at home, work opposite shifts, stay at home parent, etc.**
UPDATE 7/3/07 - Hey everybody....Ramone is now Dozer. I wasn't really to big on the name
Ramone...and he wasn't really answering to it anyways. Dozer suits him very well. I have a pile of dirt
in my backyard for some work I'm doing, and he goes to town digging in there constantly. He gets
along pretty good with my other dog Brutus (a Rott/Shepherd mix). They play all day long, but feeding
time can be pretty hairy sometimes. Both the pups are 5 months old, so they have a long future
together...I'm sure they'll figure things out. Dozer loves to sit on the couch and lay his head in my lap
and sleep. I go away alot in the summer so we won't be able to start obedience training till September.
Well I'll send more updates soon.
6/14/07 - Ramone has been adopted!
5/29/07 - Ramone has been here for a few days now and is doing very well. He jumped right into the
swing of things here, hard to believe he's only been with us a few days. He's great in the crate at night
and while we are out. He's in a large vari-kennel (plastic crate). He needed a shove to get into the crate
the first few days here but now he will go in when told. We've had only 1 accident in the house and that
was Sunday night. He started to poop right by the back door as soon as I started walking toward him
to let him out he stopped and waited at the door, once he was outside he finished his business. I would
have to say he's pretty much housebroke and just needs some time to settle into the new routine.
Ramone is good in the house. He hasn't attempted to chew furniture, shoes etc. He seems to stick to the
dog toys (and an occasional napkin/papertowel if the opportunity arises). His only bad puppy habit so
far is he still
does puppy nipping/mouthing when overexcited which is to be expected at his age. He's learning that
we don't tolerate that here.
We took Ramone to a big county park yesterday he did really well. We walked the creek and he
mastered staying on the outer ledge and out of the water whenever possible. Since he was just neutered
his foster dad carried him over any deep spots. He seemed to enjoy his adventure and slept like a rock
afterwards. It was definitely something new for him and it was obvious he was thrilled with his first little
nature hike. Ramone is a really great dog. He's seems pretty smart too. He now comes when I call him
and has learned to sit
when I ask him to. He loves everyone he meets and had quite a few admirers at the park yesterday.
One person we met with is Lab & Husky went on and on about what a great looking pup he is.
Ramone ran over to him got a pet on the head then promptly laid down for a belly rub. More updates
coming soon.
5/26/07 - There's a new kid on the block and he is the sweetest little fawn boy. He has a black mask,
natural tail and soft floppy ears. Since he was a stray to the shelter my daughter was given naming rights.
She decided to name him Ramone (a character from CARS, one of her favorite movies). I have to say
the name fits him he's a feisty little guy. Ramone was estimated to be 4 months old by the shelter vet and
I agree with that estimate. You can tell by his teeth that he is very young (he even lost a puppy tooth
today). Ramone rode in the car like a champ. We had to make a quick stop at the petstore to buy
puppy food. He was very nicely behaved and seemed to enjoy shopping! He's very thin but I'm sure we
will fatten him up in no time. When we arrived home he met the resident dogs then had dinner. All is
well and he enjoys the company of the others. He has already learned that Antonio is the "Big Kahuna"
and won't tolerate any obnoxious puppy behaviors. Antonio gives him a little growl and swat, Ramone
is very quick to mind his manners. Antonio has proven to be a big help with all the pups we've fostered
in the 5 years we've had him! Ramone loves my kids (4 & 11 years old). No accidents in the house so
far and we did leave him in the crate for a few hours while we went out. He had no problems being
crated, but I do think the peanut butter filled KONG may have helped. I must say that I am shocked no
one came to claim him. He is the sweetest most loving puppy. He's laying under the computer desk as I
type, he seems so content. Ramone was neutered yesterday and is fully vaccinated/dewormed. The only
thing this little sweetie needs to make his life complete is a family of his own!
