PRINCESS
UPDATE 7/21/08 - A year has gone by and Princess has developed into a relaxed and (mostly)
obedient dog!  She did great in basic obedience class, and Shanna is taking her to Canine Good Citizen
classes.  She will be taking the CGC exam in a few weeks.  We love to see her wagging her stump and
prancing around with a shoe in her mouth when we come home!  She and Griffin have developed a
sibling-like relationship, with Princess as the boss.  She tells him what to do and he does it.  They've
been sunbathing in the backyard together since the weather got warmer.
Last week she had a mast cell tumor removed from her back leg.  We're waiting for the biopsy result
but we're hoping that we caught it early.
It's been a great year with Princess and we love her.

UPDATE 12/13/07 - Wow, almost 6 months of having Princess!  The time has flown by.  Princess is
doing great.  She stopped chewing on her feet and they are healed.  With a lot of walking, she has lost
her extra chubb, and her baggy teats have tightened up (people on the street have stopped asking us if
we're selling puppies!).  She has revealed herself to be a brilliant dog.  She has figured out how to open
doors in the house, get into the food bucket and retrieve her toys from her toybox.  She loves the
Buster Cube.  We took her to obedience classes and she did well, although sometimes she chooses not
to follow commands if they don't suit her mood. : )  Shanna is going to take her to the advanced
obedience class this spring and we expect her to do very well!  She is doing well with our other dog,
Griffin.  We discovered that she only gets snarfy with him if he runs up to her suddenly, so we've been
keeping the in-house running to a minimum and she has been fine.  Shanna and Princess are like 2 peas
in a pod--they love each other very much.  We are so glad to have her!

UPDATE 8/4/07 - Princess has been with us for a month and is doing much better!  We have been
working with a great dog trainer and it has made a big difference.  We also found out that Princess
LOVES hot dogs, so she's more excited about her clicker training now.  With training, she and Griffin
are getting along much better.  They've started lying next to each other voluntarily and will lick each
other occasionally.  We're still separating them during times of excitment and stimuli, but we're feeling
good about their progress.  We think they will be friends after all.
Princess has been chewing her feet less, and the anti-fungal spray from the vet seems to have helped.
They are looking less irritated and her hair is growing back on the sides of her paws.  We've been
exercising her a lot and she's lost a few pounds.  With the recent heat wave in Massachusetts, she's
been doing a whole lot of nothing, but we're looking forward to hiking with her when things cool down.
She is hilarious.  When she's happy and relaxed--like when we're scratching her--she snores while she's
awake (not to mention the snoring when she's asleep).  We love her and we are so glad to have her!

UPDATE 7/23/07 -   Princess is doing better!  We had a session with a private dog trainer to address
her separation anxiety and the conflict with our other dog.  It seems like she has only gotten in fights
with Griffin during situations where she is nervous, so we are working to make her feel calmer and more
secure.  We started clicker training and she is catching on fast.  She is an excellent companion in the car
and has been accompanying us on errands around town.  As I write this she is snoring away on a
blanket near the computer.  The dog trainer is coming back this week to work with us again and we
feel very optimistic about her progress.

UPDATE 7/11/07 - The past week has had its ups and downs with Princess.  At times we have
wondered if we got the evil twin sister of the dog that her foster home described!  She is usually very
cute and clearly likes people.  Unfortunately, after a few days of introductions she started a serious fight
with our other dog and they have been separated for the last few days.  We are having a consultation
with a private dog trainer on Monday to work on their "relationship."  For now we are limiting their play
time to leashed walks.
She also hates her crate and doesn't hesitate to let it be known!  She is ok to sleep in the crate as long
as we are in the bedroom, but if we leave the room she raises a ruckus.  She actually screams in
frustration when we don't come back in the room!  We recently tried confining her to a small bedroom
instead of the crate when we had to leave the house.  The first 2 times she shredded a window screen
and chewed the door/doorknob.  The last time we hid treats all over the room and gave her a bone to
chew on--she seemed fine when we got back with no damage.  It's unclear if she has separation anxiety
or if she is just a spoiled girl who isn't used to be crated or left alone.
She is very smart and figured out how to get into the cabinet where we kept the treats within a few
hours of being near the cabinet.  We do like her; we just hope that her behavior will get better when she
settles into her new home.

7/4/07 - Princess has been adopted!

7/4/07 - Well my beautiful girl went to her forever home today!! I had a hard time letting her go as she's
been my sidekick for quite a while. Princess has gone to Mass. with a couple of wonderful girls, Aleah
& Shanna and will have a playmate there, which she will love!  The girls have got themselves quite a
prize with Princess and they really love her! All I had to do was ask her if she wanted to go for a ride,
and she jumped up in there car and settled in for the long ride home.

Aleah emailed me when they arrived back home and said Princess did fine on the ride and was at their
house chewing on the marrow bone I sent home with her. Princess was a real pleasure to foster.
Thanks to all who helped get her to me, and many thanks to Aleah & Shanna for adopting her and
giving her a forever home!!

6/22/07 - Princess continues to be a wonderful dog! I boxer sat for an unneutered 3 yr. old male boxer
for a couple weeks and did she ever love having someone her size to play with!!! They wrestled,
played tug of war, tossed balls around, and it sounded like I had a bunch of 5 year old skin kids running
around here! Princess had the time of her life! She loves to ride in the car, sit on your feet, and follow
you everywhere. She is just the sweetest dog! I can't believe she's still with me and not in her forever
home. She has absolutely NO bad habits. She loves little kids, and when my 4 yr.old grandson visits,
they lay together on his blanket. He's the only one who can get kisses just by asking. Princess is not a
kissy dog. She will give you kisses (only on your ears) once in a while after some very severe begging
on my part!!  Princess still sleeps with me and is quite the cuddle bug and still snores loud enough to
challenge any man! All that meet her love her to pieces, and can't believe that she's really 6 years old,
as she seems much younger.  Anyone looking for a really super dog, should think about adopting her!
I've been truly blessed to have her these past 3 months! Princess is a perfect lady!!

4/27/07 - Princess continues to be the most wonderful boxer anyone could ask for. She was spayed on
4/12/07 and had 3 cysts removed (1 on her side, 1 on her chest, and lost a nipple as she had a big cyst
there). Princess is totally potty trained & paws at the door when she's ready to come back in. She does
very well with other dogs and loves everyone of all ages she meets. She has been wormed and is
currently on antihistamines as the vet feels she has allergies as she chews her feet. It does seem to help.
I also add Welactin to her food, which is an Omega 3 oil for her skin & coat. The only bad habit she
has is snoring. I swear she can outdo any man! Otherwise she is extremely well behaved & does not
have the flatulence problem that many boxers have. She's ready for her forever home. Won't you
please add her to yours?

3/19/07 - Princess has been with my almost 4 year old grandson for 2 days now, and she loves him.
The first proof of that was sitting with Ethin on the couch, laying her head across Ethin's legs and falling
asleep. She played outside with him for a while today and slept with him last night. Princess is a very
sweet dog, who loves to be with you. She will follow you room to room, and is very comfortable laying
at your feet or in your lap. Princess also knows the basic commands: sit, shake, down. She listens well
and is eager to please. Princess is a great dog and will make someone a great companion. Please
consider making her your forever pet. She won't disappoint you!

3/14/07 - Princess arrived here from a local shelter Monday night. My thanks to Leslie for picking her
up. She is a marvelous female, who appears she may have had many litters. She likes to be with you, as
she follows
me everywhere, but that could also be from all the changes she has had in her life lately. She is a
whiner, and will let you know when she needs to go outside. She's had no accidents, is eating and
drinking, and likes to have a treat here and there. She loves dog biscuits as we found out yesterday at
the vets office when we made sure she was up to date with her shots. Princess will be spayed at the
end of the month and has a couple lumps that need to be checked out. She's had no trouble making
herself at home on the furniture and sleeps with me at night. Surprisingly, she is NOT a bedhog. She's
very comfortable staying on the bottom of the bed and having her own space.

Rumor had it that she didn't get along with other dogs, but I don't see that as a problem unless they are
aggressive dogs. She will back down the first time, but not the second time, and stands her ground very
well with the alpha male in my house. I am just keeping them separate for now. She gets along with all
of the other dogs and really doesn't bother with them at all. I wonder if whomever parted with her may
have just decided to no longer breed her and let her go?  Someone polished her toenails at some point,
so she's obviously very mellow, and doesn't mind her feet being played with. My 4 year old grandson
will be around Sunday and we will be very slow at introductions, but so far she's been super with all the
grown ups she has met. Someone will be very blessed to get this wonderful dog! Hurry to get your
applications in for Princess!!
