UPDATE 3/16/09 - It has been awhile since I have updated King. We have had some changes in
our family since adopting King. We now have another family member Abigail Elizabeth born Jan
15,2009.
He has taken to her well. A little too curious in the begining but now has adjusted to her squeeks
and cries. He even gets up with me at night when I feed her and keeps me company. He is very
healthy and happy. But ready for the snow to melt. Arne't we all. King has earned the right to free
roam the house and we no longer use the cage. While we are gone he keeps the house well
guarded. Even tho he is a complete love his bark is very intimadating. King is a great joy to have aas
a family member here. Everyone loves him when they visit.
He certainly loves them too. Sometimes too much. Something we are constanly working on. But
how can you complain about too much love?
UPDATE 3/4/08 - Hi Everyone,
Well it has been year ago yesterday we adopted King.
He has settled in very well here in our home. He is such a big lover. And we are convinced he was a
cat in his former life but we don't discuss this with him. We don't need our alarm clocks anymore.
He gets us up around 6:00 am every morning to feed him and let him out.
I constantly get comments from various neighbors and people how handsome he is. He is so good
with little kids. I am now baby sitting a 1 year old 3 days a week and King just adores him.King is
gentle enough to let him climb and play all over him. I think he truly loves us just laying on him. He
even has his own gold fish. Although we don't know what he has named it yet other than "Snack"!!!
He knows all his toys names which amazes us because we'll say "Get your snowman toy" and he
comes back with it! He eats well we had to change his dog food from Timerland to Holistic Digest.
Not only the price went sky high but we found him throwing it up alot. But on the new dog food he
is doing well. He LOVES car rides. He has his spot in the back of the van.I usually take him at least
once a week to drop off Kaylee to preschool. Here is a pic to show you how wonderful he is. We
would love to Thank Lauren and her family for fostering King and SCBR for being a very loving and
caring organization. And to all the volunteers whom spend their weekends driving from state to state
to help get these truly special breed of dogs to a new future. We are hooked forever.
UPDATE 10/5/07 - Hi everyone,
I am letting SCBR know what a wonderful dog King is. He is begging for my left over toast bits as I
type this. We purchased the invisible fence for him in the beginnig of the summer and he has done so
well with it. He truly is a smart dog. We all went on a road trip back to NY to visit famliy. The 4 1/2
hour ride didn't faze him. We just put his favorite blanket and pillow on the back bench seat and he
was out.
We are considering adopting another boxer this next spring. King could really use a play mate.
Thank you for being a wonderful organization. I am constantly looking at all the adorable new
commers and reading all their stories. I will be updating his photo album soon on the Yahoo page.
He is such a ham.
Thank you again,
UPDATE 5/3/07 - King is doing so great! We finish Ob.Class next week. King has met our
neighbors dogs Apollo and Isabelle(pugs). He loves to play and dance around with them. I am a
little over protective of them because he likes to paw them during play I wouldn't want there little
backs hurt. He also has socailized well my babysitters dogs a huge a rotty that is only 1 1/2,Dozer
& Abby a loveable large female retreiver. King has put her in her place already so when we visit she
shows him who is KING!!!!Dozer on the other hand tries to dominate in his own way but King just
ignores him. We go for walks 3 times a week and he play so well in our back yard. He just runs
around us or when he tired he just lays down in the shade by the house.
He listens to Kaylee so well. He loves to cuddle with her. We still keep him caged at night. But
when my husband is on busniess trips King sleeps with me but he is a huge bed hog. King is such
an awesome dog. So loveable and sweet. He has no agression what so ever. But when we are out
he is pretty intimadating looking.Tons of people has commented on how handsom he is. I will mail
out a copy of the certifiacte when he graduates.
UPDATE 4/3/07 - King has adjusted so well to our family and routine.
He is such a smart and loveable dog. He know the commands out, down, off, come, sit.I don't
understand why someone would let this dog go but Thank you!
We start our dog training tonight as a family at Ellis dog traing in Dover.
We also have taken King to York Short Sands Beach twice. Loves the birds, running after his ball
and the waves. He rides awesome in our mini van.
We took him to the vet here in Somersworth and had a complete check on him. He was tested for
some NJ type bacterias and he did have on of them and is on meds 2x daily orally to clean that up.
He is gaining weight slowly. But he is so musclular it is hard to get him to hide those ribs but week
by week we notice a change in his weight.
We have him on Timberwolf lamb and apple. He loves it and the whole Menu foods has not
affected us. Thank god!!King loves our daughter Kaylee. He dosn't jump or bite. He minds her
well. His favorite things to do is ride to preschools tues and thursdays. Play in our yard with the
frisbee, kong and balls. Sleeping on the couchs and beds. Sleeping in the sun on the living room
carpet. Boxing his kong all over the house. Walks in the nieghborhood.
He has no aggression towards kids, food and/or other dogs. He is just the most loveable, well
mannered dog ever. If all dogs were like King we would have 10 of them!!! Well maybe not 10 but
close.
I will keep updating his progress to the web site and to the foster mom,Lauren. I will also send out
his training info as soon as we are done.
Thank you!
3/3/07 - King has been adopted!
2/8/07 - Oh my goodness I've fallen in love! King's AWESOME! I have kept him leashed to my
belt loop during busy house hours for a couple days because if he wanders the house when I'm not
looking he tends to be Mr. McSquirts but we had no accidents at all yesterday or this morning.
It's amazing to watch him learn the routine. He's now getting the "time to GO OUT" and does his
business for me right away. He now knows that he gets a treat when we come back in the house.
The first couple days he wouldn't take any treats, I don't think he knew what they were :( but now
he knows when he's a good boy he gets one and he loves them!
He is doing SO well, stays right by my side every minute. At night when things are quiet and we are
watching TV, even if he is sleeping on the floor he's just inches from me and if I get up and walk
away, BOOM, he's right there against my leg walking with me. Follows me everywhere. Last night I
was sitting on the living room floor and all thhree dogs were sleeping up against me, it was heaven.
We went to the vet Wednesday and got updated on everything he needs and he's going in
tomorrow (Friday) to see Dr.Snippitts. I'm sure he'll do just fine. The vet says he's in real good
shape, not underweight, just VERY muscular (his thigh muscles are HUGE). He called him the
Schwartzeneger of boxers. We think by his muscles and the wear of his toenails that he spent a lot
of time pulling at a chain not getting anywhere. And that with some time, he'll gain some body fat,
not be so ribby and tone out all over. SO handsome and loveable.
We are working daily on "no jump" as he likes to put his paws up on you (very slowly) and he
wants to counter surf to see what's for dinner but he's already understanding the basic commands.
Schooling is going to be great for him, he's a fast learner. I will post after his surgery on Friday.
2/5/07 - Our first night went fantastic. Not a peep out of King any time he's in his crate. He was fine
with my two dogs buzzing around his crate getting their sniffs in, no aggression at all. No food
aggression either, he has been eating in the kitchen at the same time as my two. I let them all meet
nose to nose this afternoon and everything went perfectly. Quite a bit of boxer play between the
boys but no growls or anything. He let's me hold his food bowl and he shared a water dish with
both dogs at the same time this afternoon.
He does seem to want to mark his territory but that may change after he sees Dr. Snippitts. So for
now I keep him real close to me so he can't go sniffing around out of my sight.
His personality is incredible. He loves my two daughters and lays right down on the floor showing
his belly for some tummy scratches. Loves to be with you all the time, a natural speed bump
whenever I turn around. With his cute face and happy go lucky charm he will be a catch for
someone in no time. He's a real happy guy.
2/4/07 - Well King is here with me and he's doing great. We came home about an hour ago. He is
an all white boy with brindle around both his eyes. I'll get some pics as soon as possible. He has
not been neutered and needs to gain some weight but looks good.
The paperwork I got says his birthdate is August of 2005 which makes him 18 months old. It also
stated he had his 1yr rabies vac. in Feb '06 so he will be due for his 3yr now.
I brought him right to the bathroom zone in the yard and he peed right away. We came in and had
some one on one time and he was very friendly, wiggles and kisses. I gave him some lunch and sat
on the floor while he ate. The bowl started getting away so I held it for him and no anxiety or
aggression their either. He ate a good lunch then hung out in the living room with my husband and I,
just layed himself down and let me rub his belly, another real good sign. I think he will do fine.
He's crated while I write, went in ok but wanted to see my dogs in their crates. My boy is a bit
disturbed with him here and is being bossy through his crate so I will keep them seperated for a
couple days and see how that goes. King rode with another female and they got along great. My
female is in her crate and seems to be submissive to the noise. I don't think he'll have a problem
getting along, will keep an eye on that.
