UPDATE 3/27/09 - Josie is just amazing. We could have never imagined getting such a fantastic
boxer! Dispite her funny appearance, she is the best little kid around. She has adjusted so well to our
lifestyle. She goes to work with me every day and gets to play with all her doggie friends at the
daycare. She also is used a lot for our dog-dog introductions. She is very well socialized and reads
dog behavior incredibly well.
As far as training goes Josie has now Passed her TDI test and with a vet check up, she will be able to
start visiting people at nursing homes and hospitals. She may even start doing a reader dog program
with her lab pal at the public library.
Thanks SCBR and dot for all that you did to get josie to us!
UPDATE 5/30/08 - Josie is still fantastic! After 1 year she is still the love of our life! She now has 2
cat sisters, and 2 brother dogs. She doesnt really pay much attention to her sisters but the other day I
caughter her play-bowing at one of my cats. The cat just looked at her and hissed. Apparently my cat
isnt a good player! She has a 11 year old brother and 1 year old brother. She loves her brothers and
they are my little fur trio!
Josie recently took TDI (Therapy Dog International) training prep classes at her daycare that I work
at. She took her TDI and CGC (Canine Good Citizen) test this past march. She passed 11 out of 13
things but only 100% is a pass in the TDI/CGC book. The funniest thing is she failed on the food part.
Which she is the PICKIEST eater ever!I guess the toasted bagel with cream cheese was just to much
for her though! And she failed on meeting a dog. She decided that the little goldens vest was quiet
attractive and wanted to get a closer look! (She didnt realize she was suposed to sit next to me and not
greet the dog!) I felt like she was a top dog anyways! To come from being left 1 year ago to doing
CGC and TDI work I am quite pleased!
My family sometimes asks why anyone would give up such a good dog like Josie. I know dot had said
they didnt want to give her up but there was some hardships.
To her old family if they read this. We love her dearly, and I couldnt imagine not having her in my
families life! You did an amazing job with her for the first 4 years of her life!
UPDATE 8/7/07 - Josie continues to do great. She has finally decided that the water in her kiddy
pool is ok for her to go in. At first she thought it was scary and that that it might hurt her. Now she
jumps in with all the dogs at daycare and digs around. She has been on 3 hikes with us and LOVES it.
We couldnt ask for a better dog!
UPDATE 6/23/07 - Josie is amazing! She loves to go to daycare with her brother dog and play with
other dogs. She also loves to go to work with mommy and stay in the clinic kennel and bark with all
the other technition dogs. We really couldnt have asked for a better dog. She is a great protector and
will bark if she feels like someone is an intruder. However once they are inside she warms right up to
them and thinks that she should become their lap dog. She loves to cuddle during "tv time" and will
even fall asleep on our laps during movies.
Training is another story. Being a previous SCBR dog she has already been through basic obedience.
She does what she is asked but even the trainer has noticed that Josie sometimes gets bored with the
lessons. So we have decided to pick it up a notch. We are going do some agility and Rally-o with her
next lesson!
My fiancee and I have become extremely attatched to her in just the last month of having her. We
could not have chose a better dog to become part of our family. Thanks for all that you do SCBR!
UPDATE 5/30/07 - Josie is adjusting amazingly well with us in our home and with our pets. Josie and
our dog buddy love to play in our back yard and sleep on the couch with us.
Recently we took josie with us on a hike up chick hill in clifton. we spent the afternoon going up and
she loved it, infact I think she was in better shape for it than any of us, but you could really tell that she
was enjoying herself.
Josie has had her frontline and heartguard since coming here and are going to get her a check up
tomorrow, but is doing very well.
We are starting obediance training with Josie and our dog buddy on June 7th. It should be very fun and
a good bonding experience for us with her.
The funniest thing that josie has done since having her is she tends to like to sleep on the bed with us at
night! Which we Love! She is a big cuddle bug! Funny part is though that everynight we wake up to
find that our legs have fallen asleep because she sprawls across our legs! Needless to say it has been
an interesting way to wake up in the morning!
All in all we love her very much! We couldn't have asked for a better dog! She is definately a daddy's
girl and I can't get enough of her! Dot was right, she is a "bomb proof" dog and I would never part
with her!
5/26/07 - Josie has been adopted!
5/17/07 - Josie continues to be a wonderful guest here at the Log Cabin. She has shown a definite
interest in keeping the squirrels away form under the bird feeders! She will go into another room when
the vacuum is being used. She just quietly leaves. Very polite! She also has a fondness for car rides
and is very well behaved in the car. She sits quietly, but is alert to everything going on around her.
There is a lot of Boxer in her: she does the "lean", and needs to be fairly near her human family, if not in
actual contact. Typical boxer behavior!
5/9/07 - We now have the information from the vet that used to care for Josie. She needed to be
checked for HW and is negative "across the board", which means no Lyme disease either. She weighs
in at 47 lbs. and has an Avid microchip. I had it read while I was there. I might add, that Josie doesn't
jump on people!
5/5/07 - Hi Everybody, this is Josie. Foster Mom said I could use the computer. I really like it here,
but I need a forever home of my own so that another dog can come into rescue. I am really very good:
I go outside to do my "business", I don't counter-surf, I have had obedience training in the past so do
walk well on leash, I sit on command, I love to ride and just plain hang out with you. This week after
foster-mom brushed me she gave me a pedicure. I stood very still and didn't argue even a little bit. She
said I was a very good girl. I do love to play with other dogs and I enjoy the out-of-doors. Please
don't think badly of me because we don't know who my dad was, but mom was all boxer, so I am half
boxer. This computer stuff is a lot of work, so now I need to go and play for a bit. Your friend, Josie.
4/30/07 - Josie is changing every day!! She is no longer the shy and hesitant dog that first came here a
couple of weeks ago. She still doesn't play with toys, but is really getting into the treat and "tasty meal
program", is becoming a door greeter, and is pretty enthusiastic about being just a "dog"! She is also a
good watch-dog. She is ready at all times to clean out a dish from the table if offered, and will now
accept a treat when offered. She didn't seem to know what a "treat" was! She now knows Iams dog
biscuits, Lamb jerky and Yummie Chummie treats. Josie is also very gentle accepting those treats (no
finger counting afterward)-[Rose please take notice], and she does not jump on people!
4/26/07 - Josie is quite the adaptable girl. She is very calm, polite, and laid-back. She is also ready to
play whenever the other dogs are ready. She and Rose have been having a "gang-up time" on Sam and
they
nibble on him and give him "flea bites". He loves to play with them. Josie is getting much more relaxed
and comfortable. She hangs out with me at the computer, or claims a lap on occasion in front of the tv.
She
is no longer so shy and hesitant as she was when she first got here. But, she isn't pushy either. She
watches the cats, and sometimes will follow one around. She is a bit leery, as she knows that they do
have fast feet with hooks! Pepper actually head-butted her and then threatened to swing at her! Josie
loves to ride, go for walks, and just be a buddy to someone. She is half boxer, but that half includes
not only the brindle markings,
but the "boxer lean". She is so good when she gets groomed. She stood absolutely still while I brushed
her and stripped her. She is getting pretty shiny now that the under coat is coming away. She even
waited on the low table while I retrieved a brush that Rose stole!
This girl is ready for a forever home. It could be your home!
4/21/07 - Josie is now eating a bit better, but it took a few days with a couple of steps backward. But
now she is eating. She doesn't take any sass from anyone, but is also totally non-aggressive. She will
curl her lip if Sam or Rose get too pushy. We put her on a low table outside today for brushing. She
loved it and stood for her brushing. When we paused to clean the brush, she just stood waiting
patiently! She loves to be groomed! She has stopped shedding so much. I think it was mostly stress.
She appears to walk around with a smile most of the time and is very easy going. She shares all toys
and will give up a toy rather than scrap. This is one very nice, sweet and obedient dog. I think her
former owner was correct, she is very nearly the perfect dog!! Get you applications in quickly!!
4/16/07 - Josie finally ate a full meal, not just a few mouthfuls like this morning. I knew that she would
eventually eat, but it just bothered me that she refused! She is such a good girl and was so well
behaved last night when we all went up to bed. Quiet all night.
We are still without power, other than the generator. I cannot send any pictures as they are on the
desktop computer. When we get power back I will send the pics of Josie. I also need to take a couple
more.
This is one very nice dog!
4/16/07 - Josie finally decided to eat a little bit this morning! She has been here since Saturday noon,
and has refused to eat (not even a treat), until this morning. She only ate a little, but she did eat. This is
a start! Last night she slept upstairs in the bedroom with the whole gang and slept the whole night
through without waking me. Saturday night I was up twice with her.
She is the "perfect dog" as far as I can tell. Non-aggressive, friendly, eager to please, clean, obedient,
well trained, you name it, she is great!! She did pull on the leash a bit, but I think she was just anxious,
and after a couple of corrections, she was very good.
If I can maintain my internet connection, I may be able to send a few pictures of this lovely brindle girl.
I wish I knew about her paternal ancestor, but all I can figure is he probably had a tendency to keep
his tail curled over his back, because her tail is usually in a very near-perfect "O" over her back!!
4/15/07 - It seems so strange to have a dog in the house WITH a LONG TAIL! She keeps it curled
up over her back most of the time.
She is brindle, but the gray-ishness that I detect may just be her undercoat, coming out. Her fur is a bit
longer than a boxer should have. She is shedding quite a bit, but brushing will help a lot.
She basically has a boxer head, at least as far as the stop. From there on the nose is not regulation: a
bit longer and narrower! Looking at her straight on, she appears to have the same forward eyes that a
boxer has. Other breeds often have their eyes separated by the nose and skull. She does not!
She still has not eaten! Eventually, she will get hungry and eat, but until then, she starves!! This is all
stress related I suspect. Lots of changes in her life and not to her liking.
4/14/07 - Josie arrived here shortly before noon today and I crated her as soon as she had a chance to
pee. She has been crated most of the afternoon except for a couple of yard calls. Tonight, after
everyone had supper we did the intros and everyone is doing fine. I will be vigilant for a few days, but I
don't really expect any trouble. That is not a true statement: Josie did not eat anything. Her next
opportunity will be breakfast. I don't know what her feed schedule was and she just might not have
been hungry. She does seem to be a bit "lost", but I expect that to dissipate in a day or two. She is a
lovely girl.
I don't even know if this is the right spelling. She is a very nice girl with a bit longer hair than a boxer.
She is shedding quite a bit, bu I suspect it may be due to stress. I had her outside and brushed her
pretty good and will do so again later or tomorrow. Right now she is crated, but has met my crew
through the gates and crate. We will be working on more meeting and getting acquainted later after
supper.
My mind is totally blank as to what Leann told me about this girl: good with kids, cats and dogs. I
don't remember much else. Not even her age-she appears to be about 4 years old. She also has a long
nose and tail.
Hopefully I will get a couple of pictures taken later today and maybe even have more info.
4/13/07 - Josie is 4. Lived with cats, another dog and a 2 yr old. Cratetrained and housebroken. Been
through obedience. Good with everything. The family said actually she was the perfect dog. Dad was
very sad to let her go. Adopted from SCBR as a puppy. Mom was a pure boxer, I believe Jill fostered
her
