UPDATE 12/28/07 - Joey is really doing great adjusting to his new forever home.He settled in with me right from
the start. There is no doubt that he really knows that I'm his new daddy. He loves sleeping on my bed,and yes,he
can be a bed hog.He will sleep as long as I stay in bed, without wanting to get up and play.He had a couple small
episodes with the other dog in the house. I think because of his history being moved around a lot,he has
insecurities, and needs to be constantly reassured that he has a permanent home, and is loved. I am in the
process of enrolling him in an obedience class, and plan to address how to cope with any jealousey issues. I love
Joey so much, and really that area is his only issue.I also noticed he was a little nervous when we had a family
gathering here on xmas.My house is normally very quiet though,so it's not an everyday event.Joey loves to ride in
the car,no matter how short or long the trip!He sits right up in the seat beside me until he gets sleepy, and then
curls !
up on the seat.Joey is very healthy, and loves to eat!I feed him lamb and rice,by Nutro.I add some chunk light tuna
in water, which my vet said was good protein for him,and he absolutely loves it!Just a spoonful to make his food
more tasty for him.Yes,I like to spoil him.I am starting obedience training at Pet Quarters in January and will update
you on that next month. He loves his toys and is playing with his "waggle" right now. It's a dumbell shaped toy with a
spot to put treats in the end.He also loves watching out our patio doors, and windows(guarding the house).
Ocasionally letting out that funny howl that he can make, alerting us to something outside.I guess that does it for
this month, other that I can't say enough how much Joey has made me happy. My whole outlook on my life has been
uplifted.Thank you helping me find such a wonderful loving dog such as Joey.
11/18/07 - Joey has been adopted!
11/9/07 - Joey is doing great! He has settled right in and has stopped being as worried about all the changes. He
is great in his crate when I am not home and will go in when asked. He loves to nap next to me on the couch when
it's movie time. He will sneak up when my girl, Sandi, is not looking (she likes to THINK she owns all the couch
space with Mommy!). Joey is a super nice boy and I know his family misses him and chose to give Joey the best
life possible by surrendering him to rescue to find that right type of home he needs now. Wouldn't it be great for
Joey to be home before Thanksgiving? Hurry and apply so you don't miss out on Joey!
11/5/07 - Joey arrived and is a very sweet boy. He gets along great with my boxer girl, Sandi, and my cat. He is
starting to settle down now and getting use to the routine. He is very funny too. He loves to circle about 10 times
on the dog beds before he finds the "perfect" spot! He did it so many times this morning after his breakfast that I
thought he was going to make himself sick! LOL
The good thing about Joey is his issue is only with the house. He can be walked or be outside with you and meet
other people and be perfectly fine. He also loves his family and did not have issues with them. So he just needs
someone who does not have a lot of visitors coming & going. He will make a wonderful companion to someone
or a family that fits his needs.
11/2/07 - After a year and a half, Joey's family is very sad but they have decided that he needs to find a different type
of a home and he will be coming back to rescue tomorrow. They love him and he loves them, but he can be
unpredictable with non-family coming & going in his home. Sometimes he is fine with some people and some of
the kids' friends, other times the same people/kids are not welcomed by Joey into their home. Since their kids are
getting older and their house is getting busier with a lot more people coming and going, they feel that Joey is not
able to relax and be happy. I will update more on Joey in the next few days & get some updated pictures too. He
sounds like a great boy that is very sweet, but needs a more quiet type of a home.
UPDATE 5/8/07 - THIS IS THE TWELVE MONTH UP-DATE ON JOEY. JOEY IS DOING GREAT. HE JUST WENT TO
THE VET'S FOR HIS ANNUAL EXAM. ALL IS WELL. THE DOCTOR IS VERY IMPRESSED WITH HIS WEIGHT FOR
HIS BODY SIZE, "VERY HEALTHY BOY". JOEY GOES TO "DOGGY DAYCARE" ONCE A WEEK TO KEEP UP HIS
SOCIAL SKILLS. HE IS GREAT WITH OTHER DOGS. JOEY DOES WELL WHILE WE ARE AWAY AT WORK. HE
HAS FREE ROAM OF SOME OF THE HOUSE. HE DOESN'T COUNTER SURF BUT WE STILL NEED TO KEEP
THINGS PUT AWAY. HE HAS PLENTY OF TOYS TO KEEP HIMSELF BUSY. (SPOILED DOG!!) WE CALL HIS
TOYS SQUEAKERS AND HE KNOWS THE WORD. JOEY DOESN'T BARK MUCH AND IS QUIET OUTSIDE AS
WELL. HE GOES OUT IN THE MORNING WHILE I GET READY FOR WORK AND HE WILL JUST SIT AT THE
DOOR WAITING TO COME IN. HE IS NOT A KISSER BUT WILL PUT HIS MUZZLE UP TO YOUR FACE AND JUST
SNIFF. HE HELPS ME WAKE THE KIDS UP BY DOING THIS. MY DAUGHTER GOT UPSET BECAUSE I WOKE
HER UP WITHOUT JOEY. "NO MOM, I WANT JOEY TO DO IT" LAUGH, LAUGH. WE ARE VERY PLEASED THAT
WE
MADE THE DECISION TO ADOPT AND ARE LUCKY TO HAVE GOTTEN JOEY. HE IS A WONDERFUL ADDITION
TO OUR FAMILY. WE LOVE HIM LOTS AND HE GOES WITH US EVERYWHERE WE CAN TAKE HIM. THANKS
AGAIN TO THE ORGANIZATION FOR ALL THAT IS DONE FOR THESE DOGS.
UPDATE 11/20/06 - Hello - This is a six month update for Joey. He continues to do so well. Around four months
Joey started sitting on our laps instead of the far end of the couch and sleeping for a good portion of the night on
our bed. He is going to doggy daycare a couple of days a week and he does well there. He really is a great dog
overall. As we have said before this is our first dog and we are very lucky to have gotten Joey. We love him so. He
makes us laugh every day. Especially in the evening when he sleeps upside down and snores!!!
We again thank everyone at SCBR for all of the hard work that is done to help all of the needy dogs out there!!
UPDATE 8/14/06 - HELLO - THIS IS A THREE MONTH UPDATE ON JOEY. HE CONTINUES TO DO SO WELL. WE
HAVE BEEN TO OBEDIENCE TRAINING FOR THE LAST THREE WEEKS. WE ARE TAKING A BASIC MANNERS
CLASS (SIT, DOWN, STAY ETC.) SO FAR SO GOOD. SINCE WE HAVE ADOPTED JOEY WE HAVE BEEN
ACTIVELY FINDING SOME GREAT HIKING SPOTS IN OUR AREA. HE JUST LOVES TO BE OUT AND ABOUT. HE
HAS ALSO BEEN GOING TO DOGGY DAYCARE A COUPLE OF DAYS A WEEK TO KEEP UP HIS SOCIAL SKILLS
WITH OTHER DOGS. HE JUST HAD HIS FIRST OVERNIGHT AT THE KENNEL AND DID JUST FINE. OUR
FENCING IS COMPLETE AND IT IS NICE TO HAVE JOEY OFF LEASH AND SEE HOW HE CAN RUN. HE GOES IN
CIRCLES AROUND US AS WE TRY TO GET HIS TOY FROM HIM!!! HE HAS HAD A FEW BATHS AND LOVES THE
MASSAGE TIME WITH THE SOAP BUT DISLIKES THE "RINSE CYCLE". WE ARE A LUCKY FAMILY TO HAVE
ADOPTED SUCH A WONDERFUL DOG. JUST LAST NIGHT WE GOT A CHUCKLE FROM HIM AS HE SLEPT ON
THE COUCH... HIS TONGUE STICKING OUT, EYES ROLLED BACK INTO HIS HEAD AND SNORING. WE LOVE
THIS GUY SO. THANKS TO ALL AGAIN.
UPDATE 6/26/06 - Hello to all: This is our first months update regarding Joey who we adopted in May. He has
been with us for five weeks or so and is adjusting just fine. We had a great ride back to Vermont from New Jersey.
Joey rode well in the crate in the back of the minivan. He took a liking to my children and husband right away when
we got home. He did have two accidents the first day but since then has had none. We kept Joey in the crate for
the first couple of nights but he has been out since. He has claimed an old stuffed chair that we had planned on
throwing out as his bed at night. He is kept in the crate during our work day with a break at lunch time. I love
going home to him. His crate faces the door so he can see who is coming. He always has his squeaker in his
mouth. (yes Liz the same squeaker you sent home with him !!) I open up the crate and his back end just can’t
wiggle enough. If he bent in half any more he would break. My kids like to call him Mr. Wiggles at this time!!! It is
just a joy to come home from work with this greeting. We did test him outside of the crate during the day for a
couple of hours while we went out for dinner. Well, Joey had a blast with the kitchen trash can !!!! It was funny to
catch him in the midst of it all. He just gave us the “I did’nt do it look. If he could speak I think the cat
would have been blamed. We go for many walks throughout the day but Joey likes to call them squirrel hunts. I
am going to try the gentle lead harness on him because when a squirrel is spotted he goes!! Other dogs along
the walk don’t bother him at all. We meet so many dogs along the way that bark like crazy at us. It is nice to
have a dog that could care less. We have had him off leash at times without any problems. He just wants to be
with us at all times. Everyone who meets him is just amazed at how quite he is. He doesn’t bark when
people come to the door and he doesn’t jump either. Last night he fell asleep next to me on the couch upside
down, his tongue sticking out and snoring!!!!! Funny, funny, funny !!! He really is just such a wonderful dog that
we have grown to love sooooooo much. This dog has definitely found his forever home. Thank you to all
involved in the adoption process, especially to Liz for caring for him till we could take him home. we are starting
obedience training on July 11th.
5/20/06 - Joey has been adopted!
5/12/06 - Yesterday was a big day in our house. The twins turned 7 years old. We went out to dinner, had cake and
then played ball in the yard. ( this is the new obsession in my house .lol lol ) sooooooo, I was outside w/ the twins
and the 11 year old. The 11 year old and I throw the hard ball to each other and the twins and I use a tennis ball.
Well, as you can imagine the twins and throwing is not that accurate and I had 3 balls coming toward me at one
time. JOEY, JOSEPH, JO JO, GUSSEPPI and YOSEF.....LOL LOL......... (He answers to all of the above........lol) had
a ball (excuse the pun)! Any ball that went off course or I missed he retrieved. We just kept saying "ooops, bad
throw-Joe's ball!", "ooopsss bad catch- Joe's ball!". He WOULD SWOOP DOWN PICK IT UP AND JUST RUN W/
IT:) He waited his turns patiently. He created a game for himself of retrieving all the balls... he was fantastic. He
even gives them up when asked.too :)) He is the most wonderful family dog. He is sound and has a dynamic
personality!
4/28/06 - Joey was neutered and has returned to his foster home. He was very happy to see his foster family and
especially this kids.... he ran right upstairs and got in bed with my 7 year old.lol lol He adores the children. As I
type this update he is outside playing w/ Sadie my other foster girl......I cannot say enough about this special boy.
He is the all around solid Boxer character! He was not even interested in the cat......... he just wants to be with us.
and to be hugged. Leash trained, does not jump, house trained.......... He will not be around long....
4/23/06 - Joey is such a goof ball.. All he does is bend his body in half wiggling and smiling! He had a bath and
was prancing after wards. He clearly felt much better. He loves the fluffy toys and tennis balls........ loves to fetch
and is very proud to return the ball.lol lol He slept well in the crate last night. He did have accidents but too early to
tell if he is house trained or not.... he needs some time to settle in and get on a schedule. He seems fine with my
dogs so far & we will know more about kids and cats soon.
4/22/06 - SCBR agreed to take Joey in immediately from a southern shelter when another rescue who committed
to him did not show up for him. He had been living in a shelter for almost 2 months. He is a very handsome
calm, easy going guy. He just finished eating and is resting in his carte. ( he has been in transport for 2 days)
we're going to let him settle in for the night and will give him a desperately needed bath in the morning. Updates
to come as we get to know this handsome boy. He will be neutered on Tuesday and available for adoption shortly.
